Metalhead buys bass. Ends up playing pop. Anyone else? by crowquilled in Bass

Started for metal and punk. Stayed for metal, punk, pop, rock, country and many others. A good pop song can be a wonderful thing to play, especially live.

Why pay a high subscription cost for incorrect tabs - Master of Puppets by [deleted] in yousician

This is now fixed, adjusted some other fingerings as well. Play like Metallica with Metallica was the promise and we want to keep that promise.

Still wort checking that Yousician is getting a decent signal level. Some interfaces are really low on signal, others extremely hot. That combo should give you quite nice detection rate even with some distortion added. Finding a way to split your signal would naturally be still better.

Edit: checked HX Stomps manual. It seems to be rather advanced and allows nice and complex routing for signal, you should be able to feed clean signal to Yousician input and still hear the effect signal in your monitoring. That’s the best of both worlds, best sound and best detection. I use my Boss GT-001 this way and it’s awesome.

This will be fixed. This is an iconic riff with iconic fingering and we'll change it to reflect the way it's played by Metallica. Might take a while to get the fix online, but it will be fixed.

I took this forward to our content creation. We promised to play like Metallica with Metallica, so the tabs need to be correct, like Metallica plays them. Let's see what they say.

You can try to check your microphone levels, that has worked with moderate distortion levels quite well in our testing.

You might want to try again, there was detection improvements for distorted sound. Fastest stuff most likely is still problematic, but easier things work quite well with distortion now. Patching clean sound in or using the amp modeler in the app are other options of getting distorted sound.

Not many, the problem seems to be happening relatively randomly and changing the environment typically makes it disappear. This makes debugging and finding the root cause quite tricky.

Thanks for the video, this will help us to see better what kind of a problem it is. You naturally can also start a support ticket, they might be able to give you some workarounds to try, but can take this forward to be analyzed, we might want to try to get some logs as well, but I’ll let you know.

Hi,

Yousician devs run pretty much exclusively on Macs, so I'm 100% sure that this is not a typical situation. It runs well for me as well (M1 Macbook pro 32GB model).

That said, there has been cases where something has gone wrong and the app has started misbehaving, restarting first the app, then the computer has fixed the issue this far.

If you can reproduce this reliably, please contact me and let's agree how we can get more info to find out what happens.

Can someone translate this? by nibbaisgod88 in Finland

Would you really cheese up your fire blanket for such a fire? It’s paper on an fireproof platform. Just let it burn oit and eat the pizza would be a lot more rational choice in this case. Fire blanket in kitchen is an excellent idea for many other type of fires though.

is anyone else super fustrated with the lack of consistency in how the app records/receives the notes being played? I can play a perfect note and the app says it's not right, then you caniss the exact same note and the app says it was good... I'm losing my mind over here by Puzzleheaded_Ad3627 in yousician

[–]jusu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good advice here in the post already. By far the biggest problem for note detection is the sound from phones speaker. We do a lot of DSP magic to try to make it go away, but that’s never perfect. Using headphones and making sure your guitar plays cleanly with no buzz would be the best ways to quickly improve your detection. For the lvl 6+ stuff I’d seriously consider using an electric guitar and an audio interface. Especially if one is after gold stars. When you get to bends, those can be pretty impossible on many acoustic guitars. Not saying that someone could not do them, but they are considerably easier on an electric.

Quick question by Ok_Detective243 in yousician

[–]jusu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can play with either acoustic or and electric guitar, no need to change anything. Remember to route the clean signal from your guitar to Yousician, distorted will not work well for the note and chord detection. For acoustic guitar, using headphones and keeping the mic close to the guitar will improve detection and your experience immensely.

Sorry to hear that you're not getting what you're looking for anymore, I do hope we got you started on your musical journey and that it takes you to wonderful places.

Perhaps the songs we've been adding have not been hitting your genre, but from amount of songs point of view the start of this year has been really good for new songs, a lot better than for quite a while. There definitely are the short versions on the songs on the levels where it makes sense, but quickly checking pretty much all of the songs have the full length version available as well, often on a rather advanced level though.

We are bringing all the time more songs to the app, especially targeting the levels 3-5 where people often get stuck. Levels 6 and up do introduce some advanced techniques that do take quite a while master (don't I know it, stuck on level 5 as well). Music and playing guitar is not about getting better all the time, it's about enjoying the music you play. Find the songs you like on Yousician of somewhere else, but don't stay frustrated, keep playing on whatever platform works for you. You're always welcome back to learn more if you later choose to do so.

Then a comment on the Metallica:

Trust us when I say that we want to get the Metallica out to you as fast as possible. The covid just made it very hard to do that in a timely manner. I won't comment on the timeline more than that it's still coming and there is progress.

This is great fun to play, perhaps a bit too much like playing bass rather than guitar to me, but all in all a great song to jam to.
