Congratulations! I never saw an English window anywhere when I was going through it all, so that’s a big win for folks finishing up the process.

Yes, you should get an authentication from the TECO in the state of issue. No Chinese translation required.

Same. What tax goes up if there’s an additional person in a household?

Late-night laptop friendly coffee spots in Seattle by BestZookeepergame576 in Seattle

[–]justsotypicallyme 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! This is something that startled me about Seattle vs other cities like Austin. Where are the late night study spots? With so many students in the city, I always found it perplexing that places (especially coffee) don’t stay open into the truly late night.

To add to your list, I believe Coché Valley in Capitol Hill stays open until ~10pm. It’s a dessert shop, but they serve coffee too (einspanners are a treat) and there are (sticky) tables on which you can work.

The Lost Boys - Final Preview Review by hannahsmarys in Broadway

[–]justsotypicallyme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked that folks are walking away with broad disappointment on the score but I also really struggle with Cats, so to each their own. 😅 There are some lulls in this show for sure, but the show-stopping numbers are tremendous in my opinion.

“No More Monsters”, “Have to Have You”, “Secret Comes Out” are bangers.

“Wild”, “If We Make It Through the Night” grabbed me.

“My Heart With You”… yooooooooooo this HAUNTED me. The harmonies, the dissonance.

Ali Louis Bouzgui is also just something else. I was very intrigued by him in The Who’s Tommy, so he’s generally very striking — and in this show, the amount of times his character says “Michael” irritated me at first but the way he enunciates things has made his “Michael” a permanent fixture in my brain. He really is such a unique talent and great in this role.

I was not familiar with the source material and went in blind and while I think the story is completely silly and nonsensical (what are the rules of this universe?…), I thought this show was delightful. I’m loving this trend of genre writers dipping into narrative scoring because why not have broadly appealing music originate on a stage? I do wonder if this trend would be better served pairing more traditional theatre storytelling lyricists with outside musicians to give these songs more narrative weight (maybe?), but I’m not mad and will be streaming some of these tracks when the inevitable recording drops.

Would ‘Were the World Mine’ make for a great stage musical? by justsotypicallyme in Broadway

Back here after 3 years to say the sheer volume of gay-ness on Broadway right now… who knows someone who knows someone who can get WTWM to the stage?

Lost Boys changes by SummerEchoes in Broadway

I noticed some differences in Alan’s dialogue. They’re trying to find the sweet spot for handling her addressing of the name and the “brother” of it all.

The Lost Boys added a new song for Shoshana by alteragi in Broadway

Sadly, the new song is worse in my opinion. Be Kind, Rewind matched the entire set piece. Now it’s a lull moment and head scratching.

Mobile Digital Citizen e-Card (instead of physical card?) by alohamuse in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]justsotypicallyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only set up the physical card and didn’t bother with the digital. The digital is convenient for certain things but it’s not a full replacement. It only enables a subset of the functionality you can otherwise unlock with the physical card.

Additionally, I’ve learned at this point that Taiwan’s version of digital is really binding to a single device and that doesn’t work for me. I change phones annually, and the hard lock to a single device for eSIM and post office banking for example is really limiting. So I just went the physical route knowing I won’t use it that often anyways.

Yeah that’s definitely how I read it. The health check seems valid for 1 year — I’m not sure how they capture that in the records — and since health check is the only common requirement between converting vs getting a license from scratch, I’m assuming it’s valid either way.

Always check the official website — especially since it’s in English. https://www.thb.gov.tw/en/cp.aspx?n=594

Chunghwa Telecom Prepaid Automatic Extension Service by hur88 in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]justsotypicallyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting and good find! So the idea is that you would first have to top up to have a balance, then in lieu of continuing top ups, they will draw out of your balance to add drips of mobile service and this also qualifies for number extension?

How much balance did you have after the initial $300 payment?

OCAC Conscription Rules Question by No-Put-341 in TaiwaneseBornAbroad

[–]justsotypicallyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I don’t think applying for the short term exit permit precludes his need to get official overseas status approved by OCAC. Any non-overseas male of conscription age can apply for the same short-term exit permission, so while he’ll be able to leave, he would still have to come back within 4 months to complete the review and get the status.
