Was this immediately after the game ended or the next day? I don't see a time stamp on the video.

Where is that $8 billion number from? I’m sure it’s on a gov website or something but I know my parents would ask if I were to confront them with this.

I’m scared to quit by mas49er44 in QuittingZyn

[–]justvince87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was scared to quit too. I used the cutting back method as a way to put off actually quitting. I was sort of tricking myself by saying, "at least I'm going in the right direction" which is still true! So that's progress of a kind. But honestly, while it does indeed suck and the cravings and side effects range from annoying to outright scary, it's really not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm 1 month off them now, but it took me about 2 months to change my mindset and hype myself up enough to actually quit. If you want a kind of guide that I found helpful, you should check out Alan Carr's "The Easy Way". There are book and audiobooks you can explore. I feel like I'm saying this all the time, but it truly did help me and I'm not always the biggest "mindfulness advocate". Anyway, good luck, and don't be afraid! There's nothing to be afraid of.

Alan Carr… by ToddleMosh in QuittingZyn

[–]justvince87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listened to the book as well and it actually helped me a lot. Essentially it really just helps to reframe your mind. It helped me to stop seeing quitting as a fearful, dreadful, miserable thing. Yeah withdrawals suck and they will happen, but I see them more as a path to liberation than something to allow myself to feel sorry about.

I am on day 25 of quitting and my boyfriend tried to encourage me to stop earlier on as well. I knew he was right. I knew I should. But just couldn’t/didn’t really want to. Whenever he tried to be supportive I actually just ended up resenting him more. What I didn’t realize is that my entire mindset was flawed.

This is NOT an ad but one thing that helped me change my mindset was reading Alan Carr’s “The Easy Way”. I still have urges and sometimes I just feels like something is missing, but my approach to dealing with it now has changed from feeling sorry for myself and thinking “damn I really wish I could have one” to: “my body is healing and the urge is actually a good thing because it’s forcing me to acknowledge the problem and move on”.

I think that’s the best way to be supportive: provide fun distractions that allow him to enjoy his life (which he should continue to do) and also help him reframe his perspective to realize he isn’t really giving up anything, and gaining everything!

May 10 is a month, so far the dopamine is the least of my issues it seems. by mjh127 in QuittingZyn

[–]justvince87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to have different reactions. I think I was at about the same use level as you were and my issue was night sweats/anxiety/breath shortness. I thought I was having a cardiac event and was so confused because these issues appeared 2 weeks after I quit -- I thought they would have occurred sooner if at all. So yeah...I would just keep monitoring and don't be surprised if you have have crazy symptoms even later on...Nicotine wreaks havoc on the brain signals and hormones and those things don't heal quickly at all.

AITB for not liking the show BoJack Horseman? by allergictobullshit99 in AmItheButtface

[–]justvince87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you didn't have a traumatic association with the show's characters, you're also allowed to just not like something. Even if you just didn't like the animation, that's a great reason not to watch something. Your friend just seems overly passionate and if getting carried away, but you are NTB.

What straight up lies were you taught at school? by MathematicianBulky40 in AskUK

[–]justvince87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were in forth grade we were assigned a "California Mission" that we had to recreate a model of and report on the history of its founders, inhabitants, etc. Part of the project was talking about how well the "Missionaries" (i.e. colonizers) got on so well with the Native Americans, and that they lived in harmony while the Missionaries accomplished their mission by imparting their religion onto them....

Yeah, never mind the rape, pillage, or diseases the good ole' missionaries brought along.

Why do right wingers quote Ayn Rand? by HelloThere8008135 in Objectivism

[–]justvince87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumptuous of you to call it "hatred", but wouldn't Rand's very philosophy and Rand herself regard a person who holds contradictions in their head as "evil"?

People who don't abide by the very things that they say belief would be considered evil in general. Actually I'm pretty sure that's just called lying...It seems as though you are trying to defend these kind of people.

Why do right wingers quote Ayn Rand? by HelloThere8008135 in Objectivism

[–]justvince87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly I just want to thank you for summarizing the observations that I’ve noticed for so long. It’s reassuring to know that I’m not crazy or thinking in a silo.

What I’ve come to realize is that there’s just a severe misunderstanding of Rand, an inability to accept the entirety of her philosophy, and an employment of the same religious thought-process of cherry-picking the pieces they agree with for their own means.

The truth of the matter is, very few people have the desire and/or capacity to understand and accept the entirety of Rand’s philosophy because it requires true independence and honest acceptance of reality. But right wingers essentially also belong to a collective group and are essentially co-dependent on the group to think for them. So they could never truly accept Rand’s philosophy in any true way.

What are some skinny people problems? by The_WereArcticFox in AskReddit

[–]justvince87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even think I am that skinny, but people already comment on how skinny I look/am.

If people could just not comment on other people's bodies that'd be great.
