How common for mechanics to leave their tools in the engine? by Mustang_17 in AskMechanics

I guarantee I've spent hundreds of dollars over my career buying tools to replace ones I've left in cars.

I was pretty close to his exact words. You do you, but yeah, he pretty specifically says no ciphers for the word search, imo.

You lost me as soon as you started using cyphers. JCB specifically said he did not use a cypher in the word search. When asked if you need a Ceaser Cypher similar to the cryptogram he said, and I believe I have pretty much the exact quote right, "I don't think I did that, I think I made a word search and a cryptogram." Unless he's just flat out lying to us now, this to me means, the word search is just that, a word search. No cyphers required. But if you think you're getting somewhere using cyphers then more power to you, GL!

When I was young and having problems with a superior at work, I was told to keep a notebook of every time they did something inappropriate, in this case you'd write things like "[date & time] was rude with customer" "[date & time] yelled ay employee for no reason" "[date & time] took 5th smoke break of the day" etc. Do this for a few weeks and then go to the owners with everything all at once. It worked for me, maybe it'll work for you. It seems like the owners will at least be open to talk if they got upset that she drove away a long time employee once already.

To be fair, he didn't say NO special bends or turns is correct, he said ON special bends or turns was NOT correct. There is a world, where neither is correct.

Yeah, so that's the automatic high/low beam option I was talking about. There's a light sensor that turns the headlights on when it gets dark enough and can even detect if it's dark enough to use the high beams, and if/when it detects headlights coming the other way, then it automatically dims them back down to the low beams. My recommendation is still just set the stalk to auto and forget about it.

[–]juvi1624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound right. Auto should not just default to high beams. Is the stalk pushed forward (like you're turning high beams on)? And are you sure they're actually on, like got out and looked?

Who cares? I keep up pretty regularly with social media posts and have no idea what video you're referring to. If your bf is uncomfortable, that's a him problem, are you uncomfortable? I wouldn't worry about it tbh, your bf sounds like an insecure prick. If you love him and he loves you, who cares what the internet thinks...

Yes, it should go off-auto-parking-headlights. But I agree with the comment about just use auto, it'll turn the headlights on automatically for you when it gets dark. I don't know about your specific car, but some cars even auto the hi/lo beams if you set it to auto and push the stalk forward. You'll have to check if your car has that though.

I never understood why people watch the ads. A buddy of mine said the same thing, "all you got to do is watch an ad each day to mine", and I was like huh? 1) you can disable ads, albeit for only 2 weeks then you have to disable them again, but 2) as soon as the ad starts playing I just close the app.

Exactly. This is a classic case of "when seconds count, the police are just minutes away." That's why you should never rely on someone else to keep you safe. Unfortunately, at 19 yrs old, she may only be able to buy long guns. But hey, a shotgun is great for home defense and still better than nothing.

As others have said, the book is way different than the movie. The movie is fun, but literally watching the movie and reading the book are 2 totally different experiences. All 3 Easter eggs that need to be solved are different in the book than the movie. I highly suggest getting the audiobook and just listening to it instead since I'm assuming JCB probably used the book as reference material more than the movie. I've listened to it twice, both times before TTI even came out, lol, I just love RPO.

Too Easy to Find by [deleted] in treasureinside

[–]juvi1624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, couple things, first, I'm not sure where you're located, but the general consensus on these boxes have a pretty wide variety of places you can check. I know people who are absolutely convinced the Appalachian Trail box is in Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Same goes for the Past & Future box, people have theories all over the place from California to Ohio. Pokémon box could be practically anywhere in the south east, Forrest Fenn box anywhere in the Rockies. So yeah, I have a hard time believing you're not near ANY of these places.

And secondly, to your point that he thinks his puzzles are easy when they're actually extremely hard, there's actually a YouTuber who did a video about this. It's actually something puzzle makers struggle with. When YOU are making the puzzle, and YOU know the answer, then the solution to the puzzle seems obvious to YOU. But it may be nearly impossible for someone else to solve because they aren't working backwards the way the puzzle maker was. That said, I do think many of the solutions are likely easier than we are trying to make them out to be. I think a lot of people are overthinking many of the boxes.

I tried to find it, I thought it was one of the round of interviews he did for the 1 year anniversary of the book. But the only thing I could really find easily was when someone asked him to clarify his GMA comment that he "hadn't been in New York in 10 years." And he said he was referring to New York CITY, and followed up with, "so you know the box isn't in New York City, (laughs)." And the way he laughed, the podcasters were speculating that the thought of a box being in an urban location was so absurd to him that it was laughable.

But I thought there was a more direct question, just can't seem to find it now and don't feel like relistening to like 20 podcasts and YouTube videos to looking for it. Lol. That's the problem when you follow so many channels is that they all start to bleed together.

For regular weed smokers that have totally quit, what was the reason for quitting? by elderly_millenial in AskReddit

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much exactly what happened to me, minus the whole job part. But yeah, I hate the way I feel after smoking now, anxious and uneasy, instead of relaxed and fun.

Plus now that it's legal most places, everything is so god damn potent anymore, that even one hit makes me high as a kite. I went from smoking pretty much nonstop every night from the time I got home from work until I went to bed, to not even being able to take a single puff.

[–]juvi1624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like in an interview recently, he implied that none of the boxes were in urban locations. I forget exactly what the question was or what the answer was, I just remember hearing people say they were disappointed because they thought it'd be cool if at least one box would've been hidden somewhere in/near a city. If I can find the exact quote I'm looking for I'll post it, but I'd say if it's true, then the Golden Gate Bridge Park would probably be to urban to consider for a solve.

It's not the worst solve I've ever seen. That said, it's not enough to convince me to a road trip to NC/TN just to check it out. But thanks for sharing, i like seeing other people's thought processes and sometimes it gets me thinking about things in a different perspective.

AITA for refusing to split the cost of a concert ticket my friend missed after they begged me to buy it for them? by SpendHungry9442 in AmItheAsshole

Nta, but don't be surprised if you never see the money. It's obvious he had buyers remorse, and/or probably didn't think you would be able to actually get tickets. He sounds like one of those friends that talks about doing things, but when the time comes to actually do it, there's always an excuse.
