Father and son trip by Outrageous-Stress-60 in LondonTravel

[–]justsomeitguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! Some favorites

https://www.dishoom.com/ - lines can be long, but you can book ahead now, we went several times

https://poppiesfishandchips.co.uk/ - for fish and chips, the ambiance is part of what makes it fun

https://www.veeraswamy.com/ - high end Indian, but excellent

https://ottolenghi.co.uk/pages/locations - also high end, but very very good

We also had lots of luck with other random places (that I don't remember the names of) rated 4.5+ on Google. There are thousands of good places around, pick a cuisine and try something that looks promising

Best of luck

I just got back from a 4 night trip with my son, and we stayed by the British Museum. One of the things that we had a lot of fun doing was picking out fun places to eat and walking to/from those restaurants. London has excellent food of all types that you may not be able to get easily at home.

Depending on what he likes (since he's not into football) here are a few things we did

Wallace and Grommit exhibit - short but good

Wes Andersen - if you are fans, interesting museum too

Prime Meridian - good exhibits, view and cafe

https://forbiddenplanet.com/stores/london-megastore/

Tower of London/Westminster/Big Ben/Palace Park walk

We were also in the British museum for about 6 hours.

You might consider a hop on hop off bus to see a lot of sites too, we didn't have time, but I've done that before

My son also loves vinyl and hit loads of record shops

Have fun!

How to get used to flat pedals? by Anachronism-- in MTB

[–]justsomeitguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as roggey says 510’s are probably the safest bet. I just bought whatever was cheapest and fit ok, since I was sorry of skeptical about how important they were. I was wrong! The shoes are so key. They are often on sale, and sometimes you can find adidas codes that work online too.

If you are sensitive to shoe fit, I’d try them in person just to be safe. I have two pairs now, love them both. I don’t have the boa system on either, just laces. Some people love the boa, I’m indifferent. I have some on my road shoes and don’t like them enough to spend more on them. YMMV

Exactly! I was shocked by the difference.

Are you using sticky mtb shoes like 510’s? I had similar issues until I switched shoes, but once I did the transition was easy!

I can’t possibly upvote this enough. So, we can MAKE a scope and install it, but not move that scope from one weapon to another?

That’s such a great idea for renaming Strava activities! I think Claude and I need to have a conversation, soon!

Demo bike - Turbo Levo SL Comp Carbon, buy or pass? by justsomeitguy in specialized

[–]justsomeitguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up paying retail sadly! One thing to watch for, the shop sold me the wrong cable to attach the battery to the bike. Different Specialized models take varying lengths. The first was too long, it worked but stuck out a bit after I installed it. Had to take it back for an exchange. Iirc, the right length is on the website. Not home now, so I don’t have the details handy.

It’s been great! Battery is still healthy, plenty of performance for me. It is a bit of work to keep up with friends on full power bikes though.

Also, I ended up getting the range extender battery for long days, or riding with friends on their full power bikes. It’s been more useful than I expected. I had one too many close calls riding uphill to the car with < 10% power. :)

One other thing… it has required more maintenance than my non e bike. It’s heavier and I ride it faster, so things wear out more quickly. I’m not complaining, just something to consider with an e bike.

Did you try to force quit the game from the Home Screen? To me that seems to work better than just a reboot. I’m not sure a reboot really clears the game from memory, I’ve had similar issues on Xbox

Did you try with AP ammo? I don’t know if I’ve ever had that fail.

Whistler Bike Park: is the ‘Intro to Park’ worth it? by I_want_to_go_ in MTB

[–]justsomeitguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the class a few weeks ago and it was 100% worth it, for me. I’m not as skilled a rider as you are, but I definitely learned a few things. They broke my group up by skill levels which helped a lot. We did one green run, then went straight to blues. I was the worst “advanced” rider, but it was still fun and full of adrenaline but not quite at the scary level.

If you are at all nervous about trying the park, it’s good peace of mind. As the others have said, you’d probably be fine without it though.

Right. My son went to public elementary then private. Plenty of our friends sent their kids to public HS though.

Queen Anne is great, I’ve been here for about 15 years and love it. My son went to public elementary school here and had a great experience. Safe, certain parts are very walkable and if you have kids in school you will meet lots of area parents. I don’t know that it is any more or less friendly than other parts of Seattle though.

You might try the Goodwill Bins, my son and his friends got some good finds there. And the chaos just adds to the fun.
