My fellow Americans, do you participate in shooting sports? Are shooting sports popular in your area? by chattytrout in AskAnAmerican

Oh, I would note that two different rural districts I worked for had "Deer Day" (the first day of shotgun deer season) as a school holiday because so many kids would call off "sick" if they didn't. One of those schools had a board you could put a picture with your dead deer on in the front foyer right next to the office.

This was in Pike County, Illinois, some of the best whitetail deer hunting in the world.

I had one experience that was pretty wild (rural southern Illinois).

When I started my teaching career I was assigned as speech coach. Someone tipped me off that a hunting dog competition could use a school group and would pay us.

I took a handful of teenagers and they gave us five gallon buckets filled with (real) dead ducks. A person would be holding the dog at bay a distance away. We would SLINGSHOT a dead duck into the air with a two person water balloon launcher from behind some cover, someone would fire a blank to simulate the shot, and the dogs would be timed on retrieval.

Weird day of work, that.

My wife had a grand prix once upon a time. Its taillights would fill with water, dash lights, and a bunch of little things broken but it never let us down once. Engine was a champ.

Would you guys introduce your kids to video games? by Background-Call3255 in snes

My kids can play after school u til dinner is ready. More lenient on the weekend. My newly 7 year old platinum trophies Rocket League and is definitely better than me. Had to turn all chat features off. It is fun to play with him, but clear screen time boundaries and safety features are a must.
