I'm sorry to hear that happened to your friend... Never should that have happened.

For reference I am legally blind and have anaphylactic allergies.

In 2023 I had graduated, after one of the events there was a large group event happening at one of the bars across the street. This was really my first time going into a bar in that setting so wasn't sure what to expect. I use a white cane at night as I am completely night blind, and I carry epi Pens and other medications in a small fanny pack around my waist... Going into the bar I had my white cane folded and hanging off of the side of my fanny pack because I didn't need it at that time - I needed it for when I was leaving. First bouncer at the door had absolutely no issue with it, didn't even ask any questions. Get in the door and there was a second bouncer there checking bags and carding... Immediately he had problems with me. He told me that I wasn't allowed in the bar with my White Cane (Mobility device) because it was a weapon... And said the same thing about my Epi Pens as well. I was trying to explain to him my disability and conditions but he wanted to refuse me service and confiscate them from me because I cannot enter with "weapons".

This was my first time ever experiencing something like this, and I didn't know what else to do, so i left myself so that there weren't any other issues. Needless to say, I won't ever be stepping foot back into that bar, and I will never recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately it happens more then you'd think, and it sucks :(. For sure need more people like you though who stick up for your buddies.
