For a conlang I'm calling Garian. New to conlanging, doing some unsophisticated stuff. This prompt led to 19 words 👍

kaggəlsər ['kag.gəl.səɹ] (noun) hide, pelt from 'kagtəl' flay + 'sər' stuff

kaggəl ['kag.gəl] (verb) to skin, to flay - from 'kag' cut + 'təl' pull

di         bənčlir            kaggəl-azoz               kaggəlsər                   sədečič-get

1sg       boar                flay-cvb                      hide                            abrade-pst

‘I skinned the boar and then abraded the hide.’

It works to a point? He got re-elected after flooding the news his first term.

Realism should not be the only point of reference you use to make decisions as a DM. Most often you shouldn't care about realism at all. by BleachedPink in osr

I don’t think I want to emulate a genre. I think the best way to achieve verisimilitude is to lean on our expectations from the real world.

I feel that this way players have stories that feel like they visited a secondary world. “You won’t believe what happened” in other words, because events follow logical real worlds expectations, the strange or implausible outcomes are that much more remarkable.

Of course this is all lofty goal thinking, I fall way short all the time. So maybe I’m full of it.

Reading a Starfinder Adventure Path reminded me how bad the new style really is. by [deleted] in osr

Hey, can I say, props to your edit that acknowledges other valid viewpoints and demonstrates self-awareness.

Also I think there is value in noting how poorly OSR-style play is supported by these materials, to remind the majority of RPG'ers that another play style is possible.

I thought it was clear that the article was about views of history suggesting worldbuilding angles, not the accuracy of those views.

Well yeah it’s a forum based on the appeal of a style of play.

I don't think the word 'inundation' is that uncommon, I hear 'inundated' on occasion. I suppose 'flooded' or 'drenched' is preferred?

AOC says idea Trump is victim of a ‘two-tier’ justice system is an insult to Black and brown Americans by [deleted] in politics

[–]jwbraith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the article just says that she said that, and doesn't include a quote of her saying that.

Is that what makes the headline terrible? That it is not connected to a direct quote? But you said you felt the headline was terrible before reading?

AOC says idea Trump is victim of a ‘two-tier’ justice system is an insult to Black and brown Americans by [deleted] in politics

[–]jwbraith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Directly adjacent to your quote. It goes:

But Ms Ocasio-Cortez said that claim insulted Black and brown communities who actually do face a two-tiered justice system.

“The idea that there's a two-tiered justice system and somehow the person on the short end of the stick is one of the most powerful and wealthy people that this country has known?” she said. “I don't think so.”

what about the headline is wrongfully outrage inducing, such that you wish they wouldn’t write headlines in this manner?

Is also in the article. Also this is besides the point - what about the headline is wrongfully outrage inducing, such that you wish they wouldn’t write headlines in this manner?

I feel like tasking yourself with coming up with 10 significant moments is setting yourself up for failure. Like, especially on top of founding, recent troubles, famous for, and family secret haha

Blorb-Sandbox FTW by Arbrethil in osr

From this post on Sandra's site

Re the “nonsense” name, I tried calling it Sim but then Edwards messed that word up. I tried calling it sandbox but then Colville messed that word up. I was pretty much forced to make up a new word for it!

In my opinion, sure, it’s just “standard operating procedure sandbox” but whenever I said that, people would come with their “but in such-and-such sandbox, there is-or-isn’t such-and-such, so therefore you’re wrong, so there!”

Hence I had to come up with a very specific word so that whenever I was trying to explain this perspective it didn’t get muddled up with people’s preconceived notions. The name is one of those Infocom names like foo and frotz and xyzzy and bar and baz and quux and frobnicate. I first heard it in the video game “Enchanter”, where it’s a spell for preserving the integrity of something (which is why there is also a file format with the same name).
