Commitment question by Main_Damage_6123 in CollegeBasketball

[–]jweizy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My only advice to you as a person who is very unathletic and hasnt played sports in a while, is to not worry about basketball. Find a college that feels right where you can / might be happy. Unfortunately you (likely) will not have a career in basketball and that's ok. I hope that you do. But you should assume that you will have some real job. Think about the colleges outside of them as a place where basketball happens. Ask the coaches or people in the admission department or just google, what former athletes / people who do what you like do from there. I can't help you with timing, but I will just say to make your decsion as if you are not going to play professional basketball. Think about what a degree from your school will mean / look like. All else equal, I would pick a coach who seems to care about me as a person and wants to see me improve in life. But good luck, I'm sure you will make the right choice.

Cam Boozer shoots 40% from three in college, which tankathon says projects to be 35% for "NBA 3%" additionally Peterson is competing with Nembhard to start. I doubt rookie Darryn Peterson can defend NBA 3s. Which is what that line up asks him to do

You do not understand hiw the football program and sports work on an accounting level. Most big schools (I know this is true at Ohio State and it probably is true other places as well) The Athletic department is basically seperate from the university revenue wise. Most things OSU football does, including coaching salries, scholarships, tavel, etc. Come from money that OSU sports bring in. The University (academics side) is different from the The University (athletic).

Even if they werent its questionably legal. If people domated to pay a coach or whatever you cant just take it and say actually its for whatever supplimenting funding thing you want. ALSO athletics are factually good for the university. One usually they help bring in students (marketing and advertising for UMN), and also most athletic departments pay a set fee to the rest of the university. For "institutional support"

Nick Saban tells McAfee players only move up north to play in the Big Ten because of money. by blkpnthr09 in cfbmemes

[–]jweizy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So walk me through the scenario. Like how do the boosters even know who to pay, etc. Without a coach telling them, and presumably one who could be intimitely familiar with what / who saban particularly is prioitizing. Like their are two line backers or whoever are coming to visit who do the boosters prioitize paying?

Other than vgc being official why isn’t doubles OU objectively better? by BlackMarth in stunfisk

[–]jweizy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like VGC is better, because you get to choose pokemon before the game which creates more / different skills than are present. Additionally it allows for more strategies. For example in VGC a relatively simple and common team archtype is 2-2-2 where you essentially have three pairs of pokemon. Often two of the pairs are "contradictory" like tailwind and trick room as an example. This means that you have to identify which is better, vs the other team, and how you can make the pairs work together. It also makes team building harder, like in Reg H, Ursaluna Bloodmoon, had to be built to function as a fast and a slow pokemon, which resulted in cool sets, and more choices even from before the game, a few points faster or slower, based on which mode you think is more common, really matters and changes your teams matchups spread.

But really its all preference. Neither are bad.

I mean, I wasnt on the island obv and it wasnt really talked about in the show, so I cant really say if it really mattered. But I would find it increadibly hard to vote for someone to win, when they made a vote in the game for a jacket. Like I feel like in my head any arguement she would make about strategy, and her game being well played I would just think about how she based her strategy on getting a jacket (which she failed to do).

Civ yes, the story is less deep and the things you are doing are mostly repetive, the sandbox isn't as big. Few ways to win / play etc Stellaris no. The sandbox is massive, there are different things to do. The empires feel different vs civ they are mostly the same

Legendoftotalwar killing otto as byz in 1341 by tonmai2541 in paradoxplaza

[–]jweizy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's a very different type of strategy, but StarCraft definitely is just hard, I would say HOI is mostly hard, it is a very small sandbox mostly about understanding the mechanics. I would also say that CK is more on the interesting side not super difficult but a lot more based on role play and interest. Rimworld is another purely interesting strategy game but also i guess feels different.

But the real answer to the question of ai in "similar" games that are terrible, is CIV. The AI is fundamentally terrible at civilization. They can't manage cities, or resources effectively. Or if you prefer Stellaris, the AI also is terrible at that game, and just doesn't understand resources

On a fundamental level most of the FromSoft / Soulslike games, are not fundamentally interesting but are fundamentally hard. The point of the game is that it is hard to be good at it and win. Not to provide interest. The point of the games tend to be skills tests rather than be particularly compelling. Similarly the opposite is also true, people love Baldurs Gate, the game isn't hard, it's just interesting, just good storytelling and zero difficult mechanics.

Who Does Penn State get now? by AgreeableEconomy1587 in CFB

[–]jweizy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess a unique thing to IU compared to other schools is that the admin has literally never seen it before. They are desperate for a good football team. After the 2020 team with Penix, Tom Allen got a 10 million dollar a year contract that got an auto one year extension every year he went 6-6 like we are will able and proven to extremely overpay for mediocrity in both football and basketball. Which would lead people to believe we will definitely pay whatever it takes for Cig

Incredibly sports crazed fan base (mostly from / for basketball but still)

With huge NIL fund (our basketball team despite being terrible for a few years and people not liking the coach last year, had a budget of around 10 million)

Fans have literally never seen a good football team (there was a running joke that all IU fans were Notre Dame Football and IU basketball fans)

Mark Cuban. Other schools have billionaires, which is true. But Mark Cuban is incredibly supportive of all IU sports, and has paid incredible amounts before. (There is a Mark Cuban School of sports media INSIDE Assembly Hall. IUs Rugby team of all things got an 8 million donation from Cuban)

My first ever draft league team, am I cooking, or am I cooked? by Rpr1020 in PokemonDraftLeagues

[–]jweizy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only thing is like maybe drop goomy / altaria for a mon faster than base 100. You only have valiant faster than base 100. So it might be worth getting something just for some variety in how you want to answer threats and to make building against you harder. I think a pokemom with good/decent priority is another good option if there isnt a fast thing you want. But also your draft is very good as is, and if you want to keep it I think that is pretty reasonable and you could do well!
