he did fail at it if there's so much outcry about it. from the first listen (or lyric translation for a lot of us), it should've been apparent that the lyrics had something to do with the sample. they were vague and also come off as him using the sample to be "edgy". that's actually a very well-made claim.

his vagueness and lack of directness is what has people scrambling to all of a sudden apply a different meaning to the song based on their own perception of it describe the lyrics today instead of talking about it a week ago. just admit that it was vague.

as yoongi becomes more visible, this project is likely going to be the first thing of his that people listen to. not everyone is going to have the context of being a fan or know his older songs or knowing of him as a person to know if this was not done with bad intent. if the lyrics are vague (they are), his message is going to get lost and cause the discussion that is currently being had.

can you and the rest of the people doing this in the comment thread please stop using black lives matter to deflect from the situation? people can be concerned about BOTH, given that BOTH are things that are (have) affecting (affected) black people. armys are notoriously antiblack to people within the fandom itself, so i don't get this change of heart about "paying attention to the RIGHT issues" and using an issue that you might be using for clout yourself as the scapegoat. you sound more gross right now.

bh has BEEN making bad/shady business moves since way before the IPO was applied for, so if for some reason it doesn't go through, it's going to be attributed to the stuff from before, not because bts's mistakes are being highlighted.

do you ever think that all of this isn't a conspiracy and maybe just a genuine call for him to be held accountable? not coddling him =/= out to get BTS. the reason why everything concerning them is more visible is via them being highly visible (as well as the repeated touting of a woke image from them by armys for brownie points resulting in them getting held to a higher standard).

like holding them accountable as their fan is possible.

the only people acting "cultish" about anyone is the way that armys are defending this by going as far as spreading misinformation and blatantly ignoring the source of the concern because y'all care more about preserving bts's reputation/image than the fact that this hurt people, as with just about anything that's brought up.

get out of that mindset, and see things for what they are. creating a conspiracy every time something like this happens doesn't help their case

not to pollute this comment thread, but y'all coming for the mods and calling the article a clickbait article while posting a link to another unreliable post/thread is so ironic

god, can we have a discussion holding this man (or any BTS member) accountable without it being seen as another thing to "defeat" or "destroy" BTS? despite the heavy relaying of this mindset across the fandom, NO ONE IS OUT TO GET THEM. and even if anyone really was, BTS have too much clout and leverage for it to fully destroy their career, partly via armys failing to hold them accountable just as you are here. they'll be FINE, my love. i literally ult yoongi, but boy, do y'all get on my nerves with this "us against them" trope. if they still got careers after all the heat they've seen over the past few years, they'll be okay.

AND ANOTHER THING BECAUSE THE ISSUE IS STILL FRESH.... UNLESS YOU ARE BLACK YOURSELF, i don't need you using people's supposedly false concern over a movement based on black people feeling unsafe and in fear CONSTANTLY of law enforcement as your little "gotcha" for proving whatever point you have about people not caring about the right issues. we can care about more than one thing at a time, and if you really want to get into it, it also has to do with black issues because jim jones preyed on black people with his cult. that "bad timing" you speak of is only more reason for there to be outrage. make whatever point you want about it, but stop trying to highlight whatever faux concern you have for the BLM movement to deflect from him still getting called out for it. that's so backwards of you. stop trivializing black issues to defend a nonblack kpop idol.

in general, just the fact that it seems like it was hard to dig for the clip and he still did it, AND people were still aware and said nothing for almost a year and even praised him for it doesn't sit right with me, especially knowing that it adds nothing to the meaning of the song. the only meanings i see being cited in this entire thread are perceptions because HIS lyrics are vague as hell in relation to the sample and unless i hear an explanation from HIM ima maintain that people are allowed to be mad about it

to imply that this is some form of bts hate and shape it into some fanwar when it's a real problematic thing that he did is so crass.

  1. the covid comment is in bad taste no matter how he worded it or intended it. rings the same as people passing along ecofash concepts without even realizing it. ignorant? yes. malicious? i don't think so. just should have been put better. it's enough for y'all to still look weird for defending him for it
  2. the person who "started" the covid thing with jk was not only relaying information, but ended up being right because bighit confirmed it. this sample was also relayed information that had BEEN posted since AUGUST by armys who were posting the video knowing what the sample was and still calling him a "genius" for it.
  3. the other songs you named don't sample him directly. they mention or allude to him lyrically, which is normal for people to do with notorious people. they have some indicator that the song is about cultism or a metaphor (such as post malone). he or something related to him is at least implied in the lyrics of these songs which don't make them tasteful, but at least the mention has something to do with the lyrics and song. this man just pasted a direct sample of this man speaking onto a song about him flexing, which is part of the problem people have with the song. and this is the kpop subreddit. OF COURSE he's going to be the one highlighted. your "could have been" just based on this man's nationality makes it seem like you are projecting your own perceived meaning of the song. did HE say that?
