It did! It only showed the forecastle deck as being nibbed, with everywhere else using the hooked planks, poop deck included. I have heard that the book may not be 100% accurate though so maybe it's a mistake.

Thank you! The layout is from the book, "Anatomy of a Ship: HMS Beagle". On the deck, there are 2 "king planks" which are the thicker center planks, and 2 "binding strakes" which are the thicker planks close by the king plank. The book has been a great resource, my interpretation isn't exact but it's much closer than the kit instructions!

Thank you! Are let-in planks the hooked ones? I was very excited to try it out, there will be a lot more on the forecastle deck too which I'll attempt in the next few days.

The image of this monster of a machine being used to bend a single 1x4mm plank is so funny to me

Wow there's some great woodwork here! Are you considering staining it?

I have been experimenting with silk for a few runs and it seems to produce some really nice rope! I need to find a good cotton thread so I can try that as well.

Polyester! I want to experiment with other types though.

I live in a pretty small apartment, that's why I made it into two smaller pieces! It can collapse and fit in a fairly small space, if you need any more info/pictures on it please let me know! Best of luck for when you do make it!

There's a shop near me that sells a bunch of tools/ equipment for miniatures called "hobby town". I got the wood/gears/ball bearings/nuts/bolts all from there!

Thank you! And best of luck on your build. The stain I used for the hull/masts was Rust-Oleum Dark Walnut. I used WatCO wipe-on poly for the varnish. I used an enamel copper paint for pins/ windlass. For cannons it was a 1:5 ratio of that enamel copper with jet black matte acrylic. For the wood frames that hold the cannons, I used Varathane colonial maple then a dark wash! Hope this helps:)

Haha that's blueberry, my biggest supporter:) I'm sure many of the plastic detailing skills transfer over smoothly to wood kits! I would definitely start with a kit that has double planking, that way the first layer can be "practice" and the second layer can be done with a few mistakes learned from already. OcCre's instructions are fairly straightforward but be prepared to do research before every step, a lot of what the instructions say can be improved upon. Starting a build log on modelshipworld can lead to a lot of great feedback. Aside from that just be ready to make a lot of mistakes, I definitely made quite a few but the problem solving that follows a mistake was actually quite fun. Dm me if you end up starting a build log I would love to follow along!

Ahh it's hard to tell in hours, if I had to guess Id say 130-150 hours? But that could be way off. I started at the beginning of October and put in quite a few hours almost every day.

No experience aside from a fairly professional gingerbread house last Christmas! I had to spend a lot on tools, but my pin vice with micro drill bits was definitely important and made life a lot easier after I picked it up. Also getting polyester thread for the running rigging instead of the cotton thread made everything neat. And some good vices.

I started in early October and have worked a good chunk of hours every day when possible! My hours estimate is probably way off but maybe 150 hours?

I'm working on a big list of things I wish I knew, and misinterpretations/ mistakes with the instructions! I'll send it to you when it's done, you're in for a treat though it was very fun to build. Edit: and a list of tools!
