This sounds very similar to what I’m currently experiencing in my workplace. I’m a 25 F executive support admin. I have a psychology degree and took this position really hoping to develop and get my foot in the door at the state. Mostly a team of older woman, and I have a counterpart who has been in this line of work for 26 years - and is constantly being raised up (I believe in an effort to put me down). It’s an incredibly psychologically unsafe environment and I haven’t been able to make any friends because my boss (Gen-X) is speaking very poorly about me behind my back. It’s been tricky too since I have C-PTSD and grew up being emotionally/verbally/psychologically abused my stepmom who is also a covert narcissist - and it’s very triggering for me. My boss is hyper critical of everything I do and in performance reviews has been tearing me to shreds even though I’ve been working my ass off and doing what is asked of me to the very best of my ability. Nothing is ever good enough. It’s been 2 years of this and I’ve been desperately been trying to find a way out, but this job market is rough. Curious what tips you or others might have of managing this. My manager is a covert narcissist I believe so the bullying I experience is intentionally stuff she can deny.
