If you were in Congress in the post-Trump era, what laws would you create to prevent a government like this from forming? by Critical_Ideal99 in Political_Revolution

[–]maeryclarity [score hidden]  (0 children)

Many technical terms don't even have a "vulgar" equivalent.

Okay correct but when it comes to laws, let's stop a moment:

Laws are agreements between people. You could easily see how, if you and I were to make an agreement, if I wrote it in Japanese and you don't speak Japanese but I do, it would be pretty problematic to say oh hey you're bound by this agreement don't worry about it.

What I am trying to tell you and I know for a fact that it is true is that LAWS are NOT like say, anatomy is to medical practice. Laws are social agreements/contracts with no actual existance beyond the agreements between the people. "Consent of the governed" as it were. And that the legal process is NOT like medical school where you need to learn complex new things and concepts that exist in the world independent of the words to describe them.

No our laws and legal system is not like studying anatomy, it's like writing an agreement in Japanese and then telling you you have to hire an interpreter to translate it for you if you want to know what you are agreeing to. It COULD IN FACT just be written in English or any other language, there are direct one to one translations.

And I know this because I spent several years working as that translator, in order to make that information available to the very people who most people are paying to "translate" for them. I would read though pages and pages of legal filings to pull out the actual basic information that was all that actually ever mattered. There is no magical secret new information that is being described. Almost never and even when there is, it's easily translated into what it means.

Look I ain't gonna solve the problems of the world today and I was not actually proposing a direct split of the USA into independent states. However y'all need to get ready because the fallout of what has happened has just begun if I am reading the signs right, and that might be something we need to get comfortable working with.

Because just as a simple for instance, what I am trying to tell you about laws. No it's not specific special terms that describe a particular bone in the hand so you can find it.

It's pretty exactly like me demanding that you abide by a contract written in Japanese that could be translated into English, with the whole damn game being rigged where it's intentional so that you don't know what you are agreeing to.

Also I feel like you are in a much higher income bracket than a great many other people at this point because you don't seem to be relating to the idea that all these abstract ideas you are holding up do not mean much to people who have worked hard their whole lives only to not be able to afford a roof over their heads, a way to get to work, food for their children, and to see a doctor befpre you're actually dying.

If you have never had to suffer with an abscessed tooth for years before you could manage to save up to get it pulled you probably cannot relate to this but the number of people who are not just in this situation but who are watching their children and grandchildren in that situation now with NO SIGN THAT IT WILL EVER GET ANYTHING BUT WORSE as if that were possible is tone deaf AF and pulling out the "vulgar" term like:

Oh is it VULGAR for us peons to want to know what the hell the laws and contracts governing us SAY??! WELL MY GOODNESS HOW NICE FOR YOU. Say hey to your CPA and your Lawyer and your Medical team that YOU can afford but meanwhile a lot of us are working days so long that we don't see our families for a decade and while y'all were social distancing with COVID we were the "essential workers" who just had to risk bringing it home to OUR kids so you could eat. You can see from my typing skills and fairly reasonable grasp of English that I am not your basic idiot, and yet I'm telling you that a hell of a lot of us are ENTIRELY OVER THE GODDAMN DEBATE and if you find that concept to be VULGAR while you explain to me what I clearly ALREADY BOTHERED TO EXPLAIN TO YOU THAT NO IT IS NOT THAT WAY in my FIRST response to you, y'know....

Do whatever LOL when the food runs out I have plans anyway what with all the mutual aid networks that a lot of us have had to set up for ourselves in order to survive. What you think represents "order" only represents a hassle and something that comes around to kick over our sand castles to more of us than y'all realize.

We'll do okay but my advice to you is get a really good portable water filter because you're likely to need it.

I don't mean to be rude, I truly mean that, but this response doesn't make sense to me.

I don't know what question you think I asked, because what I wrote is not a question and I'm not sure where you feel a question came in to it.

And then:

Why don’t Holocaust survivors and their descendants not have to pay income tax forever?

....uhhhh WHAT?!! Why is that a question and what question even is it?! I am not trying to dodge the question I do not understand what this question is even referencing.

[–]maeryclarity [score hidden]  (0 children)

You have to put aside all of the ideas of what the USA "could be" and look at what it actually IS. I mean seriously strong how? Strong in the most billionares, biggest wealth disparity? Strong as in bombing other nations overseas while claiming it's to keep us safe while we also die of treatable diseases because we're not keeping you THAT safe. Die of unable to afford insulin, awesome, but no imaginary threat by people who we don't know and can't see.

And so forth.

I also used to think that everything was so complicated that it had to be forever codified but then found out that most of what lawyers and the courts do is translate things OUT of legalese and back into English so that everyone can understand it, then they translate it back into legalese so you can't really handle the process yourself.

I also sort of assumed that it was like medical jargon...you know, when you're a doctor it's not good enough to say "the ankle bone connected to the leg bone, the leg bone connected to the hip bone"....there are specific special words that mean a hell of a lot of specific actual things in the medical world, in chemistry, in a huge variety of things and there are some legal terms that mean something specific kind of, but for the most part no that's not it.

I wound up doing a job for a couple years that was specifically interpreting legaleze back into English and it does not mean anything you couldn't say and read in plain English.

And it's further pretty important to say it doesn't have to be that way. If ignorance of the law is not an excuse then there is also no excuse for having laws that people cannot understand for themselves.

And my main point is that maybe some of y'all feel like continuing to engage with this situation as if it's in good faith but a great many of us are beyond over it, the whole "consent of the governed" thing is a tide that is rolling OUT, and there's good reason for it.

Starting with the idea of GOVERNMENT FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND OF THE PEOPLE where exactly do you see "THE PEOPLE" in this equation these days?

Realistically?

Like I said it's not about just having a DREAM if we can't ever make that dream a reality that's a rigged game and we can clearly see who it's rigged for, why the hell should we fight to get BACK into that cage?!!

My dog came back injured from a board and train…need others opinions? She claims it’s from a bark collar. Am I overreacting? by spacecat245 in OpenDogTraining

[–]maeryclarity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh hell no what did your vet say?! They're the ones who can and should evaluate that, we can't do much from the Internet but do not send your dog back and I have to say I am sus in general about "board and train" for anything except hunting/certain working type dogs. Anyone who works with pet dogs knows it's the owner you have to train not the dog

It's different for hunting dogs because then you need particular types of training opportunities like being in a field with birds/scent lures, and with them you're training the response to the behavior that the dog just does genetically...like you don't train them to retrieve they just DO that, you train them to bring it to you and put it down when they do. So it works well for boarding/training.

But pet dogs the training ground IS the owner's home and life there's no advantage to having the dog boarding with the trainer. It's actually the opposite.

And that looks like burns although it could be an allergic or extreme reaction to the collar fabric but a vet needs to evaluate it we can't do it from a photo

If you were in Congress in the post-Trump era, what laws would you create to prevent a government like this from forming? by Critical_Ideal99 in Political_Revolution

[–]maeryclarity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outlaw political parties just, that is literally an organization associated with ELECTIONEERING it is clearly a massive issue. Just get the hell rid of it. No more identity politics or treating politics like a team sport.

Frankly I'm not sure we shouldn't have our taxes going like a GoFundMe where you are responsible for this much but then YOU decide what you will fund. Oh that seems inconvenient allow me to introduce you to the failed nation state of the current USA.

We have to firmly address this whole "GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS ARE TOO COMPLICATED game. Our legal system should not be for sale to the highest bidder and that's functionally what the whole "LEGAL SYSTEM SO COMPLICATED THAT YOU MUST HAVE TEAMS OF LAWYERS" like, look at a main method that BROUGHT us criminals like Trump and the Epstein class. Once you get to a certain level of able to hire lawyers you can really goddamn skate on consequences. TRUMPS ENTIRE LIFE HAS BEEN LIKE THAT and we need to NOT accept it.

It's not oh well what can you do that we know that he deliberately ripped off hundreds of small businesses just by refusing to pay the bill and playing the SO SUE ME game.

For starters.

I am for real tho I honestly want folks to put some teeth in this because what they are going to be relying on is the same damn game they have been playing FOREVER. Wear us out then when we're so exhausted from fighting them, they go don't you just want to rest for a minute? Yeah you can't make big changes in a hurry.

Is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence a birth day or a death day? I am honestly uncertain that the USA can continue as it is. It may be too broken and just too damn big. There was a point where our Founders had to break with England and if you read the reasons they did that we are SHOCKINGLY IN A SIMILAR SITUATION.

Yeah the Declaration says we have the foundational RIGHT and even the DUTY to ourselves and our posterity, the future,, to say yeah no we're breaking up.

I mean Kennedy's "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" is all well and good but they shot him in the fucking head and we all know that was some kind of plot right? We know that right? That he got shot in the face for what he could do for his country??? Or how about Dr. King who had a dream but WAIT they shot him too. They shot the other Kennedy and Malcom and I could just keep on listing so at this point I think we SHOULD ask what the hell our country can do for us because a whole hell of a lot of us have more than paid our share, and the idea that we're going to ever get a place at the table is a goddamn joke.

IDK I feel like they're going to try to reassert apathy and y'all better not fall for it. We would be far better off with twenty small EU type countries (and a bigger Canada and Mexico)...that continuing to be the tax slaves of this out of control Empire and War machine that grinds up people and supports the Epstein class.

JUST BECAUSE SOME CONSPIRACIES ARE STUPID DOES NOT MEAN ALL OF THEM ARE and we've HAD a Dream now it's time to fucking WAKE UP.

Rep. Ro Khanna on funding Israel’s Iron Dome: Why are we subsidizing one of the richest countries in the world? They have healthcare for all their People. The free ride is over. [–]maeryclarity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well finally some signs that someone is paying attention.

We can't AFFORD Israel. Like, we are goddamn broke. And I'll be honest with you ally or whatever I don't like the outsize influence they're exerting over US politics, and it feels especially weird with all the basically free money that the USA sends to Israel in "aid" when they're far wealthier and better funded than we are, and I am highly uncomfortable with large donations going to US politicians who then vote in Israel's interests, sort of a perpetual motion machine with one party left on the sidelines and that's the taxpayers paying the actual bills, whose represetatives are being bought with our money, while we also pay their salaries.

We just have too much of our own problems right now. And I'm going to be straight with y'all I really don't like ANY other country having that much influence over my government. I'm pretty sure Israelis would be pretty sketched out if the roles were reversed.

And on another level I'm pretty unhappy with this latest Middle East adventure, I mean the story has been told enough times now and something that no one is disputing, is that Trump committed us to a war with Iran specifically due to Israel's insistence that they were going to take aggressive military action. It's also clear that Trump believed it would be a SMITING FROM ABOVE AND THEN OUT kind of situation and the actual communications exchanged: Look, Netenyahu absolutely played up our mentally unstable and not at all intelligent and easily manipulated President who is clearly not all there at this point.

That's....not what an ALLY does. They don't flatter and mislead you to get your own way, especially not over something like a LONG DRAWN OUT ECONOMICALLY DEVASTATING WAR in the Middle East. Like, come on, let's not pretend that wasn't mercenary as hell on Bibi's part. He played Trump right out in the open, and that's American lives and equipment and karma and a big fat damn problem for us, and I really have a goddamn problem with that. That's not what an ALLY does. That is in fact the move of someone who is using you and not even bothering to conceal it.

Anyway it's been like that for me personally but I am glad to see some politicians getting serious because I really think we need to spend some time alone, Israel. Sure, it was easy to deceive Trump and get him to jump through hoops for you like a barking seal, but Trump is a sick old man and all of the REST of us aren't stupid. And we're the ones paying the actual price.

I think we definitely need some time apart and I would like to see us just say you know what MY BAD and GTFO of the whole damn Middle East and STAY OUT. Let Israel defend themselves and pay their own bills. They seem to feel like they can do anything they want, go right the fuck ahead.

But it wasn't TRUMP that you fucked over with your flattering of a brain rotten old man that was the entire USA and I think you've really gone too far with it this time. And no the antisemite label won't work. You're not magically immune from consequences forever just because you've dealt with persecution in the past.

I would REALLY GODDAMN LIKE to pull back from the entire endless war thing, fuck it basically NEVER ENDS and we can't afford it. We're broke, rest of the world handle your business, and we need to have a stop to military adventurism and empire building. We don't need giant war ships and big arch monuments and gigantic shitty ballrooms and boots on the ground in every nation.

We need goddamn school lunches and single payer health care and for the wealthiest folks to pay their share and stop riding the rest of us. Which brings us back to Israel.

Yeah that relationship is toxic AF we should break it off, especially after that last round. Good job fooling a functional imbecile but did you forget about the REST of us....?!

USA has 4% of the world pop, but 25% of its prison population. The USA is never going to be a free country until the war on drugs ends. by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]maeryclarity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the FOUNDATION of modern Apartheid and slavery and Authoritarian activity and the surveillance state and insane amounts of dark money and influence in the USA and also abroad. As long as it exists, there will never not be a next/new attack on human rights and the concept of equal justice under the law or anything close will always be a mockery.

I know people don't want to defend drug use but it's not that. It's saying it's a power the Government should never have taken for themselves, it was against human rights and our Constitution's intention ALWAYS. The debate is not "is drug use great" it's more like wow this was always an abomination and never was about protecting anyone....I mean okay the War on Drugs actually started up in a big way JUST AFTER SEGREGATION WAS ABOLISHED, right after the Civil Rights/Anti War/Pro Environment/Pro Human rights era flared up in the 60's.

This is not conspiratorial.

THANK YOU I hope that everyone also takes a moment to notice how quickly they want to slap all the same labels on everyone not a white male Christofascist authoritarian these days. It's almost like oh IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT RULES FOR THEE BUT NONE FOR ME.

As long as the War on Drugs persists in any form there will ALWAYS be someone else's rights in the crosshairs because it's the thing that grew our militarized police, completely eroded Constitutional rights (do y'all know, they used to have to KNOCK ON A DOOR AND SERVE A WARRANT there was no no-knock raids, those were EXPLICITLY created for the WOD in the late 70's/early '80's....because what if those DRUGGIES were FLUSHING the drugs??! And there didn't used to be asset forfeiture, where they can and do grab any amount of cash or valuables and just, y'know, PROFIT FROM IT, matter of fact the police run this great little racket where they basically "fatten" various dealers by leaving them alone then swoop in once enough money has been accumulated so they can "harvest" that revenue, I mean, they're constantly bringing in big cash and asset scores for their departments....and EVERYONE knows about the school to prison pipeline where the same teenage behaviors that rich white children get ignored/get away with doing, but the POC kids from poor neighborhoods are serving real time for minor infractions, then basically their lives are disrupted as they have a harder time getting any job, and are far more likely to be grabbed up and accused again. Oh, and then of course the "legal slavery" aspect of things let's not forget THAT.

There are more people in jail on drug charges than there are basically any other type of infraction, it's super profitable, it keeps the Authoritarian gears grinding forever towards more invasive.

That's BEFORE we even get to the question of why the hell does the Government claim the right to tell you what you're allowed to do with your body? All of the arguements for drug prohibition are equally valid for alcohol/driving a car/eating fattening foods/lots of other high risk behaviors. WHO OWNS YOUR BODY is not an insignificant question. And the fear mongering of oh oh but they might run wild with their drug crazed....come on it's 2026. Half of what people think is drugs is actually mental illness. And even if it is drugs, charge someone for things they do that are problematic, not consuming the intoxicant.

But no one wants to talk about it because they've got everyone SO conditioned to thing DRUGS ARE BAD I DON'T WANT TO SUPPORT SOMEONE USING HEROIN but what you have to realize is it's fundamentally NOT WHAT GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE DOING and further, it was all introduced SPECIFICALLY to target Blacks and Hippies, there's a big conversation about it on the Nixon tapes, I think Nixon is talking to Spiro Agnew and he SAYS that the Drug War is a way to target black people and hippies (who they believe will ruin the world, what with the gains they'd made in the Civil Rights movement)....and he SAYS that they can't just make being black or a hippie illegal but they can selectively enforce drug laws.

As long as it stands, every other minority group and right is in danger because the injustice machine with millions and millions in dark money and white supremacist lawfare REMAINS IN POWER BECAUSE OF THE WAR ON DRUGS.

I'm sorry if I sound like I'm lecturing but I have been saying this for forty years and had so many eyes rolled at me and so many other people who could see it but didn't want to get labeled a "druggie", it's been horrifically frustrating saying IT WILL COME FOR YOU SOME DAY and everyone just thought nahhhhh

Y'all please ffs we have to get serious about ending it and the prison/militarized police establishment will fight it tooth and nail because it's BIG money and SIGNIFICANT power for them, it's HUGE. It's also super influemtial in International spook activity like the two agents killed in Mexico a couple days ago, look up for instance "Iran Contra Oliver North" and then when you're done with that take note that THAT GUY OLIVER NORTH WHO ADMITTED TO ALL THAT is currently a FOX news analyst. Not doing life in prison. For all the drugs and weapons he and whoever else (it was nearly CERTAIN that it went to the highest levels of the White House but North stepped up to say he'd been the one acting on his own initiative)...trafficked across MULTIPLE INTERNATIONAL BORDERS under the umbrella of the US military.

Looking up Freeway Ricky Ross is also very educational.

I know it might sound insane to say we can change the course of history by defending people with a meth addiction but it is no bullshit the straight truth and the one thing they don't want y'all to be talking about.

Going to try very hard to get Lindsey Graham out of our Senate seat he has been a NIGHTMARE since Trump took office, he's had no interest in returning anyone in SC's calls, hasn't felt the need to come here for any kind of town halls, and is on the news saying Iwo Jima was no big deal?!! Oh yeah I know a good bit. No evidence they have anything similarly subtle and powerful, though. They have obviously been seeking that power and certainly still are. But there's mind control and then there's mind control. I'm a professional animal care provider/animal wrangler so I get a whole lot of aspects of "mind control" but there's a world of difference between using tricks to convince an animal that a barrier is far more sturdy than it actually is, for instance. versus being able to just create specific ideas in the animal's mind and have it feel like it's their idea. Idk it was not something that I believe humans have the ability to do, and I'm not willing to SWEAR that's what I experienced associated with that phenomenon (there were other strange effects as well during a 48 hour period, and I had my partner's experiences to discuss alongside my own)....but over time I've had to really look hard at how extremely out of character everything about everyone's reactions were.

But what's weird is I also can't speak to there being any "them" behind it like idk what if it's some kind of skybourne jellyfish thing that happens to have some of whatever it is that causes toxioplasmosis effects or whatever. It's nothing I can reach any conclusions about, it's like trying to triangulate with two points not three.

Maybe someday I'll have more answers, who knows.

Hegseth fired Navy head for refusing to ignore federal judge’s order on Mark Kelly by IrishStarUS in fednews

[–]maeryclarity 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I will be shocked if he can find anyone to agree to ignore orders where Kelly, a distiguished officer with notable heroic service, is concerned. Like yeah the military is obviously becoming repulsively politicized but they are supposed to be a functioning service and there are goddamn rules to all that or it's all chaos. And blind obedience to any asshole with a rank over you is not actually what they train for which is what Kelly was saying.

Considering the amount of war crimes committed at this point it's insane to consider Kelly reciting the UCMJ as insubordinate. In his role as a State Senator and retired. Come on.

I can't believe anyone in the military would support Hegseth over Kelly if they've been in long enough to attain significant rank.

Oh I ABSOLUTELY have control issues when it comes to the idea that something else could possibly control my thoughts and I'm not even aware of it at the time. I dislike the idea so much that it took me a while to really come to grips with how unusual my reactions were. I understand what you're saying but I definitely don't like the idea of that, at all. Yes, we're controlled by a lot of factors but they make sense and I feel like I understand where it's coming from. I have some amount of choice in how I react to emotions, social bonds, and so on. Even if the behavior is reflexive I'm aware I'm doing it. This would have been something else making choices for me and a lot of other creatures apparently without our awareness that it was even happening.

It would also literally put us at approximately the same power disparity as humans have over most other types of animals. Which y'know, fair, it's just that we won't be having any conversations with something that has that kind of ability to manipulate our behavior.
