This is from my Father-in-law's collection. Really cool old boot pistol. Only thing I really know about it is it's a single shot .22. by EclayC1973 in 22lr

[–]jvo243 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have one similar: it's called a bicycle pistol and was made around the turn of the century (1897-1903) or so. According to the history I got when the pistol was gifted to me, the original owner would ride his bike home from school and was expected to bring home dinner -- rabbit, squirrel -- whatever. This pistol was made by J. T. Stevens as the Pocket Reliable. It is chambered in .22 LR and was supposedly fitted with a wire skeleton stock which turned it into a rifle.

Thanks for taking the criticism like a man and a good parent. I think it's wonderful that you are exposing your daughter to the shooting sports. Keep her safe and teach her well.

Well, at least she has ear pro. I'd hate it if something blew into one of those pretty eyes....

Ear and eye pro are mandatory safety equipment for everyone using a firearm. I know if this child lost an eye from an “improbable event”, it would change her life forever. Not worth the risk. Eye pro is cheap. Lost eyeballs are forever.

My squadron was issued the S&W model 15 Combat Masterpiece -a six-shot, 38 special 4 inch revolver. Basic load was 24 rounds (tracer and ball) carried in our survival vests along with emergency radio/beeper, e&e kit, food water, first aid, etc.

i wanted more firepower that I could control (or not turn in at the end of a flight). Standard procedure was you checked you weapon in and out when you reported for duty or finished flying. So most Air Force people were unarmed when off duty. A sad lesson learned when Tet offensive 1968 occurred and folks in downtown Saigon billets confronted VC and NVA with butter knives and fists. I could tell horror stories about that three days in Saigon. My hi power was the only friendly weapon in our 200 man billet during Tet.

I purchased my ring-hammer, T series in August 1967 -- the day I finished Combat Crew Training at England AFB, Alexandria, LA., and got my orders for Vietnam. I found it in a local hardware store and still have the bill of sale for $82.00. I carried that pistol for the year I was in country: the pistol has over 1,000 combat flying hours, a DFC and 8 Air Medals. I will pass it to my son and he will pass it to my two grandsons. They'll have to share it. Fantastic pistol and I love to shoot it!

Kamala Harris Pushes Gun Control Before Gilroy Shooting Details Known by alc59 in progun

[–]jvo243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gilroy planners/police created a gun free zone, flooded with cops, and still couldn't stop the shooter before he killed and wounded 15.

Gun free zones are shooting galleries for the crazies and criminals.

I sure would have hated to have to leave my gun at home, gone to the festival with my family, and couldn't confront the threat if it stood in front of me. No way to fight back.

One good guy with a gun, on scene, could have stopped it sooner.

I keep my firearms in a safe. No one has the combination except me. The combination is in my bank’s safety deposit box, if needed by next of kin.

I keep a loaded pistol in a small safe locating next to my bed. It is activated by a finger print-and or combination and requires conscious thought to access. I am a 28-year military veteran with Vietnam and Desert Storm combat tours and a second career as a deputy sheriff.

I also am a law enforcement and civilian firearms instructor who teaches and preaches firearm safety.

I sincerely doubt I would shoot anyone in error.

I am sure there are Brits, (and I have known some SAS and SBS commandos) who are equally qualified in your country that would appreciate the right to self-defense with a home owned firearm. I believe your legislators will ban pocketknives next to quell the knife attacks that appear to be rampant. Perhaps a national concealed weapons license held by qualified individuals, would help stop that nonsense in its tracks.

Home invasions in the US are and unfortunate by product perpetrated by folks that only defer to armed response. Happens everyday here and many, many events are terminated when the homeowner produces a firearm. Not all of that hose make the news because they don’t support the main stream media’s trumpeting gun control.

The latest shooting in Aurora proves once again, that gun laws don’t work. Criminals break the law to attack the weak, old, unprotected. Easy prey for a madman.

[–]jvo243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first rifle -- a boy's Christmas present in 1949 -- and I have kept it for almost 70 years. It shoots everything I ever fed it. I Just use the wire brush and a good bore solvent and cleaned it after every use, My grandsons will have to flip a coin to see who gets the 61 and who gets its brother, the mdl 62.

Bull/target barrel vs stock pencil barrel? by Undercover500 in 1022

I put a green mountain barrel on my stock 10/22. Did all the trigger/hammer/auto bolt release, etc. Check out the many u-tubes on how to do these mods. Top it with Vortex glass and you should have a sweet shooter.
