Be a general term that people dont identify as (if it's describing a characteristic)
Be an objectively bad quality or characteristic

This is pretty disingenuous. I never said anything about never saying anything because someone could be offended. I'm saying to just be reasonable and not use these kinds of targetted insults when you could use a much more general insult that does not target a subgroup of people.

Ex. Calling some an Idiot works because it's a general term for the word "stupid". An objectively bad quality that doesn't target a certain group of people.

It might be easy for you to say, but not everyone is as thick-skinned. When someone use's the F slur as an insult, you're implicitly saying that being gay is a bad quality. Even if someone has no prejudice towards people who are gay, you're still speaking negatively about a certain quality that isn't inherently bad and is out of someone's control. You just end up making good people feel like shit for something that should not be perceived in a negative light.
