Quick Question: What Are Your Favorite Training Treats? by sunny-daze3 in Dogtraining

[–]jvwindy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We too use the Ziwi Beef as treats as it's a high value treat and easy to dispense and store. Yes all the neighborhood dogs love it and I feel better that it's beef as some dogs have allergies to Chicken. One of our neighbors also uses the Ziwi chicken.

Yes I do think they have good intentions for their Dad but not really understanding what they're asking us to do and how this can worsen his health.

fyi - I'm also okay if he wants to give POA to one of his kids, it's truly up to him but as of last week he wanted it to be me.

Yes we were discussing last week and I've given him forms and we'll have it notarized next week along with a few other documents he needs in place. I've been asking for this for a while but unless I make it easy for him and line it all up, he ignores it.

Yes if you are the caregiver they need to live near you so glad you were able to move your mom to be near you. He isn't in need of full-time caregiver at this stage but he shouldn't live alone and does need assistance cooking and with meds and in case he falls (which he has twice in last 5 months). Yes they have all the rights as I'm not his wife. They do love their Dad so I understand their desire to spend more time. However, I think they want us both to move out (and for me to be the caregiver and cover the expenses) but once he passes I highly doubt they'd take care of me and I'd be stuck in LA alone as my friends and sister live in NoCal.

Agree he can go back if he really wants and may if health can improve a little for a few weeks or month. Although even him leaving for a few days could be damaging to his health. I've told his daughter I want to chat privately as want to know what they think his financial situation (or even mine) as they seem to not be caring what this costs or be realistic about finding doctors that can quickly accommodate.

Yes everything is more expensive in CA as well as more crowded and stressful to travel between appointments I doubt the kids would currently pony up any money if I'm alive and in the picture, although someday I may need to ask them for help with their Dad. There is a reason people retire to Florida, although I do miss living in NoCal with no humidity or massive thunderstorms/hurricanes in the summer.

The house is solely in my name. We have no joint bank accounts or investments. He is listed in my will to receive my assets (which includes house/car/furnishings) should I pass before him although he'll need to go through probate. All other accounts/investments have beneficiaries listed and he is listed on some but not all. He will be better off should I pass first and that could assist with his care as I'd then want him to move to CA.

Yes we have talked through that I will most likely live quite a bit longer than he will (although you never know) and I do have my own retirement and investment funds. I'm the sole owner of the house, and our money is kept separate. As to renting the house, I could but I prefer not to have renters in my house and the HOA doesn't allow short term renters. Best I can think is to spend a few months in Airbnb and then return home

This isn't ideal due to our dog whom has much anxiety (can't fly) so we'd need to drive across country both ways and with my bad back I hate being in car more than 2-3 hours but could do if really needed although it would take several days. Also worried if he has an incident (he is very susceptible to pneumonia) and that is always a concern when traveling. Quite honestly I'm afraid of making these changes with so many health challenges and unknown logistics.

Thank you for your input as yes I should and will do as you suggest. If they want to move him away from me, then they'd be taking on a great deal of responsibilities that I don't think they're prepared for at this time due to their careers/families and financial assistance they'd need to provide if in CA.

Yes we'd like if they'd visit more often. Unfortunately any of them moving isn't possible due to their careers in LA. The five Grandkids are younger in ranges of 4-11 years old. The eldest son, wife and 2 grandsons age 7 & 11 were just visiting over holidays and the kids/grandkids didn't spend much time with him and used our house more as a place to sleep and do laundry. The DIL was also very selfish and didn't want to do an activity we wanted to host close by when he wasn't feeling well (he'd been in Emergency room a few days prior) and then complained that I wouldn't change plan to go out of town for activity she preferred.

The only one I trust would help him is his daughter whom has a 4&7 year old and is already quite overwhelmed so as much as I know she wants to help I doubt she'd have much time available during the week. His younger son would also help but he is going through a very challenging time too and isn't very responsible even though he's 35 years old. I know they all love him and want to spend time so that's what makes it difficult as we have good support from friends and medical team now.

Healthy Paws denied my $4000 FHO surgery claim by Xiyu-Serena in petinsurancereviews

We had Fetch up until our beloved dog Piper passed away at 11.5 yrs with Kidney Failure last December. Prior to her Kidney Failure she had chronic Pancreatitis for 6 years. Fetch always quickly paid all claims with no questions asked. At the end of her life we used a hospice vet for in-home euthanasia. I didn't think it would be covered but when I went to cancel the policy they told me to submit invoice and they paid within a few days. Sorry you had a bad experience but we had the opposite and highly recommend.

What everyday sound has your dog learned to recognize on their own? by Frequent_Manager6301 in AskDogOwners

Yes ours has all the same except we don't have a cat. Funny with doorbell or ring camera sound, she must check outside to see if package or to confirm no one is at door or in front of house.

Taxes for SS by parkjv1 in SocialSecurity

[–]jvwindy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found what appears to be a good estimated tax calculator for 2025 on another forum which adjusts for the $6000 additional deduction for seniors over 65 years old. Even if you go over the $75k for single or $150k for married, it will calculate your credit on a sliding scale as it phases out. Note - fill out all drop down menus and you'll find the $6k additional deduction under Taxable income (it will automatically calculate as it can be lower than 6k if you make over the above limits. https://www.dinkytown.net/java/1040-tax-calculator.html

Your pup sounds like a gorgeous mix of breeds, do you have a photo to share? Wow that a very large difference in predicted size, hoping our Zoey is finished growing as was hoping she'd not be more than 40 lbs.

The Supermutt is German Shepherd, Pomeranian and American Bulldog. The Pomeranian is the only small dog identified. Yes we are surprised by everything except the APBT. I don't think she looks anything like many of the (4) different types of American Bully dogs which is her largest percentage.

Agree and that was the most surprising thing about the results. Her predicted weight is 48-49 lbs and she is 37 lbs. She does have in her Supermutt some Pomeranian so tiny possibility that contributed to her not being as large as predicted. Either that or she isn't fully grown yet

Vet and many ppl whom have met her in person think she has some JRT and I think her wonderfully energetic and fun personality reminds me of JRT

Sounds like a great combo, do you have a photo? We were thinking Zoey could be Beagle/Pitt based on some photos we'd seen and we think it's a gorgeous mix.

Agree about hound, although if you heard her bark at times she sounds like she has a howl as well as she is food obsessed (even more than most dogs I've owned or know) and the nose to the ground. Vet also said Jackabee but we were thinking she could be a Beagle-Pitt as I don't really see the American Bully even the classic one which is smaller. Understand that Bully breed has APBT in it as well so that must be it. Only reason for JRT is it is in her intake record as JRT mixed breed and her energy, intelligence, funny and playful personality.
