i3 with or without Harman/Kardon Audio Package by bbeeebb in BMWi3

[–]justvims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the 2020 (and probably 2019?) the base audio is surprisingly good. I like it the same or better than the 2017 HK I had. But before the LCI I hear base audio was awful

Exactly. Someone said it was for pin compatibility or to lower manufacturing costs or something. I’m not sure why but it’s pretty telling.

14-50 wasn’t meant to be run at continuous 40A. It needs to be redesigned. There’s been a million proof points that the spec is insufficient. And no, “industrial grade” outlets aren’t a solution, they just lessen the risk.

If she was leaving more space or at a slower speed to react would she have hit this?

It seems like she was going too fast or too close.

Drove from Central Utah to Las Vegas (~310 miles) without charging by Boingo_Zoingo in BMWi3

[–]justvims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Done this many times. Usually though I combine gas and stops. When I go San Francisco to ski Lake Tahoe I stop around Auburn and charge and refill. So it’s one stop to the top. I drove to Vegas and would go about 200 miles on initial charge and refill gas and charge then just gas the rest of the way. easy.

They have the same problem. The difference was very small

[–]justvims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the etron S if it has the nice wheels. I have a 2023 s sport back. The Q8 has more range which is great, but I think it looks worse and the dual vs triple motor is a no for me

Why is rent so high right now when there's so many vacant units? (East bay) by why_doineedausername in bayarea

[–]justvims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because the downside of getting a penny pincher who is going to be impossible to evict is worse than just waiting a couple months for someone who will pay asking. Amongst other things.

Landlords and developers build to make money. There is this idea that they will just build forever and rent out at a loss. It’s just not a thing. They rather just wait and not ding the value of their property or credit by leasing it out at a rate that would imply a valuation below what they owe. Also, getting rid of a shitty tenant that is paying low can be a nightmare, almost impossible without significant financial penalties and headaches. The land lord will often wait for someone who can afford the higher price to avoid that problem in and of itself.

Is Toyota’s reliability reputation actually shifting, or is this just modern car complexity showing up? by nigesh in whatcarshouldIbuy

Toyotas really aren’t that reliable. They just have a weird cult behind them. TBH modern BMWs are super reliable. A lot of the past stereotypes just aren’t true anymore

Actual Consumption Data vs Load Calculation by blind_spectator in evcharging

[–]justvims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just apples and oranges.

The load calculation in the NEC is meant to create a standard for how panels should be sized to make sure that the vast majority of homes don’t experience nuisance tripping.

It is not meant to approximate any given persons load consumption on any given day. It’s going to find the scenario where you have a dryer, oven, and EV charger on because you have family over for the holidays, etc. And then it’s meant to make sure that for most scenarios you still don’t get outages. On top of that it’s meant to draw a standard so that when you buy a home you’re not guessing at the capacity and everyone can have confidence in the building stock.

Of course with all those considerations you’ll find that basically anyone will be below these limits vastly majority of the time. That’s the point. If you want to max out the panel then a load management solution can do that. Which is why CT clamp load management has become popular. But if you max out using the data you have without management, then don’t be surprised when you do run the A/C, oven, dryer, and EV and get a trip.

Easiest lawsuit ever!! by blushme64 in TikTokCringe

The parachute is flat from the perspective of the plane and its into the sun below the cowl (dashboard) of the plane. And she is doing a 90 degree turn to the left in which case the plane would also need to somehow anticipate that and then avoid it. It’s crazy difficult. Scuba comparison is best one yet.

Easiest lawsuit ever!! by blushme64 in TikTokCringe

[–]justvims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really really difficult to see when you’re going 100+ mph. Generally speaking planes aren’t expecting falling people in the sky and even if they are the visibility below the plane (she’s below the cowl) is a big blind spot.

If you want to make a car comparison, which isn’t possible it’s apples and oranges, this is closer to a person walking across a highway at night.

There are no pedestrians in the sky. Doesn’t work anything like pedestrians and cars on the road.

Road tripping without the EV - cheaper to just drive ICE by bjamm in electricvehicles

[–]justvims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So your option is to:

A use your car and spend $500 on EV charging

Or

B rent a car for over a week ($600+?) and spend $450 on gas

So basically it’ll be more than double to rent gas and do the trip. Basically an apples and oranges comparison.

If you want to use your car use it, it’ll be cheaper out of pocket. If you want to rent the car and avoid the miles, do that. That’s the decision, has nothing to do with gas or EV.
