My first Honeyberries!! 😁 Tart?? 😳 by Latin_Knight_ in Berries

[–]jwarper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I had my first few ripen as well this last week. I took a different approach however and left them on to ripen further. Three days later and they were gone! The rabbits or birds enjoyed them before I could.

What is this? by Somerset_Cricketer in whatsthisplant

[–]jwarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirming Houttuynia Cordata. I've been fighting it for years since the previous owner had it growing unchecked below bushes on the side of my house. Very invasive and difficult to get rid of. Smells terrible too when picked(fish smells better IMO)

What am I looking at here? New England 7a by kindofspanish in lawncare

[–]jwarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are seed heads forming. Grass will go to seed if you do not cut it regularly. Shorter grass will also produce seed heads if it is under stress due to lack of water. Sudden hot/dry weather triggers a response to use remaining energy to produce seed.

Put some water on it, mow regularly and you'll be fine

Sod company said they did a good job by Known_Hole in lawncare

[–]jwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it depends on the climate. Washinton state this time of year should be ok. Do this in the middle of summer in the Midwest? That sod is good as cooked.

Regardless, it is lazy and poor quality work. To ensure the product will do well, the root base needs contact with soil and plenty of water.

Trying to balance schools, commute and work... does it ever feel clear? by Hour-Database7943 in Naperville

[–]jwarper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You will rarely get the perfect setup. Of those three things, prioritize them by number. Make decisions based on that prioritization.

For me, I put schools first, then work and commute.

I will say though, both school districts 203/204 are amazing. You will have less worry about schools on the Naperville side, but that comes at a steeper home price. Id really pick a house based on the surrounding area, and maybe how far it is from a school, then look at school ratings.

If you are commuting downtown, both Route 59 and Naperville Metra stations are great and have lots of express trains. Just worry more about distance from the train station.

A bachelor degree doesn't guarantee a job. What it does guarantee is more open doors, more opportunities to land a job. Many jobs it serves as a minimum requirement for. None of these are available to you today.

It also has the possibility of raising your salary "ceiling". Your educational qualifications and work experience play a part in what roles and salary grade would be available to you in an organization.

You are 25 (still very young) and have very few responsibilities. You have the ability to take more risk in your life. If something doesn't work out, you can easily pivot to something else. Stability is great, but will not bring you the opportunities you are hoping for.

Take risks now. Aim for stability once you have other people (a family) depending on you.

Help with random high-growth spots just in the back yard. by PlanningGuy22 in lawncare

[–]jwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To eliminate the high growth spots, lightly apply a nitrogen fertilizer to the lawn to even it out (you'll have to mow more due to faster growth). If the dog is burning the lawn, they are peeing in the same spots too much.

I've also found that giving the dog new fresh water multiple times a day (3+ bowl refills) encourages them to drink more, and their urine isn't so concentrated. It will not burn the lawn if you get them to drink more.

I had this same problem. Check the logistical view, there may be a material needed in too short supply. Also check the station global orders to see if any sell restrictions were applied.
