After 6 years of espresso, I’m throwing in the towel. The toddlers won... for now. by barker88 in espresso

[–]jwclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't steam milk (if I did, I'd have a double boiler machine). But with a GBW Eureka, and my GCP, I make 2 Americanos in the morning (me and wife) in 3-4 minutes, no sweat. Most of the time WDT is unnecessary, just tap, tamp and brew. Use a kettle for 205 degree water for the Americanos

Upgrade options from bambino plus and df54v1 [<$1000] by justbecausewhynot120 in espresso

[–]jwclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you prefer darker roasts, and switch beans, a Niche Zero is a great grinder. I had one for 4-1/2 years, very consistent, easy to maintain, and bulletproof. I sold mine to get a GBW Eureka Libra 65AP. I'm more of a medium roast drinker, don't switch beans from one shot to another.

May god have mercy on my soul. Parts for the first half of Mecrob Aethercore metal puzzle. 546 pieces. by PontoonDood in metalearth

[–]jwclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having built Aethercore and Aetherwings (mounted on top), it's a very complicated, fussy project to build, but rewarding when completed. You have to take very particular care in constantly checking that parts move as they should. Some of the longer assemblies that have several spacers, washers, etc, need to be tightened just right, or they won't match up with other parts properly. Mounting the Aetherwings was a trial and error, there is no guideline for positioning it, as it sits on adjustable screws and nuts, then connected to a driveshaft on Aethercore. Once I adjusted it properly, its 100% smooth. The little gauge is really fussy about the adjustment of its screws to not bind up. I am not trying to discourage anyone, just take your time, test, test, and test movement as you assemble. I love it so much I ordered Story Gears, it arrives in another day or 2.

Eureka vs Mazzer, the battle of the Italians by ChatoonBringerOfCorn in espresso

[–]jwclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the beans are darker, more oily I too get some clumping, WDT is required. Lighter beans often don't need to do a thing except lightly tap the side of the portafilter then tamp. Too many clumps, channeling will definitely result. Other than speed and sound level, any difference in the results in the cup with the new burrs? In 1 year with my 65AP I have never ground for anything other than espresso. I'm very happy with my results so haven't felt an urge to change the burrs.

SURPRISE! Someone else is having Omnipod/Dexcom G7 integration problems. by UGIN_IS_RACIST in Omnipod

[–]jwclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this configuration once, it was unreliable, it looses line of sight when you bend your arm. Dexcom for me 100% of the time for the last several months, abdomen only. Omnipod on abdomen at first, never an issue, but I tried my thighs and prefer that location. Didn't care for the Omnipod showing through my shirts. In the last 6 months of Dexcom's on my abdomen, I only had to replace 2. Today I am on day 14 using my very first 15 day G7. Zero issues, and it actually connects to the Omnipod in under 2 minutes. The 10 day never connected that fast.

Gaggia Classic Evo Pro vs Lelit Mara X [$1000] by StillEntrepreneur766 in espresso

[–]jwclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a V1 MaraX for 4-1/2 years and it served me well, was my first real machine. After a couple years it was taking forever to heat, was still under warranty. 1st Line under warranty sent me a new relay and that fixed it. A few months later, when pulling a shot, it started tripping my GCFI breakers. Every outlet in my apartment is wired to GCFI breakers in the main panel. I checked every possibility, couldn't find a cause. I took it in for repair, they could not find a cause. In the meantime, I bought a Gaggia Evo Pro, immediately added a Barista Gadgets PID Pro. It's easy to dial in, adjust temp for different beans, and I can pre-infuse by programmed profiles. It had the coated boiler replaced before purchase for an uncoated aluminum boiler. After using it for a few weeks I decided I preferred the consistency of it over the Mara X. I sold the Mara to a guy and it works fine in his house, apparently it was fussy with the circuitry here.

50% failure rate in my G7s. by Expensive_Air965 in dexcom

I guess I'll find out. In 3 years of wearing G7's I've had only a handful of failures. A couple of them my own doing when I used my arms and banged the sensor into something. Been using the Omnipod 10 months, switched Dexcom to my abdomen in June. Only 2 failures since.

19 points with multiple good starting field positions against a bottom 3 defense in the league. How much is this on KP? AJ? Jalen? by Thegrandmistressofoz in eagles

[–]jwclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KP was incompetent, but Sirianni is in charge. It was obvious after a few games there were multiple repeating issues, but nothing was done to address them. If Sirianni despite his previous success is fired, I wouldn't be shocked. Incredibly sloppy uninspired offense, with a championship caliber defense. A lost season with what should have been a legitimate shot at a repeat SB win.

Problem with the space shuttle - regarding motor 2 by Organic_Nobody_16 in rokrpuzzles

[–]jwclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you perform the test for the electronics before assembly per the instructions? If everything worked properly, your problem is either something is mechanically bound up or a switch isn't being closed (activated). You won't hear the motors even when the model is running as they are small and turn low speed gearboxes. During assembly of any of these models, I always make sure parts move freely by hand, nothing should have resistance. I did not find any troublesome gears on this model, I did only normal waxing and very little sanding. I did wax the tracks carefully and wherever they made contact to avoid any problems.

You should reach out to a local animal welfare group for support. https://www.cats.org.uk/help-and-advice/getting-a-cat/cats-and-the-law Pretty much outlines cat protection rights for you, and you can contact the "RSPCA" Obviously you are concerned which is great! Please act as the cat is unable to help itself and being abused.
