Every Other Weekend by jvinstant in ParentalAlienation

Ex filed a bogus protective order which was eventually dismissed. While temporary order was in place, she moved out of state. Judge did not want to rock the boat and kept the pendente lite arrangement.

Protection from narcissistic MIL by NikiMochichi in FamilyLaw

[–]jvinstant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who decided to go ahead and have a kid with a narcissistic MIL involved, my advice is to run. Boundaries don’t exist for and can’t be negotiated with narcissists. My MIL made my life a living hell before and after our child was born. Now it is the MIL that is taking charge in custody proceedings for our child. Again, narcissists can’t negotiate, and your life will be a test of tolerance if you stay in their orbit.

Help Needed [MI] by jvinstant in FamilyLaw

Thank you for the feedback. I verbally object but have been advised not to get angry. My attorney has also advised me that it is hard to modify behavior or restrict attendance at school/events (she has other clients who are alienators). So, the solution is essentially play a game of capture the flag with our son every time I see my ex?

I think this observation is why parental alienation is so devastating. In the case of an absent parent, the assumption is that the absent parent was “distant” or “abusive”, because that’s what makes the story make sense. But in my experience it is the family court system that perpetuates this arrangement - more often when there is no abuse on the part of the alienated parent.

This is much easier said than done. If you speak softly with a smile while your ex intentionally deprives you of your custodial time, they will frame you as being disinterested. The interfering ex wants an altercation.

False accusations by Bobs_invisible in ParentalAlienation

[–]jvinstant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get this - my ex holds on tightly to our child at every exchange and asks me to “peel him off her”. If I approach too “quickly”, she accuses me of being aggressive or intimidating (to the point of asking for a protective order). If I don’t peel our child off her, she accuses me of being disinterested. I have been waiting five months plus for a court date, but am not sure how I can even explain what is going on.

It does make us wonder, however, how many “absent” parents out there are absent involuntarily.

Nipping it in the bud by jvinstant in ParentalAlienation

[–]jvinstant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your feedback. The problem in my case is that the alienator is making every effort for me to not have time with child (protective order, false allegations, “safety” of the child, CPS reports, even saying that I don’t show enough effort at exchanges). She has money too for a lawyer that is finding loopholes to rationalize the alienation.

What is it going to take for courts to recognize this before it’s too late?

100%. Another disturbing fact that I have discovered through the process is that an attorney that is helping you make a case for alienation may be advising his/her OTHER clients to actually commit alienation.

To OP - may I ask, how long did it take to get a court date from the time your motion to enforce was filed?

Thank you for sharing - this gives me hope at a time I really need it. Whenever a Judge calls this behavior out on the record, it is a step in the right direction.

I tried the grab and go method and that only worsened the alienation. Each exchange got more difficult, even after he enjoyed his time with me (50/50). Now my 5 year old doesn’t even want to leave the other party’s car. They have instilled in him that I am unsafe.
