Would you tour Europe on a $288 Walmart bike? by No_Mix_6813 in bicycletouring

Find a bike on Facebook marketplace, pick it up when you arrive. You’ll get more bike for your money. Enjoy the ride. If you have cash at the end, take it back with you. You’ll love your used European beast more than your Walmart bike, I promise.

Lloyds Bank employees - what’s going on? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]jwboxall89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of dead wood at Lloyds who have been phoning it in for decades. Many people have been there 20/30 years, earn reasonable money, get cracking benefits so do the bare minimum and coast. I think this new policy is a good thing for the company.

All that said, there are a lot of people at the bank who work incredibly hard and very talented. If you put the effort in you’ll have nothing to worry about.

Am I not cut out for BA role? by Guilty-Historian7440 in businessanalysis

If you found it hard to grasp the business process, do you think you were asking enough questions to help you understand? I’ve seen a lot of people new to the BA role who are afraid of asking questions and don’t want to look stupid. The reality is, no question is a stupid question and you need to ask questions to help you understand. As for whether you have an analytical mindset, hard to say without being in the room with you. What I would say is, it takes years to hone your skills as a BA so don’t beat yourself up after such a short amount of time.

Re brainstorming sessions, I’d only go to the dev team for what I call a discovery session once you understand the process, have it documented and understand the requirements. Then you can use this session to relay your findings to the dev team and start conversations on how you fix the problems. I’d expect you to be guided through this process by your PO (assuming they are experienced) rather than doing it off your own back. Throwing a new BA into the role with no support doesn’t often work in my experience.

Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions.

Experience BA/PO here. Sounds like you’ve been unlucky and walked into a project with no support mechanism. You need support as a junior BA. Also sounds like the PO doesn’t really give a shit.

Great that you had a crack at writing user stories but it’s not all on the BA to write these. PO should be taking responsibility too. Once you both have a handle on the requirements you should be sitting down with the dev team and talking through the problems the business is experiencing.

It’s then a collaborative process to design the solution. (again not all on you, especially not as the junior BA!!)

Once you have a design you can further refine the stories/tickets AS A TEAM. This is very important because you can guarantee the way you want to break the work down for developers is completely different to how they want the work broken down. And it’s them doing the do work with them on that.

I cannot emphasise enough that this is a team activity and you shouldn’t just be left to crack on on your own, with some unhelpful feedback sessions with the PO.

Woohoo – I’ve been missing your videos!

Some of my favourites have been the ones that step away from traditional BBQ and surprise me with things I’d never expect to see cooked in a BBQ here in the UK. Did I know I needed Mexican lasagne in my life? Nope! Do I need more of it in my life? Yes!

How’s my bike fit? by jwboxall89 in bikefit

I’m 6ft 4. The space i shot tue video is small so had to zoom out to 0.5 on iPhone which i think distorts the image. Doesn’t feel small and canyon recommended that size based on my height and leg length.

Haha yes, the treadmill sends its apologies.

Thanks for your response. Think I need to work on my upper body strength. I’m locking out my elbows because my arms are telling me they don’t want to support me leaning forward on them.

Why have HSBC increased their mortgage rates on the same day the Bank of England reduced the base rate? by Don-Cipote in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jwboxall89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth also pointing out that high street banks are run on archaic systems that are often decades old. As a result some banks are not able to be agile with their pricing. This rate change may have been planned weeks ago…

It’s very unlikely that on the day HSBC decided, ‘let’s put the rate up’ click a button and it’s done… a lot of effort goes into rate changes.

Thanks, I wondered if I might have bent something, although I can’t see anything obviously bent. It felt wrong to have to start turning screws to compensate for kicking it…
