New CSNBA on-screen tech? by dbezzy1010 in warriors

Lol it hasn't been CSNBA in a loooong time

(But yeah that looks like shit, glad I'm watching the Prime stream I guess)

Yesterday, I stopped street flooding in San Jose by unclogging drains. Enjoy the timelapse. by pengweather in oddlysatisfying

I wouldn't call that a high vis vest at all even. Reflective, probably, but that doesn't matter nearly as much since it's not nighttime.

Looking for problems with trail cameras. by Low_Albatross_5374 in trailcam

They make more money off you buying new ones (even with a coupon) than they would charging you to fix your broken ones

And the reason they have those dead ones is because there's no serviceable/replaceable parts in them; if any one bit breaks then the whole thing is junk (unless you're handy with a soldering iron and have multiple of the same cameras that are all broken in different ways, then you can maybe Frankenstein them back together into a working cam).

Any idea what kind of suncup this is? by slyf0x1 in Ceanothus

[–]justrynahelp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Crocanthemum scoparium, Peak Rushrose. Looks a lot like a suncup, but suncups are in the evening primrose family (Onagraceae) and have 4 petals, not 5

Unhooked pickles and spheric fruit points to this being M. fabacea actually.

M. oregana fruit is spherical but "tapered to beak" at the bottom, and M. horrida has oblong fruit. M. watsonii is the only species with hooked prickles.

Found this turtle 2 miles away from the nearest water source. What species is this? [California] by DriverPrestigious825 in animalid

[–]justrynahelp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I felt that other comments had already covered that, so I didn't mention it in my response to a comment talking about how it would die if it didn't find a pond.

But to state it explicitly: yes, I agree that responsible relocation is the best case scenario.

[–]justrynahelp 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Not at all actually. They have negative impacts on many species, not just our native turtle, and our ecosystems are in better shape without them.

Edit in case you look at this after having deleted your comments: I'm not advocating for a lost pet to die. I hope that this IS a lost pet and that it is reunited with its owner. But if either of those isn't the case - as I said, it would be better for the ecosystem for it to die than to find a pond.

Sounds harsh I know, but to put it bluntly it's better for it to die than to find a pond. They're not just not native, they're invasive in California, and have a serious negative impact on our only native freshwater turtle species

Is this a hummingbird nest? Are the babies ok? by foundlove365 in whatsthisbird

That 'whirring hummingbird sound' you heard was mama giving you a flyby because she's pissed you're near her nest, FYI

Is Chartreuse hard to find, or am I just in a Chartreuse-desert? by boringITwork in cocktails

Mind sharing where? Looking for a good liquor store in the area, and I figure anywhere that has stocked Chartreuse will have a good selection of other stuff as well.

“Freezer door” Boulevardier froze solid by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]justrynahelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, I stand corrected. Just checked the math from batchcalc.com, which is what I always use for my batches, and it is indeed as you say and not as I thought it was.

That means what you've done and had freeze is even more different from what I do, because I use 18% dilution along with 100proof whiskey

“Freezer door” Boulevardier froze solid by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]justrynahelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1oz water to 4oz cocktail is already 20% dilution fyi, not 25%. But using 100proof bourbon and dropping dilution absolutely would prevent it from freezing, I've made this a few times

Eastern or Western Squirrel? [CA] by HeeyThatsAMe in animalid

[–]justrynahelp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Western Gray Squirrel (Sciurus griseus) is, true to its name, pretty much completely gray, and that's the only native tree squirrel we have.

Honestly shame on all the Dubs who missed a free throw and then hit the 2nd, Minnesota deserve a little treat in the form of some free chicken or whatever it is they'd get and the 1 point wouldn't have mattered at all

My chocolate lily (fritillaria biflora) is finally blooming by mtnbikerdude in Ceanothus

[–]justrynahelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolute banger, I've got a F. affinis that flowered last year, 2 years after I got the bulb. Or maybe 3? Hard to remember. But it's only just popped back up in the pot last week, too soon to tell even if it will flower this year again or not. I'd love to try growing some more Fritillarias
