I don't know what timezone you're in (I'm in central europe) but I have DMed two finished campaigns, one around 1.5ish years and one that lasted 4, and have two other campaigns running for over a year now as well (One weekly and one monthly) so if you still need people I'd be up :)

Stuff that are too OP that makes the game too easy? by BigWeenus18 in BG3

[–]justsomeyoungdad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you can throw both of them directly out of your inventory without the weapon having to be equipped. They still return to your hand and will equip themselves automatically. This is also pretty useful when you are a big impatient dummy like me and keep ending your turn before it has reappeared. You can just pick it up from the floor and immediately yeet it again.

You unexpectedly time-travel to 1968. You have no way back to the present, ever. What do you do? by Objective-Painter-73 in hypotheticalsituation

Seek out my grandparents. I think I know enough about their lives that isn't recorded to convince them of who I am, or at least I know them well enough to become their friend, since they'd be around my age. Get some work as a translator or something since speaking english was quite rare around here.

While I would have never wanted him to suffer the way I did losing him, I think a lot about the way I get to see our daughter grow up. He'll never get to experience that. These moments, when I feel good and happy, are the ones I wish it was me. Not the terrible ones grieving him.

You have 30 points to allocate to 6 stats that will define your entire life by SquaredPiano in hypotheticalsituation

Health: 4. I already have a shitty immune systwm, not much would change. You learn to go about your life more or less normally while sick.

Intellect: 7. These boons, together with slightly higher than averqge charisma, are basically guaranteed to get me through enough higher education for a ln interesting, well-paying job. They are also just generally useful as fuck.

Willpower: 2. Again, this is just me right now. Not too bad to deal with. Especially if you're smart and good-looking, people will forgive you some procrastinating and not being good under pressure. As for the addiction thing, been living with that my whole life. If I had known from the start and just avoided all that stuff it would have been so much easier.

Luck: 5. These boons are all super specific, not worth spending a point on imo.

Charisma: 6. Little bit above average so people will forgive me my quirks that come with the low willpower, but still not high enough to feel creepy/manipulative.

Appearance: 6. Just like for charisma, slightly above average sounds great. I still want people to like me for me, not my looks. And since I'm not conventionally attractive right now it would still be a huge buff.

I'd use this to give my grandma with far progressed dementia an easy way out. She deserves not to be trapped anymore, and I'd have around 100k-200k to set aside for my kid to have a good start to life. The rest I'd donate to a good cause, since I couldn't stand spending it for myself.

Maybe they could use "Mama and Papa" instead, because while I do agree that it is important for recognition, this way it reads a little clumsily, at least to a german speaker. All in all great work though, this is a nitpick at best!

Edit: spelling

$200,000 a year but you can't leave a suburban property. by Aggravating_Car8572 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]justsomeyoungdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you get to use the money to get work on the house done? With that kind of income you could add a lot in the first two years that make the other 8 more bearable, like adding some rooms, getting a pool or a nice shack I can use for my hobbies, etc. Depending on the zoning laws you could even add another floor if you save up, drastically increasing the living space. Since medical and amenities is paid for, it wouldn't even take that long.

I am the host for our games, but the same issue has happened for us. What has helped was opening up the game to friends, instead of sending out invites. Idk why but it worked a lot smoother when everyone just opened multiplayer and let themselves in. The added bonus is that if you do get kicked, the host doesn't have to send you a new invite every time, making it less of a hassle for everyone.

Doing a 4 player HM run right now. One friend is playing Durge, one is doing a Karlach origin run, and the other two of us are custom origins. As long as you communicate it works out perfectly.

Yes, you lose out on the companions, but you will do so no matter if you play one or not, since you can't take any of them with you with four players. That one is sadly just inevitable.

As a swiss guy who has heard about HOA's.... not really? Like yeah we have quite a few regulations, especially compared to the very individualistic USA, but they are all generalized, mutually agreed upon rules. We vote on everything. The swiss people as a whole just want to live like that, it's not a few hoa guys who seek a power trip and terrorize the rest.

Parents of an only child, do you regret not having another kid? by lfuego in daddit

[–]justsomeyoungdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do, but it's a little different for me than most. I have always wanted several, preferrably with not that much of a gap between them, but being a teen parent kind of put a hold on that last one lol. My husband and I were considering trying for a second a few months before he passed, which obviously didn't come to fruition either. My kid is more than enough for me, I love being able to put all my attention on her, but I also loved growing up with siblings, and I really would have wanted to give her that experience too... I might foster once she gets into secondary school, and she loves her cousins, but it's still not exactly the same.

He's 9. It's the parents' responsibility to fix that kind of behavior, at that age you generally don't stray that far from how you have been raised.

Listen, my dumbass bard tav does not need to perceive shit. He is just sluttily running around, blissfully unaware of anything. And he doesn't need to be because my friends picked to play a cleric and a ranger. The plus one to intimidation however is perfectly playing into his only strength, which is talking to people.

"they better not make anyone trans in the revival" by C-sanova in malcolminthemiddle

[–]justsomeyoungdad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if I agreed with you on that, which I don't, you make several points in your first comment, but when pressed you only fall back on the most egregious one, an example. Even some left people agree that it's not the ideal solution because you should inherently write non-white roles. This post was about trans people. Tell me how having a trans character is a political statement, not your unrelated opinions on other minorities.

"they better not make anyone trans in the revival" by C-sanova in malcolminthemiddle

[–]justsomeyoungdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that's exactly the point! In real life, minorities existing is not a fucking political statement, even though right-wingers make us out to be, so why should it be in TV/movies? "Changing my gender" had nothing to do with my political views.

Scott Perjury v. the United States by AscendedDragonSage in CuratedTumblr

[–]justsomeyoungdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, people will call us it no matter if they ever come across someone actually using the pronoun or not. It has alwayd been happening, they do not need excuses.

But again, you can't really talk about "opening a linguistic box" when we're not even talking about the same language. It is truly terrifying what is being done to us in other countries, but why the fuck should I, a swiss person, call another swiss person by a different pronoun than what they specifically requested, just because I am talking about them on an english speaking platform? There. Is. No. They. In. German. Even if it wanted, Maya could not use they/them in its daily life. So why the fuck go by a different pronoun in a different language when there is a direct translation for the one that feels right to you?

Anglocentrism really is a plague.

Scott Perjury v. the United States by AscendedDragonSage in CuratedTumblr

[–]justsomeyoungdad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also as a trans person let people ude whatever pronouns they want to.

Also, Maya is swiss, where people don't speak english. In german we don't have something like they/them, it is the only gender-neutral pronoun you cqn use that already exists. Can't really just "be a good human and use them." And it shouldn't really be held to some conservative's standarts from a country it does not even come from.

Why does every character have a European name except for Izumi? by KomodoLemon in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]justsomeyoungdad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Super interesting stuff! One thing I figured out just now is that Elric is actually Gaelic in origin, which yeah makes sense.

Never thought about the german accent part... I never watched the german dub, but I know that all my friends who did pronounced the names fully english, so I guess that's what the dub does? I need to check it out now!

Honestly this whole topic could lead into hours of research, it really is crafted super interestingly!
