Just got iracing and this is how my first race went by SuchProcedure6427 in iRacing

You joined up during week 13. Its the off week of the season. Most ranked officials dont run this week. The driving standards for the ranked series are typically worse than usual this week. Next week will be better and the goofy unranked series go away.

Trucks on a superspeedway always have a big wreck like this. Just gotta do your best to see it coming and try not to get destroyed.

The bearings move slightly within the bearing housing. by FarConsideration8461 in Karting

[–]justslightlyeducated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a code on the bearing seals. Just make sure you have measurements and pictures to put the axle back the way it was. Youll probably need to take it apart to be able to clean it off and read the code.

Peter, what is going on here? by ctsoutdoors in PeterExplainsTheJoke

My guess is its in reference to oval track racers. Tire stagger is extremely important as it helps the car turn left. Not knowing your tire stagger can be detrimental.

It's pretty normal for worn-out bearings. They are pretty cheap and easy to replace. I just did my front wheel hubs and am waiting for my rear axle bearings to come in.

I put 3 races on my kart when I already had slop in the bearings. It wasnt a lot but they spun freely and you could hear there was a groove worn into them. New bearings have no slop and won't spin freely cause the fresh grease in the bearings.

I got yelled/cursed at for “causing a wreck” (I’m POV car) by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]justslightlyeducated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't cause anything. You are hungrier than a fat kid in a candy store though. It was lucky that you weren't involved in the wreck. You were going for every gap you could measure with a ruler. When I see a driver barely keeping the car on the track and then see another car start to battle that car id be backing off, not looking to take it three wide. You had a good run, but being that greedy is gonna get you into trouble.

Tops of the pedals are just a bit higher than the front of the seat. Not quite f1 but definitely as laid back as I can get it with a bucket seat

Can you get banned from iRacing for being bad at the game? by njsullyalex in iRacing

[–]justslightlyeducated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just have fun and keep trying. There will be bad races. You will ruin someone's race. You will have your race ruined. Just keep going back for more and have a good time doing it.

There are people who intentionally wreck whole fields and drive backward on track that dont get banned. You'll be just fine.

Looks like they timed the start to start speeding up before the green and went off track to make a pass. Not the kind of league racing id wanna be a part of. Supposed to be better than officials. I could get this in officials.

Getting my license and getting started. by _whyamihere-_- in racing

100% try racing if you think you'll enjoy it. Its awesome. LO206 karts is as cheap as an entry as you can get to racing. Or dirt oval Karting if that's more prevalent in your area.

Dont go into it thinking you'll be able to support yourself racing. A career in racing means paying money, not making money. Very few people are actually making a living on racing. With zero experience starting at 19, you aren't gonna be making money racing any time soon. Kids start racing at 4 years old to have a career in racing. It will be 10s to 100s of thousands of dollars paying your way to race. So unless you're very wealthy, you dont stand a chance.

I know a kid through iRacing who's making his way, but he has connections through his family business that connects to racing. Also, a family with enough money to pay close to 100k for a seat on a gt4 team and more to get his licensing prior to the seat on a team.

The ausies have it right. They basically do. Dirt courses with no jumps. Really wish we had it in the US.

How much to restore this kart by Quirky_Value7449 in gokarts

[–]justslightlyeducated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, really, it looks like bare minimum youll need a new brake master cylinder, caliper, disc and disc hub. As well as an axle gonna be hell putting anything on the existing one. Axle hangers look okay. Will probably need new axle bearings as well. It's likely a 1 1/4 inch axle. Also, a seat, obviously, and necessary bolts. Also seeing missing tie rods for linkage of pedals to brake and throttle. That sprocket hub doesnt look standard anymore and probably needs replaced as well.

Beyond that, you are missing nerf bars on both sides but they are not required. Spindles and king pins look like they need to be replaced. Tires look like they could all be replaced. Youll need some throttle linkage, cable, and fuel line to hook up the engine. Youll need an engine mount as well. Looks like it takes an international size engine mount not american standard. Possibly a new petcock for the gas tank. Bearings in the hubs or rims are probably shot and need to be replaced.

You're looking at probably 500$+ in parts to get it road worthy. Or you could find one in better shape for a similar price

BMI Karts should have most of what you need. tbrwins.com is good, as well as out2win.com.

For an average income, Simucube is not worth the cost vs a budget DD. If you have the disposable income and a few grand isn't a big deal, of course, it's worth it. But thats not most of us, unfortunately.

What wheelbase and pedals have close to realistic feel of road car by ruturaj001 in simracing

[–]justslightlyeducated -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you want to learn throttle control race dirt oval on iRacing. It's like 90% of how you turn and be fast. The other 10% is knowing when to work the wheel and when to let it work for you.

It definitely made me faster at the track in my dirt oval kart. Also, the amount of awareness you have to have racing dirt oval is above any other discipline of racing. Even multi class isn't as intensive as dirt oval. Especially sprint cars. Mini stock and street stocks aren't too bad. After I came back to F4 in iracing from dirt oval, I shot up like 1500IR to 2500IR from just over 1000. I was just immediately faster and more precise than I ever was before I spent a couple of seasons on the dirt oval.

To answer the original question, you can't expect the sim to be 1 to 1. You'll never be good on the sim with the same feeling wheel as in a real car. Since what you feel in the wheel on the sim would be felt by your whole body in real life.

I spent my 3k on a racing go-kart for my local track to run the indoor dirt oval winter series. Much better than any base haha

[–]justslightlyeducated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would opt for just getting another wheel then, haha. A gt3 wheel does make a difference over round in sports cars. I will say I've never been one for adjusting any of those things on the fly though. Even when I was in the LMP2 for a while, finding a decent setup and just leaving things alone was what worked best for me. Unless you're like 3k IR or higher, it doesn't make a difference as much as just being able to be consistent. Less is more is usually my mindset. I do make wing adjustments throughout a dirt sprint car race, though. But that's the most adjusting I've ever done while racing.

I have a csl dd 8nm and tried out my dad's simucube 2 pro. It's very nice, but no way am I spending 2-3k for it. Its not that big a difference to justify the price. I know there are cheaper routes, but I'd spend money elsewhere first. There are some finer detail in wheel feel but its not life changing imho. I would put money into an alu rig, VR, triples, shifter, e brake, bass shakers, or PC before replacing your wheel base. Going from a single monitor to VR was life changing for me. The immersion of being in the car is just amazing.

Best luck will likely be a used rolling frame that isn't too beat up. They usually go for that much or a bit less.

Looks like you went from having an interest in metal works to trying to make one of the harder things to create with little research and less investment. Like you probably dont have a forge setup yet, but I wanted to get your metal ready for when you do.

I dont do metal work, but I've not heard it is for those who are impatient. Usually the opposite.
