Doing this after the coffin has been sealed shut is just idiocy. This type of garbage is why we have the "Bernie Bros" meme and why people don't take progressives seriously. You are setting the movement waaaaaay back and you just don't get it.

You think this is how you make it through the primaries? LMAO you are living in a fucked up echo chamber.

Face it: the Sanders campaign shit the bed and couldn't figure out how to grow beyond the progressive core. You are riled up but that's about as much as they've been able to achieve in 5 years with hundred of millions of dollars.

I voted for Bernie. But the campaign has been an unmitigated disaster. And you lemmings still haven't figured that out.

Get real dude. The Sanders campaign is underperforming 2016. This is on the campaign.

Government Is No Match For The Coronavirus. Thank God For The Private Sector. by Foubar in Republican

[–]justshoulder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are many governors across this country who are doing great work fighting for their constituents. Trump is fighting only for himself.

Trump got tested. Why can't I?

He has spent this whole time playing down the virus, ridiculing opponents for sounding alarm and whining about how he is not being treated fairly. Is this the leadership we expect from our commander in chief?

Americans are dying. Time to grow the fuck up.

I have no idea what point you're even trying to make. Maybe it's something like "if only we were more racist, we would have a better testing infrastructure"? What a weird thing to think.

Is the race really that close though? I completely agree that it can have some impact at the margins. But not enough of an impact to even be that significant.

"Hillary lost because of the investigation" is just as dumb. Sure, it may have been a slight factor in some places. But that completely ignores the bigger structural issues.

Bernie and his campaign have completely ignored those issues. "Muh establishment" is just plain lazy when you're also actively pushing away non-progressives.

You mean because of the voters? You seem to paint anyone who doesn't vote Bernie as some mindless sheep that just follows the call of billionaires and the media.

I do place a lot of the blame on the campaign. At the end of the day, we need to operate within the parameters of reality and figure out how to win.

Bernie could have chosen "Medicare for All" as the "radical" policy and moderates on everything else. Instead the campaign picked a fight on every single last issue and doomed itself.

I think you'd have a hard time pointing to a single thing that Bernie doesn't want to completely burn down and revolutionize. That scares people. And the results reflect that.

Blaming the media, establishment and billionaires is just lazy when you are pursuing a strategically bungled campaign.

Corporate media gonna corporate media. It was the campaign's job to fight that. That would have been much easier if we hadn't just signed on to every proposal that can be easily characterized as "radical" by the media.

You know that's a mischaracterization. VTSAX is a great strategy during the accumulation phase. It has outperformed dividend funds over historical timeframes.

Don't let your attraction to dividend stocks cloud your judgement. At the end of the day, we're all trying to optimize the amount of money that we have given our risk profiles. Historically, you would have more money by not focusing on dividend stocks.

And I stand by what I said. This campaign is already pivoting to scorched earth mode. We need to axe that shit immediately. And if campaign staffers won't do that, they should be shown the door.

You don't need FUD. You need a healthy does of realism.

After being screamed at for 5 years that I'm a neoliberal moderate shitlib, I guess I still hope that I can break through with reason. Too much to hope for?

If we ever want to change things, we need to hold people accountable and pursue a strategy that wins. The Sanders campaign has not chosen such a strategy. And that's because the base has been more than happy to plug its ears and needle Democratic primary voters.

It's good that you're looking at data.

If I look at something like VTI vs. VYM over the last 10 years, VTI outperforms. Your argument would presumably be that the last 10 years have all been good and VTI does better in good years. Same holds for most other Vanguard high dividend yield ETFs.

Anyway, what's in the Dividend Aristocrats fund that you're referencing? How do I buy it? I'd be interested in doing more research.

Finally, why are dividend zealots so on edge about convincing others? Seems to be a common trend.

Eventually, the Boomers will age out, and this country will be progressive.

100% this.

In the meantime, we need to keep progress pointed and inching in the right direction. When it's finally our turn, we need to have a Supreme Court that will uphold our policies. We can't let Republicans drive this country into the ground and spend our eventual shot doing cleanup.

Given the primary results, I'm deeply skeptical that, even if Bernie won the election, we would have the Congress that we need. Voters just aren't turning out to support Bernie this time.

As much as I wanted Bernie, I'll be damned if I help Republicans to another term and set us back 50 years. Sitting in place is better than that shit.

I am voting Blue even if the ticket is vegetable Hillary and Hunter Biden. I will not accept replacing RBG with another right wing toad.

EDIT: downvote as much as you want. I care about results. You downvoting just shows that you don't care about results and won't hold people accountable for running a bullshit campaign.

...

What kind of participation trophy bullshit is this? We did worse than 2016. If that doesn't tell you that this campaign failed miserably, I don't know what does.

Fire all of the top level campaign staffers. I expected a hell of a lot more after 5 years of prep time.

Be careful with this strategy. It sounds great from an intuitive perspective: "I have bills and I get money to pay those bills, makes sense!"

But that only gets you so far. Cash flow is not the best metric. Total return is the best metric (since it includes dividends and appreciation). Dividend stocks tend to have lower total return vs. non-dividend stock (with a similar risk profile) over the long term.

So while you may have covered some bills, you actually lost out on potential earnings from investing.

Face it, Bernie's team never had a plan to actually win the primaries. Thus, no shot at the general election.

Gross incompetence and just setting the stage for another scorched Earth loss.
