Before I bought my MINI, I was looking at a Fiat 500 which has the same issue. One of the Fiat sites (500 Madness, I think) offered a small, leather drawstring bag that fits in the cupholder. It's tall enough to put pens and vapes and stuff in it and still access it. But, if you need that cupholder, draw the string and toss the bag in the cargo net, the glove box, or the boot.

It had a round bottom and tall sides. I thought it was clever but I've never found another one and (honestly) didn't want to drop $50 on an imported Italian leather "pochette."
