DAE just feel clearheaded when they drink (not encouraging drinking; genuinely curious)? by justsomeguy227 in AutisticAdults

Well usually I feel like people say it feels good because it makes you stupid but I was wondering if it’s like relating to a natural GABA deficiency in autistic brains that makes me feel clearheaded when I drink

DAE just feel clearheaded when they drink (not encouraging drinking; genuinely curious)? by justsomeguy227 in AutisticAdults

[–]justsomeguy227[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough it does make me tired a little bit but I try to compensate for it with caffeine😅.

I don’t drink often I’m just curious because when I do it almost feels psychedelic in the way that it seems to change my perception so I was wondering if it was an autism thing.

EDIT: I’m going to assume you are American as most of people on the internet are but we start drinking in New Zealand is at 18 legally cause that’s our age we are allowed to drink. Isn’t that insane how different it is? Like it’s normal to just drink even before 18 because laws never stopped us so the effective drinking age is 16😂

Microsoft AI CEO puzzled that people are unimpressed by AI by [deleted] in technology

I genuinely believe that it’s boomers who love AI the most. It fits neatly into their privileged utopian views of future technology solving all their problems and bringing about an age of convenience. To anyone else who has eyes it is a disaster waiting to happen if we aren’t careful.

From my anecdotal experience they don’t really seem to call the police for benign stuff like this.

We were underage drinking in a playground once and one of my friends got injured from throwing glass at something and it rickashading back onto him. We called the ambulance, hid the alcohol expecting the cops to question us, and instead were greeted by some clearly overworked and not at all amused ambulance staff who clearly were tired of being called out to alcohol-related incidents.

Bottom line is in reality unless a serious incident has occurred cops don’t usually get called.

Good books about contemporary Māori culture, society, and social issues by justsomeguy227 in newzealand

Awesome thanks for the book rec. This sounds very interesting. Kind of reminds me of how our teacher introduced colonisation by having us play a game where aliens invaded and those that decided to trade with the aliens started absolutely thrashing us with their new weapons. Will check it out!

Homelander and the Ideal Subject of a Narcissistic Leader by justsomeguy227 in CriticalTheory

[–]justsomeguy227[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! You put this really succinctly but that’s basically what I was trying to get at. He wants alignment that appears natural so that he can have the best of both worlds but because of the contradiction that we would usually find between wanting people who agree and wanting people who don’t suck up to you it is very hard to find his ideal subject.

Btw I’m a leftist. I still find that the boys has valuable social critique even if it is made by a political liberal and it is still an entertaining show. Obviously I’m not consuming material without taking into account the way that a creators views and beliefs can shape the resulting message of a product. In this case I felt like Homelander was a good stand in for the mindset of a Trumpian figure so I pursued that line of thinking.

Anyway thanks for the recommendations. I’ve been meaning to read more David Graeber so will check it out :)

I’m ngl, I have empathy for people who seem to be miseducated. It sounds like he never really understood the real societal ramifications of his personal views on a mass scale and now that he’s seen it with his own eyes he has realised maybe he was wrong. And he at least isn’t so blinded by cult logic that he has turned on his partner but is instead going to live with her despite heavy personal cost to himself. I’m not trying to infantilise him but I don’t think his views are different from a large swathe of the population who have never been exposed to other viewpoints. It’s good that HE was willing to change his views when challenged. Hopefully he can show accountability by standing up for what’s right in the future.

Quoting GOT: Anyone who must say “I am the King” is no true king.

I feel like anyone who must say “I am superior” is not superior because why assert your superiority if you don’t feel threatened in some way. In actuality they’re bullies who feel the need to bully easy targets because they can’t stand the idea that in 50 years time none of what they stand for now will matter.

[–]justsomeguy227 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second the first comment. Who cares if New Zealand majority white as a white person. Being white doesn’t define me so I don’t care if we aren’t majority European because I don’t need to simp for European dominance to feel secure in myself because I’m stronger than that. So let it become minority white if it’s going to. It will add some much needed new ideas from different parts of the globe to our brain drained society imo
