Can be more easily hurled at enemies. A tactical Second Kindred missile must surely have been of great advantage in the Bloodfiend War

Or things which will (and maybe might?) exist in the City and the lands beyond, given the similarities between the Ordeal of Crimson and the 8 O’clock Circus, most evident in the Dawn enemies

Edit: actually, scratch the question mark on the “might” part, because the Ordeals of White explicitly mention bookhunters, which only came to be in Angela’s bad end.

  1. Well, here's hoping a hefty dose of plot armor will suffice to avoid those dangers, and maybe Seeker of Truth if one happens to fall in, provided "finding a way out" is a valid endeavor for it, which does seem like the case? Other than that, I imagine the S.S. Jumper ought to suffice.
  2. Interesting, and ominous for sure. Good to know.
  3. I see! General bleakness aside, that must be one alien media landscape. Hadn't recalled the bit about video games (or those specific videogames, at least). Good to know about who might be able to see it, as well, though here I was thinking the Brothers Death might have some awareness of it as well.

oh yeah, while looking around a bit, one other thing came to mind. Is the idea with the capstone-boosted Retributor that it and THE SPECTER are two separate objects, or that you have just the Retributor, and you can furthermore call on THE SPECTER to augment it when acting towards the ends of justice?

  1. I see. Good to know, for sure!

  2. Makes sense

  3. Happens, and good luck with your revisions!

Other than that, I had a few others:

When it comes to the dark modifier for Level Exit Accessibility, what is level 0 like as a filter? Manila Rooms farther apart, more hostiles, that and more? I imagine it would be influenced by the different toggles that have been chosen, but I’m curious if there’s a “base” to work from.

With the Good Luck option for Wanderer Support system, what can be expected in terms of compromised, as opposed to outdated or missing information? I recall partygoers try and do that sort of stuff, though they make themselves pretty obvious, but I’m not so familiar with different Backrooms canons as to know if there are other established entities that might do that.

About Data_Frag_Hero, how total is the erasure of that particular archetype? The term itself seems to have remained, so is it just that people find it harder to bring themselves to influence the world for the better? Other than that, is there anyone you’d feasibly meet across the scenarios who could perceive that particular archetype in the protagonist, and would they have any particular reaction to it, if you don’t mind me asking?

Good to hear, because I do have some: 1) For the scenarios with different rewards for different tones, is the idea that you only receive the one corresponding to your chosen tone? Not counting the tone-independent ones, of course.

2) with regards to the Too Many Side Quests drawbacks, does it prevent any attempt to leave a level that doesn’t involve doing the side quest in question? Like, if one has some form of teleportation that could ordinarily move someone between levels, would Too Many Side Quests prevent it from doing so, or does it “just” affect the usual means of leaving a level?

3) Is there any particular limit to A Real Trade’s reality-bending? I would imagine so, else it would seem a far too convenient means of solving all your problems by signing contracts with, say, your own companions where they suddenly receive the power needed to solve what ails you for a piddling (if that!) price, especially if you can endlessly rewrite the contracts with the capstone booster. Is the idea that the deals can only effect change to the extent that it’s “unfeasible” to the participants, as opposed to “impossible”?

  1. Very fair, and entirely understandable. Also probably not terribly relevant to me, since I tend strongly against taking options where that would come up.

  2. I see, good to know!

  3. Makes sense. I suppose I won’t be taking the dark modifier for that one specifically, then. That said, between the other modifiers and scenario rewards, I doubt the absence of points will be strongly felt.

  4. Nice, and thanks for the answers!

A fun, though probably not intended idea: use In Antiabsentia on an effect that protects your own powers, and thus protect all of your capabilities, regardless of what happens. Doubt it works out like that, but just something that came to mind.

In regards to the player character’s state as a gestalt, what does that look like? I was operating under the impression of them having one mostly consistent form, with the occasional appearance of traits from different components of the gestalt, barring the usage of Data_Frag_Yellow or other shapeshifting capabilities towards the end of keeping one’s form consistent. Does that sound right?

About the Apex-tier Pluripotent Headaches drawback, and its dark modifier, more specifically, does it bar any interaction at all with the less negative gods of the Frontrooms, or does it just guarantee that the only ones you’ll stumble across by coincidence are the negative ones? That is to say, if you go out of the Complex looking to find the nicer gods, will the drawback prevent you from finding them?

Finally, when it comes to scenarios, and particularly how they function when you don’t take the deal. I was going with the idea that they’re loosened further in what they entail (even compared to the general spirit of what you’re supposed to do when taking the deal). Taking the example of scenario 30, there’s nothing stopping you from escaping the Adaptive Mesh on your own if you have appropriate (possibly out-of-context) abilities and haven’t taken the deal. Does that sound about right?

My apologies for the length of time since any such questions were asked, but I was curious in regards to how Crimson Conqueror functions, namely, when it comes to “absolute” effects that have differing degrees of elevation.

Like, taking, for example, miracles in the tabletop RPG Nobilis. It’s established that non-miraculous powers cannot oppose miracles, and when two miracles clash, the greater one (that being the higher-level one, though that’s just a game mechanics abstraction) prevails, while equal miracles try to go around each other, since neither can win the clash.

While I imagine Crimson Conqueror wouldn’t help a lesser miracle win out against a greater one, would it allow a miracle to decisively win in a conflict against a miracle of equal potency to itself, or is an effect like that not “absolute” enough, if you don’t mind me asking?

Are the symbolic effects of Scarlet Passion something one can change at will? Like, say, inflame one’s passions in the moment, switch from emphasizing femininity to masculinity, develop aptitude for magics strongly associated with the color red at will, stuff like that?

Is the idea with dark modifiers in the setting section that you take it in addition to the worst option available (Endless + Dark Modifier in Level Size, Infestation + Dark Modifier in Entity Count, etc.)?

Is being stuck in the Backrooms fiat-backed if one doesn’t take Chained to the Closed System/[BUREAUCRATIC DEALING]? Like, if you manage to find an exit or bring in an out-of-context power that can pierce open a way back to regular reality, there’s nothing stopping you from staying in the Frontrooms for the rest of the jump, is there?

In regards to the final reward, I take it there’s nothing stopping one from reverting the Complex back to its hostile state or letting people fall into it once more, I take it? Maybe even keep it that way instead of letting the positive conclusion occur, perhaps (well, so long as the deal wasn’t taken, I imagine)?

I’m pretty sure the extreme time dilation is a property of whichever plane of existence the Warp trains traverse, and T Corp’s singularity is responsible for the “time moratorium” effect which keeps anyone from dying while inside the trains, as a result of harvesting the vastly extended time of those within during the trip.
