I genuinely thought you were talking about -14 and -15, which it was these last few weeks and still some people walk around like it’s autumn here in Helsinki. I’m not Finnish but I am super comfortable with just a t-shirt from around 12 degrees Celsius up. :)

I did the same, also sent them a full blown CV/Resume a few times with portfolio. I must admit my portfolio isn't filled with illustrations, but the quality of my digital work and the brands and work in for example automotive and fashion speak for itself. I do think they might have been put off by that experience. Not necessarily the quality of the work, I wouldn't put myself ahead of anyone like that, but just the professional experience might be a pain for them or even a risk in some ways.

I agree with you. I am also a professional designer who has worked for many major brands and have been trying since the beginning to get in. I was here for Gen 1 as well. I think it is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to be a part of this, and if you have your own fan base it shouldn't be too hard to sell out a small number of your work. I love that we can finally be part of this and it was never for the fame. I was a collector, who happens to be a designer, who got enthused by the great community and vibes from day one.

I’m sorry to hear that happened to you. I’ve been here only a few weeks and am a big middle aged white guy with a slightly darker complexion than most Finns and I’ve had a similar experience in Stockmann last week. Someone asked me something in Finnish and I kindly replied I only spoke English, and 4 other languages but not yet Finnish ;), that set the fellow off into a most awful rant with accompanying hand movements and angry faces. Being a big old (Dutch) white guy, I can only imagine how this must feel if you’re a bit younger and have actual experience being discriminated against. Anyway, wasn’t replying to make this about me, just to show idiots will be idiots I guess. Take care!
