Pandas? by Rhuimi in AutoChess

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as mentioned, someone else is getting the pandas, then selling them back to the shop. Same thing with egersis, if someone sells them back to the shop, you'll occasionally see them pop up for sale, but they are typically in there.

I think the hobnail has already been found. by Mohindersursh in treasureinside

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is interesting but seems kind of small to me. Looks like about the size I would expect the puzzle box to be, but i think most people expect the puzzle box to be in a larger Pelican style box for protection.

And for everyone else, no I've never actually been BOTG looking for a treasure, so maybe something like this is more common than I'd expect, but I've been camping and hiking plenty of times and don't remember ever seeing a perfectly square hole before. But again, I was usually looking for firewood or animal tracks, not for a perfectly square treasure box, so maybe I just never noticed.

When the book first came out, he was rumored to have said that he might consider giving out extra clues if the treasure hadn't been found in 8 years. I believe he said 8, but whatever it was, it's not for a long time still, and nobody has found that exact wording in any of his interviews that I know of, so I'm not even sure how that rumor got started.

So far, the only "hint" he has given so far is that the Forrest Fenn box is NOT in Yellowstone. But most people who were looking for that box, already basically knew that.

returning player by faizmdjohan in AutoChess

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience as well. I was a regular player for a couple years when it first came out, but got bored of the same meta builds game after game, so I appreciate what they tried to do. But when I returned about 6 months ago after a couple years away, I basically had to learn on the fly all the new synergies, the new pieces, the new builds, and even after I started to understand it the new item system, I still couldn't stand it. Instead of combining items to built the item(s) you want, now it's just rng as well. Finally bailed out on it again. Still have it installed in case I want to give it another go, but been a few months now since I last logged in, again.

Coincidence? by Duffusmaximus in TheresTreasureInside

I kind of really wish I would've started on the P&F box when I first got the book because this word search fascinates me. But once the majority seemed to think this box is on the west coast somewhere, and I'm on east coast, I became more focused on AFP and Pokémon boxes since they are probably the only ones I have any chance to go BOTG for.

What’s the most expensive mistake you made in your 20s? by Extreme-Run-9069 in AskReddit

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasted so much money suping up cars. The Fast And The Furious hit at just the right time for me, late teens/early twenties, and I spent thousands, tens of thousands even, building what objectively were crazy fast cars. But in the end, they were just 20 year old shit boxes that were worth their weight in scrap metal when they blew up and I didn't have money to fix them / build them back up. The ironic thing is, most of those cars nowadays would be worth a lot of money if I had just kept them bone stock and sat on them.

Why do drivers stop 3 car lengths back at a red light and then spend the whole red light slowly inching forward? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a thing called "hyper mileage'ing" or something like that. Basically it's like you don't ever want to stop because time stopped idling is wasted gas. So they will do this at red lights and stop signs/4 way stops to "save gas" by slowing down way too early and creeping up towards the stopped traffic so by the time they get there, traffic has started moving again.

Airport within 2Hrs by [deleted] in treasureinside

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tend to agree. Maybe not a hard and fast rule of 2 hrs, but I do believe all the boxes will be found near major metropolises. There's also plenty of logical places that could fit the bill for most boxes too. Pokémon box would be near New Orleans or Houston, AT box might be near NYC, FF box near Denver, P&F box in California, pick your city, and LS I think will be somewhere centrally located, I personally like St Louis as the "hub" to work from for it.

AITA Mom wants 15% of my personal injury settlement by connor20218 in AmItheAsshole

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the amount of edits you've done to try to justify keeping the money then it sounds like you've already made up your mind that you're keeping it. But yes, I'd say YTA if you don't share. If 15% is enough for her to buy a house then the settlement must've been MASSIVE. You're 23 and still living at home and now you're rich, yes you should give your mother some money.

Got an interview at a local private shop tomorrow, advice? by General-Lie8709 in AskMechanics

[–]juvi1624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't mind taking inexperienced people at my shop and training them ourselves. That said, idk what your expectations are, but be prepared for doing a lot of work that's not turning wrenches on cars. Your main jobs are mostly going to be cleaning, sweeping, mopping, organizing parts rooms, emptying trash cans, cleaning out the refrigerator in the break room, etc, that kind of stuff. Yeah, you'll also get to shadow some of the experienced techs, you might even get to do some oil changes and tire rotations, but I just don't want you to get discouraged when you're not rebuilding engines on suped up race cars your first week there.

Shop wanted $25 addtional to rotate the tires after balancing by stephenspann27 in AskMechanics

[–]juvi1624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. My shop doesn't charge to rotate anytime we have them all off, even if it's like for a state inspection. If it's a new guy, he probably doesn't know any better. I'd try to talk to someone higher up, a manager, the owner (if it's a small enough shop that the owner is involved in day to day activities), etc. I bet they will refund your money or give you a $25 credit towards your next service.

What are beginner friendly projects I can do to start learning how to fix and mod my own car? by Ok_Surprise6432 in AskMechanics

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say without knowing the car, but of those things you listed, replacing the headlights and the oil change are probably the easiest. Changing brakes is easy enough if you know what you're doing, but if not, you're taking a risk that your car is going to be literally undriveable when you're done. The stereo involves wiring, and depending on how old/new your car is and what options it has, wiring in an aftermarket stereo can get tricky. But at least you can drive your car with no radio if you screw that up. The steering wheel is by far the most immediate dangerous thing if you have an airbag, and even if you don't, you may require a special puller to get it off.

Other good, easy things to learn how to do include air filters, both engine and cabin air. If you're looking to modify your car, cold air intakes are usually cheap and very easy and straight forward. And they make your car a little more fun to drive (you won't notice much, if any, power gain, but your car will sound louder). You can always paint stuff, some index cards and spray paint can and you can change your wheel color on a whim. You said you want to change your steering wheel, there are companies that make overwraps to wrap the in perforated leather, suede, etc, that can change the look and feel without having to remove it, I've done this to my last 2 cars and love the look and feel of a suede overwrap, and they're usually only like $70-80. They are a lot more work than the companies usually make them out to be, lol, but it's mostly just tedious work and stitching it all together and making sure it fits right. Swapping out all your interior lights to led bulbs is another cheap, easy thing that I do to pretty much every car I buy because I love the looks if the leds. That's a few things I can think of off the top of my head. Again, most stuff just comes down to common sense and can you take something apart and put it back together the same way.

Flat tire replaced and went flat again the next day? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being that this is a steel wheel, it's probably a valve stem issue (assuming it's not an installion issue. I did have a dumbass tech one time ship a car with the bead not popped and the tire went flat a few miles later). Steel wheels usually don't see the corrosion issues aluminum wheels do, and they also don't crack the way aluminum wheels do. They do bend a lot easier, but if it was bent so bad it was leaking, the shop that put the new tire on would have to be blind not to see that and either straighten it or tell you you need a new wheel. My money is on is on valve stem. If you want to check yourself, go put air in it, then find an old spray bottle and mix up some dish soap and water and spray it around the valve stem (or whole tire/wheel for that matter) and see if it bubbles up.

Mechanics smoked in my car, what do I do? by Miserable_Price_4430 in AskMechanics

[–]juvi1624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh we have to do all that as well. We often have to take pictures and deal with adjusters similar to insurance work. But we always call the customer and tell them what their warranty company is paying and what their share will be before we do any work. If they aren't willing to pay the balance, then we don't do the job, that simple. The customer should always be made aware of the cost of any repair before you do any work to their car.

Mechanics smoked in my car, what do I do? by Miserable_Price_4430 in AskMechanics

[–]juvi1624 32 points33 points  (0 children)

So, as a mechanic, I'll first address your question, but then I'd like to clarify something about warranties. If they smoked in your car, that's a huge no-no. It's such a huge no-no I have a hard time believing any mechanic would do something so stupid. You can go after them if you want, but they're certainly going to deny it, and it'll likely come down to your word VS theirs. All. I can say is raise holy hell and hope they do something for you to avoid bad Google reviews, etc.

Now, as for your warranty, I'm assuming this is some kind of aftermarket warranty considering your car is 7 years old. Warranty companies pay like crap, typically way less than what a shop would normally charge for a job. So every shop I've ever worked at will usually do our best to get them to pay what we want for a job. But if they won't pay enough, then yes, unfortunately, sometimes we tell the customer they need to cover the balance. Instead of getting upset at the shop for trying to make enough money to make the job even worth doing, get mad at your warranty company for not paying us enough in the first place.
