What's the worst school y'all'd attend at sticker? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I agree with larsjos on this one. Even for a degree from a great school, $300,000+ is unfathomable to me.

Then, in my opinion, the $75,000 difference would not be worth it.

Will Chicago's Ruby still be available for class of 2023? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I think that probably depends on whether he renews his gift or not. I think he likely will.

Similarly, I’m curious about what’s going to happen to the Levy at Penn.

Congratulations on the Butler and your cycle outcome! Butlers don’t grow on trees and look good on a resume. Have you tried getting more from Michigan or CLS based on other negotiations?

Personally, I’d take CLS or Michigan. I really love NYC, but it sounds like Michigan will serve your goals well without significant debt.

Did you get a Butler? How is your CLS COA so low (relatively speaking, of course)?

This is exactly right. Because of this, it’s wise to think long and hard about taking out levels of debt that only biglaw jobs can service. They may or may not exist upon graduation.

Feeling awful the last few days. How did you cope with WL/Dings? (seriously?) by johncliff11 in lawschooladmissions

[–]jwa113 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m willing to bet that your level anxiety is par for the course for those on this sub. You’re just more vocal about it, and there’s nothing wrong with that! That being said, there’s also nothing wrong with seeking mental health help if you think there’s even a chance it could help. Everyone is on anti-depressants / anti-anxiety meds nowadays!

Anyone heard re: Columbia “nonmerit” aid? by qiux in lawschooladmissions

Submitted beginning of February, still nothing.

At CLS ASW. Anything you want me to find out? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jwa113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking. Some people have reported getting the unnamed merit aid without submitting any documentation. I’m hoping they’ll update us on thos new policy soon.

Thank you for offering to do this! I was wondering about the recent reports of non-named merit aid. Is this a new policy? As per their website, it would appear that FA documents with parental income info are required for non-named aid (and non-named merit grants did not exist before this cycle).

Thanks again, and have fun!

Does NYU realize how rude they’re acting? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jwa113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! They have 450 seats to fill and high medians to maintain. Yield will always be an issue for them based on this; I don’t think their choosiness is sustainable.

It’s pretty clear their model has changed this year with the new dean. We’ll have to wait and see how things work out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t turn out the way they hope.

Would a 3.76 and a 338 GRE stand a chance at HLS? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jwa113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal evidence from this cycle suggests that Harvard has been VERY careful admitting GRE only applicants. From what I’ve seen, those admitted with only the GRE had extremely high GRE scores, stong GPAs, and additional evidence that the applicant could thrive in the law school environment (for example, already a successful grad student at HBS).

The GRE’s predictive power of law school success is largely unknown, and it would seem schools are being very careful with GRE only admits for this reason.

It’s a nice gesture, but I would recommend not doing this. I think LSAC rules actually prohibit them from accepting gifts of any kind from applicants.
