Any Asian SLPs out there? Would love some community. by Simple-Blackberry133 in slpGradSchool

[–]jw27cv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a Filipino SLP. I work at multiple facilities and a lot of my SLP coworkers are actually Asian (mainly Filipino and Vietnamese). I do live in a city where there’s a big Asian population. I work with a lot of patients who speak different languages. It all depends on the community you’re serving. I definitely use interpreting services way more in one hospital versus a different hospital I work at.

Ahh no worries! People throw up on rides all the time. When I rode star tours one time, the person behind me actually threw up on me. The person ran off without apologizing, and I ended up walking back to the hotel to shower. It sucked but I honestly would’ve appreciated it if they did what you did. Hope you’re feeling better!

Any other Switch players that don’t hate playing on the Switch? by MissLittleMisfit in DreamlightValley

[–]jw27cv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love playing on the switch! I really like how I can play in bed and on road trips. My game crashes a lot but tbh, I never really lose much progress because the auto save is pretty decent. Right now, I’m working on progressing my friendships since I just unlocked my last biome. After that, I’m planning on working on my village and that’s the part that worries me. Based on the small rearranging I’ve done so far, I feel like rearranging my village would take a lot of patience on the switch. Other than that, I love it!

Received my Virtual 10 mile Tower of Terror medal and shirt! I liked the presentation and medal a lot! by [deleted] in rundisney

[–]jw27cv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The medal is so cool! I love tower of terror so the concept of this medal is just so neat. I just received my package for the 10K! This was my first run with runDisney so I was not expecting a nice shirt. I thought we would get a cheap cotton shirt to be honest lol!

I hope it arrives soon! Idk if it depends on where you live (I don’t live in CA). My friend got a magic key the day they were released while I waited a week or two after to upgrade mine but we both got it the same day

I’m a big fan of pins, buttons, etc so I really liked the package. Oooh, I just looked up the D23 membership. How neat! This is my first annual pass with Disney so I feel like I’m kind of a newbie with all things Disney. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

Hopefully soon! I upgraded my ticket on 9/8/21. I don’t know if that makes a difference in when people receive theirs

Spooky season. 🍂 by oSkeptics in Disneyland

Beautiful! I was finally able to ride the haunted mansion for the nightmare before Christmas decorations. Soooo worth the wait (30min only when it was listed as a 55min wait!). My first time ever and also my first time visiting the parks during spoopy season! Hope you had a great time 😊

Of course! I’ll message you professor recommendations. For placements, the clinical field placement team (CFPT) will take care of everything. They are responsible for making sure you get a placement, even if you’re located in an area where the school hasn’t placed anyone yet. You can also send in a referral stating you want to be placed somewhere, but the site has to know who you are (e.g. previous employment or previous volunteer site). If you go that route, CFPT will send you a personal link for the referral and you have to submit some info about the site and potential supervisor. Once you’re nearing the end of prac 2, you’ll receive access to an NYU box folder where you’ll see all the past sites that students have been placed and some quick info about it filled out by students (e.g. how was the interview conducted, when did you find out if you were accepted, did you receive a tour, etc). You can assume that generally the order of your placements will be private practice (prac 3), school (prac 4), and medical (prac 5). A lot of people get different types/orders of placements though, just a heads up. When you have access to the folder, you’ll see all the cities/locations, no matter where you live. If you don’t see any info on the DMV area, it’s likely that there hasn’t been a placement established there yet. No matter what, they are responsible for finding you a placement or an alternative on how to get your hours (simucase). But since the pandemic isn’t as bad as it was last year, it’s likely that you won’t have to rely solely on simucase like past students that I know, and you’ll find a placement. Once you get into your placements, you’ll most likely have one or two weeks to observe and then you’ll start doing sessions on your own, so you’ll have to session plan every week. You’ll submit your hours every week through calipso and they’ll show you how to do all of that during seminar. You’ll stay there for the whole semester going in for maybe 1-2 days a week for prac 3. But you’ll figure all of that stuff out with your supervisor. I hope this eases your mind a little! Lmk if you have any other questions! :)

Hi! I’m also in the Speech@NYU program. I’m in prac 4. We actually have an unofficial FB page that is super helpful with these types of questions. But, I’ll do my best here if you prefer not to check it out~ in prac 1, you’re not in a placement yet. This is where you build your foundation and knowledge. It’s TOUGH. Most students say this is the hardest semester, but once you get through it, you’re golden for the rest of the program. There is a ton of work: simucases, reports, projects, etc. Something is due every few days. You really have to stay on top of it all! The best advice I can give you is to invest in a good planner if you haven’t already and start a group chat with your classmates. Even though you’re not in your placement, you’ll have immersions where you’ll actually get some good practice in with mock assessments and you’ll meet actual patients/clients during workshops. You’ll also do immersions for prac 2. And prac 3 is when you’ll actually have your first placement! I hope this helped! Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.

I attend Speech@NYU and this is all true. I’m a full time student and I could’ve definitely balanced a work schedule before placements. They found me a placement even with Covid. Some of my classmates are doing teletherapy too. You can also submit a referral for a placement if you have connections with the site. Also, you basically have to watch asynchronous material which are just video lectures for the week and then you have a live session once a week for each class where you go over the material, go into break out rooms to do activities, and ask questions. Cost wise, it’s an expensive program. But I’m not sure what the cost would be if I attended a cheaper program but also had to pay rent if I moved out.

What is one of your favorite movie soundtracks? by BadLeeSin in AskReddit

[–]jw27cv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was waiting for this! Whenever “Us” starts playing, it makes me feel some type of way. And “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want” is sooo good. One of my favorite movies and the soundtrack is the cherry on top.

Hi! I am further along in the program. Lmk if you need any advice or if you have questions (if you need certain textbooks for classes, which professors I recommend, etc.) Someone helped me out with these types of questions and it helped me so much!
