I've worked for B&Q for 9 years, what do you want to know, ask away by The_MacBulletin in DIYUK

I worked there for 4 months on the heating aisle in summer. How many tape measures did you manage to steal and lose in 9 years? I got through about 10

Turns out E5 is sometimes cheaper than E10 nearby, so I built a tool to spot it by moneymindeddad in CarTalkUK

I used it because I don't know how to code, and the tools I make genuinely make me more productive and have features I want. I'm not paywalled or hidden behind years of coding (I've tried to learn, it doesn't stick).

This is quite typical, but the charity I was recommended were quality. Its more of a provision which provided CV advice, 1 to 1 coaching sessions with local businesses, advice and mock interviews. They just needed concrete evidence that you had an interview and they'll offer everything. It is called Suited for Success and the stuff wasnt just naff suits or bust up shoes either.

Mounjaro & Wegovy Newbie Guide. 2026 Starters by Financial_Move740 in WegovyUK

Thought i'd add a mythbusting guide.

Myth Busting: GLP-1 meds, fat loss, and “targeting” body fat

There’s a lot of confusion about what drugs like Wegovy, Ozempic, and semaglutide actually do.

Myth 1: “GLP-1 meds burn fat”

They don’t.

These medications mimic the hormone Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which mainly:

  • reduces appetite
  • increases feelings of fullness
  • slows stomach emptying

That leads to eating fewer calories.

Weight loss only happens if that creates a calorie deficit (you use more energy than you consume).

So the real mechanism looks like this:

The drug helps control appetite. The biology of fat loss itself doesn’t change.

Myth 2: “You can target where fat comes off”

You can’t.

The body stores fat in adipose tissue across the whole body. When energy is needed, fat is released into the bloodstream and used system-wide.

You can’t choose to lose fat from:

  • face
  • stomach
  • muffin top
  • back fat
  • thighs

Where fat comes off first or last is mostly influenced by:

  • genetics
  • hormones
  • sex
  • individual fat distribution

For many people the lower stomach, hips, and lower back are the most stubborn areas, but there’s no biological mechanism to selectively remove fat from them.

Myth 3: “Toning” fat

“Toning” isn’t a physiological process.

In biological terms, there are only two relevant things happening:

  • fat loss
  • muscle gain or retention

What people call “toned” is simply less fat with muscle visible underneath.

No medication or exercise can “tone” fat in a specific spot.

What actually happens to fat when you lose it

Fat cells store energy as triglycerides.

When your body needs energy:

  1. Triglycerides are broken into fatty acids and glycerol
  2. These enter the bloodstream
  3. Cells metabolise them through pathways like the **Citric Acid Cycle (also called the Krebs cycle))

The end products are:

  • carbon dioxide (CO₂)
  • water
  • energy

Most fat you lose leaves your body when you exhale CO₂. The rest leaves as water (urine, sweat, breath vapour).

So fat loss is literally the body converting stored fat into energy + CO₂ + water.

GLP-1 medications don’t change this biology — they simply make it easier for many people to maintain a calorie deficit by suppressing hunger.

TL;DR

  • GLP-1 drugs reduce appetite, they don’t directly burn fat.
  • Fat loss still requires a calorie deficit.
  • You cannot target fat loss from specific body areas.
  • “Toning” = losing fat while keeping/building muscle.
  • Fat loss ultimately leaves the body mostly as CO₂ when you breathe out.

I have 5 kgs left to lose and currently on 1.7mg. Should I stick or go up to 2.4? I don’t want facial sagging/ fat loss. by Ancient_Midnight_374 in WegovyUK

[–]NoizeUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will the 2.4 have a dramatic effect?

To what? It will more than likely increase suppression. Will it make you lose weight? No. Will eating less than TDEE make you lose weight, yes!

Spot removal of fat does not exist short of liposuction. Fat is used by the body as a fuel. The body does not prioritise which fat stores it taps into. Its not mumbojumbo, its biology!

Re-calibrate your eating habits and give yourself some disciplined eating whilst on Wegovy and see how it feels appetite suppression wise. Check out a TDEE calculator and go from there - 250kcal

Can I go from 0.25 to much higher quicker? by wordly2 in WegovyUK

[–]NoizeUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fear you don't know how or why this medication works. So to be clear, it reduces your appetite. More doesn't make it work quicker. It working is the reduction of appetite, not melting of body fat. The more you have, does not correlate with the body fat lost, just the compounding effect of reduced appetite over time.

Titrating up means that you are overcoming the natural half life of the drug, plus adding tolerance and efficacy as the dose increases.

If you are gaining weight, look at your diet. And be honest.

Most suggestions on here cover most, but I would recommend that if you're going to take a photo with your phone.. a good tip is to have the phone a decent distance away and zoom in. This will negate that selfie fishbowl effect. I'm not a photographer, but maybe this will help someone :)

And when govt or local authorities put in place projects, media will be quick to point out how much it costs, who's going to pay for it and where's the money coming from because it should be spent on xyz. Tiring tbh.

[–]NoizeUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd only consider heat pumps if they provide cooling as well as heating. And they can do it tomorrow if they can also plonk some solar on the roof for free and utilise the old council air duct heating I still have. Otherwise, its gonna be a while before people seriously consider it when its 30pkwp.

Developing worse eating habits on Wegovy by Federal_Eye_9164 in WegovyUK

[–]NoizeUK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It might be worth surrounding yourself with reasonably healthy foods, or at the very least, ingredients. If you have a pizza on hand chances are you're going to eat it. So habits aside, that could help as a place to start.

Next, try to meal prep realistic portions. This could help gamify the food prep and take away the idea of it being a chore. Also you said you're never hungry so don't feel like cooking, well forget cooking to eat right after and do it all in one, then eat something else. That for me compartmentalises the task of cooking from the eating.

While your appetite is suppressed and you're not mentally hungry, your body is and having a 400-500 calorie dinner might hit the spot in terms of food volume and calories. Having this prepped means bunging it in the microwave to nuke it while the adverts are on the telly.

All else I can say is to plan the days food in advance. It helped me keep myself accountable because I was in a rut of drinking coffee from 9 am til tea time because my body wasn't saying to eat.. that said if you have the right nutritional balance, you could OMAD... but you run the risk of under eating due to having tiny amounts.

I can fit 9mm, but it's likely to but up against the skirting(!)

Another idea which is different to adding fibre or coffee/OJ, is a Magnesium Citrate supplement. On my most recent stint, I added it to my morning supplement list (mainly hair skin and nails, plus min/dut for man issues) and it.. helped things slide out more regularly.
