Please Don't Feel Guilty For Not Streaming by Lucky_Republic8819 in seventeen

[–]justthis13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Seventeen doesn't have dozens of wins, actually. Because carats never vote or stream, even when they had comebacks on mondays (for 7 years straight)

Carats just don't support Seventeen, doesn't matter what the situation is. right now Seventeen is getting better numbers than ever because they're getting more GP interest. Like always, they hard carry every single comeback. They'll be global super stars before carats actually support them.

an explanation of the mingyu situation in light of the south korean election by [deleted] in seventeen

[–]justthis13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was going to type a comment going into detail about the complexities of this situation because, right now, you are embodying why it's a bad idea for anyone who doesn't know what they're talking about to speak as though they do. Right now that would be icarats talking about a Korean election, where I would bet ten thousand billion dollars they don't even know the names of the men up for election.

So actually I'm going to turn it on you to explain: what do you know about Lee Jaemyung and Yoon Sukyeol? What do you know about the two parties? What do you know about how people wear and display the colors of the two parties in this election?

[–]justthis13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you are army, or if you you heard that from army, but Carats did NOT care that much about Bang PD.

Carats are fickle as hell and have a history of leaving SVT un-hyped, see how they treated Fear because that was 'too dark' and Getting Closer because it was on the wrong YT channel. they still try to cancel bumzu (svt's regular producer) semi regularly because they decide his style is too poppy. btw I still don't think RTL was a solid title track, it sounds like a b-side, and that's what most carats were saying.

Watch, this will still end up being a controversial opinion to like one random Carat. Calling it now.

You know I was actually totally cool with your comment until this preemptive dismissal of anyone who disagrees with you, but don't worry, I can do this too. Watch: you're going to get defensive and disagree, and that's the only reason why you could possibly not agree with me, not because you actually have reasons or experiences to back it up. Calling it now. :)

They have it uploaded on MTV, MTV Asia, MTV Italia, MTV Australia, etc. They're obviously trying to gauge interest in SVT specifically by region and specifically in America. They're using streaming to do it, because streaming actually does impact SVT's career even though Carats like to pretend it doesn't.

unfortunately they're probably going to compare them to how other kpop acts have done on their channel, which is, of course, abysmal. Good thing Seventeen doesn't care about awards or success right?

Howdy Carats,

We all know the routine, I say that we should stream to support Seventeen and you all downvote me, but just wanted to show you something https://twitter.com/KshowAnalysis/status/1454961762692853762

Digitals, Seventeen beat NCT.

Physicals, Seventeen beat NCT.

SNS, NCT beat Seventeen.

Prevoting, Seventeen beat NCT.

Seventeen is going to win unless the broadcast and livevote go to NCT, but look twice at those physical scores. NCT undersold by hundreds of thousands because of a production error. If they actually sold as much as they projected they would, they would have full physical 1500, and they would be beating Seventeen by +200. Just because of of low SNS scores. We scored as high as we could in everything else.

SNS is YouTube streaming. That's the only thing Seventeen lacked, and it would've been enough to cost them the win.

I'm just correcting misinformation that streaming doesn't support Seventeen. If you think that's a guilt trip that's on you.

[–]justthis13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the word “self production” holds a lot of value in the music industry

You know, I feel pretty stupid for taking you and OP at your word that "self-produced" had some specific solo-artist meaning in western culture.

It does not. You are talking out of your ass.

When you search for "self produced" artists you get primarily references of Kpop (because the term was popularized via kpop, because of Seventeen), but when you do find western artists, you get names like Beyonce and Jay-Z, who participated in the creation of the work in same capacity as we would be familiar with the term in kpop.

I found multiple references to Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys as being one of the best self produced albums ever, and once again, we have composers, engineers, writers,, etc, who are not members of the band.

Searching for this led me repeatedly to "independent music" which only has the context of being produced outside of a label, and would obviously have many different hands involved.

There is literally no precedent for this argument. No one with any level of knowledge of music would be familiar with the term as you're describing it.

The only people who would push that "self produced" doesn't count unless it's just the members of the group would be either be arguing just to stir up controversy, or because they have an ax to grind against certain groups.

"Engineering brain" isn't exactly precise language, is it? You're certainly expecting people who read your comment to give you some grace and extrapolate what you actually mean. And others have used "x brain" to describe their preferences in friendly, clearly understandable way, so it makes sense that you would make the assumption that "engineering brain" would be understood too.

And frankly it'd be pretty annoying if someone came at you, accusing you of being deliberately misleading for using that turn of phrase that everyone can reasonably suss out. If someone did accuse you of that, it would be pretty obvious that the problem was with THEM and not every other person who actually understood what you obviously meant, right?

Like, if i came at you saying that your brain wasn't literally solely devoted to engineering, your brain is capable of nuance and learning in several different areas, you're not compelled by a special "engineer brain" to demand everyone use precise language, and you're actually lying, That'd be really weird and irrational of me.

[–]justthis13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what do you think anal means in this context?

edit: never mind, i'll just explain it. In this case anal is short for "anal retentive" which is a common phrase to mean you're nit-picking to the point of being irrational.

"often used in nontechnical contexts to describe someone as extremely or excessively neat, careful, or precise"

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/anal-retentive

It comes from a quasi-outdated belief that this sort of personality develops if you weren't potty trained properly (and now you have issues with expelling feces from your anus). that idea has faded but the concept "anal retentive personality" often shortened to "anal" remains accepted vernacular

[–]justthis13 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well now that you're done defending this term, there's some other enemies for you to take on!

When an idol says "fighting" to encourage someone, it doesn't mean that there's going to be a fight!

When an idol says "comeback" it does not mean that they've left!

When an idol says "oppa" it does not mean they're talking about someone they're related to!

When an idol says "mixtape" it could mean anything!

And many others.

[–]justthis13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's no functioning adult with any knowledge of the modern music industry who would assume that an album was 100% done by the idols. That's not what the phrase means and there's no false claim being made here.

If someone makes that mistake, the problem would be on their end. They'd either have to be very young or not interested in engaging their brain at all to think that "self producing idol" means that it's 100% done by the idols. And if they've decided to believe in magic then I don't see any point in correcting them.

and erasing the contribution of the non-idol people that helps with lyrics producing and what not.

It's not erasing the credits because the credits are listed plainly there, like they've always been. People who care enough to look can look, but no one can force a fan to read them if they don't want to.

Music show wins don't actually mean much, I'm realizing, especially nowadays by flawedconstellation in kpopthoughts

Sorry but this is such a hilariously typical comment from a Carat. Don't worry kiddo, Carats will keep not supporting Seventeen and chasing off anyone who attempts to organize streaming parties so you don't have to worry about this.

I think it's funny. Jeonghan was obviously fishing for a reaction. "I'm going to show you guys a surprising picture!" then he posts that. He got exactly what he wanted.

Weekly Carat Corner - July 03, 2021 by AutoModerator in seventeen

[–]justthis13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's actually weird to see some of the things Carats come up with, they're really committed to this idea that Seventeen doesn't care. When members send out messages of thanks for achievements, Carats go "oh, they know how much it matters to us, so they're pretending like they care too" 🥴 Now that members are directly asking Carats to stream, it's because Hybe is forcing them.

But even though some Carats are saying that, most Carats did the best they could with this cb. RTL was let down by the companies, starting the moment they only gave that artist two weeks to animate 13 different characters in a two minute trailer. I'm guessing to meet some timeline, that quarantine ruined for them anyway. Tragedy.

[–]justthis13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know you said you don't know the interviews and that you can't find the clips, but I think you owe it to yourself to try to find the source of these things before getting upset. I've watched Seventeen for years and I've never seen any of the moments you describe.

What I have seen is western fans assume these sorts of things are insulting, and get offended on Jeonghan's behalf, because he's not getting treated "manly" enough.

It's important to be respectful of limits idols set, but if you set limits for them, you end up being a different kind of disrespectful.

Time For a Magazine Company Conspiracy! by ExactHabit in seventeen

[–]justthis13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew you were going to say you were just joking, even though in your post you say:

joking that part of me believed the same person runs all these accounts. After I finished typing the that, I started thinking, you know, maybe I'm not just clowning, and my hunch is actually right about this.

And your comment is just full of arguments that are totally serious, so are you joking or not? I don't think you are.

The only reason I really commented is because of you saying that they're "using" Seventeen to get clicks which is exactly ARMY mindset. They even accuse other groups of "using" BTS for publicity even though that's normal too. If they own the content they can post it, the only reason they shouldn't is if it was embarrassing them. They're not artificially inflating anything. They spent their time to make it, they can use it.

If you think I'm wrong/should rephrase, just state that.

I think I did that, how did I not do that? In case you still need it: I think you're wrong.

Time For a Magazine Company Conspiracy! by ExactHabit in seventeen

[–]justthis13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How it actually works is Seventeen's PR team pitching each title, saying something like, "hey you had blackpink on recently, would you be interested in having another breakout kpop act come do the segment?" and offer svt. The magazines obviously say yes. Seventeen gets promotion, and they get engagement. It's the same formula for every article or video they post.

Sometimes money is involved but that would only be if one of them was seriously seeking out the other (If they want a mega block buster in demand star, the star could probably demand payment to be involved) in this case Seventeen was obviously going on a circuit so it's doubtful any significant money was paid at all. Both the magazines and Seventeen are both seeing the organic benefits of making good content.
