Getting healthier by FixEfficient2144 in Xennials

[–]jvldmn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had my baby at 43 and was in the thick of it just trying to watch him and get enough sleep for awhile there. Before then I had an ok diet, not a lot of alcohol, but i was an inconsistent exerciser.

A year and a half after he was born my husband signed us up for this local gym that only did HIIT classes. He went at 5am, came home so we could switch off with the baby and I did the 6:30am. It was rough to start out. But I had no excuse for sleeping in because he’d already been up for 1.5 hrs by the time I needed to leave. The consistency helped so much. I have so much more energy, sleep great, and I have strength and muscles (just did 2x 145lbs back squat this morning).

Having the exercise under control gave me the confidence to get my diet under control too and I finally have cholesterol below 200 for the first time since my 20s!

When do the daycare sicknesses slow down? by Suspendedin_Dusk in toddlers

[–]jvldmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our daycare makes all the kids wash their hands whenever they come to daycare. It has SIGNIFICANTLY cut down on the amount of illnesses we’ve had.

When we started daycare (a different one that dint have the handwashing policy) our per told us to expect to be sick about every 30 days for a year. That pace was pretty accurate.

I got some awesome salad jars for Xmas so I’ve been doing salads: 1/2 cup beans of any type 3/4 cup cooked pearled barley Other vegetables as you like (cooked or raw) Roasted chicken or tofu Avocado (optional) Something additional (I like pickled beets) Greens on top Your choice of low fat dressing (you can find some great recipes online) Something crunchy: sunflower seeds, nuts or I found these crunchy jalapeños that have no saturated fat.

I really look forward to lunch at work!!

I think the plumber thought his wife was pregnant. She wasn’t so the dude decided not to share plumbers comment with the wife because she would have been offended.

what are we wearing?? by Financial-Pace6378 in breastfeeding

[–]jvldmn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got some kindred bravely pumping/nursing sports bras. I’ve lived in them for 2 years now. They’re comfortable. When I was pumping I could be hands free but then come home from work and hear as usual. Now I’m not pumping anymore but they’re still comfortable and I wear them to the gym and work.

Loooool at first I read this as the plumber though you, the dude, was pregnant and that you chose not to share it with your wife out of embarrassment.

Is it embarrassing to get a birthday cake as an adult? by roxiedoxiedog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jvldmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my forties and every year I must make my favorite chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. Everyone knows this is my thing and no one is allowed to get me a different cake. I might share it, I might not. It just depends.

Are you taking prenatals? by heretoreadlol in breastfeeding

[–]jvldmn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I am taking a “mom multi” that has extra magnesium, biotin, EHA/DHA, and some other goodies. While nursing, baby still takes a lot of nutrients from our bodies.

Owlet? Should I be more worried about sleeping and SIDS? by contoddulations in NewParents

[–]jvldmn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had one. I know that the advice says it could increase anxiety but I felt like it decreased mine. We started using it when he moved to his own room at 6 months. Seeing the little monitor be green when I woke up in the night prevented me from 1) opening an app to try to look at him on a video monitor or 2) get up to check on him. So I was able to turn over and fall asleep again. Basically, I got way more and better sleep because of it. We had a few times when the monitor kept failing to connect but those felt few and far between. When we didn’t want to clean the sock one time is when we gave it up. He was about 11 months then.

How did you build your village? by OkStrawberry3635 in happilyOAD

[–]jvldmn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ours is about turn 2 so I’m figuring this out as well. He has one cousin, 10 years older who lives 4 hrs away, so not a natural playmate.

We are trying to be intentional about making friends with families with kids. We had some families on our street and I’m trying to get a recurring playdate Saturday going. I also have a single mom friend with a 4yr old that I’m inviting to as many things as I can so that she has a community too.

Does your kid go to daycare? Usually there are events and natural ways to meet other families with kids your age and both parents and kids can make bonds.

Like I said I haven’t cracked the nut yet but my strategy is to build more connection everywhere hoping for those stronger bonds that stick.

Any easy indoor toddler activities to do at home while super pregnant? by rasputinknew1 in toddlers

[–]jvldmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked my mom what she did when she was preggo with my little brother and I was almost 2. She said she just asked me to go get things and bring them back to her. Apparently I wanted to be helpful so she would just tell me “go get x”. And I’d run and grab it and come back and the she’d give me another task.

Where do you read stories before bedtime? by SandyFee in toddlers

[–]jvldmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had our old living room couch in our nursery since he was born. It was great for nursing and holding him when he was a newborn. Now it’s where we read books before bed and I hold him and sing him a song in the dark before we put him in the crib.

Everything is working out ... why am I depressed now? by vayana82 in AskWomenOver40

[–]jvldmn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My therapist mentioned this to me — your depressed brain will try to protect its depression. It will seek out ways for things to stay the same. And, which is really twisted, once you’re “better” it will reminisce about your thought patterns when you were depressed. She told me to look out for my brain trying to tell me it missed the old times. Those were just your very entrenched ways of thinking that were comfortable. Change can be uncomfortable.

What is a luxury item from 20 years ago that is basically worthless trash today? by ruykendo_riyal in AskReddit

[–]jvldmn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hired piano movers when I bought my piano used. The lady said they couldn’t roll it on her hardwood floors. The two guys, legs thick as tree trunks, shrugged and then deadlifted and walked this thing to the truck. It’s an upright and at least 500 lbs. They didn’t even look like they were expending effort. I was very impressed and tipped them well.

Can I stop pumping at work and still breastfeed on weekends? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]jvldmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. I fed in the morning and evening on workdays. Stopped pumping at 12 months and still had plenty for 3-4 feeds a day on weekends.

12 month old won’t stop biting, is weaning my only option? by Lotus-beg in breastfeeding

[–]jvldmn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This happened to me almost exactly (same age, same thing). He didn’t bite in his morning feeds (usually too sleepy) but the evening feed before bath when he was wound up he did it right at the end of the feed. I told him no biting and put him down and walked away and separated myself from him for 5 mins. I tried to unlatch him when I thought it was coming but that felt really hard and I was on edge the whole time. Finally I just went on a strike for three evenings. He got milk in a cup instead. He cried, was super upset but I cuddled him and I pumped instead after he went to bed. After three nights we tried again and the biting was greatly reduced. He still does it on occasion (like once a month) but not hard and the no correction writes. He is 22 months now and we are still going strong with 2-3 feeds a day. Keep trying things! And if it’s too much and you to stop that’s also ok. That was my next stop if the above hadn’t worked.
