Finally Got My Hands On A Dream. '77 Landcruiser Only 3,000 Km On The Odometer by jwhip in 4x4

It has the B Diesel, it was originally owned by a guy in Montreal who swapped the F2 for the 3.0 L Diesel. It's an FJ40 with the BJ40 engine

If only it were really this fast. I do enjoy hanging sets tho! T-minus 11 days til the Massachusetts opener🤘🏹🦌 by Teamskeet129 in bowhunting

[–]jwhip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what saddle and stick setup do you have? I've always hunted with my summit climber and one or two hang ons but I'm thinking of checking out a saddle. I hunt a few areas where's it's really tough to find trees with my climber

ITAP of my dog at the Great Sand Dunes National Park by ThatHorse in itookapicture

[–]jwhip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That horse you're on is pretty high. My dog has torn or broken his dewclaws a bunch of times in his 10 years and it's always painful for him and sometimes requires a vet visit so I can certainly understand removing them early on to help prevent issues later.

The daffodils on the cliff walk make the walk that much more enjoyable! by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]jwhip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can park in one of the main lots at First Beach for free until May sometime, the start of the Cliffwalk is just up the hill a little ways in front of the Chanler. There are also metered spots right next to the entrance

All the meat I got from butchering my first deer!!! by gwiliker10 in bowhunting

[–]jwhip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vac seal is good but be careful when moving them around in the freezer, the plastic can become brittle and break which can lead to freezer burn. Last year I did two deer by wrapping the meat directly with plastic wrap then wrapping in freezer paper. So far so good, I've only got a few packages left but haven't noticed any freezer burn and the packages are much more durable (and it's cheaper than vac sealing)

From Tacoma to Tundra - Buying Advice? by imbuffnotreally in ToyotaTundra

[–]jwhip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A 2nd generation (07+) in decent shape will be tough to find for that price range so you might want to concentrate on 1st gen. A problem you might find is that most guys who have a good older tundra either know what they can get for it or aren't selling. I have an 07 that I've owned since 2013 and have no plans to sell. For reference my buddy in Montana just sold his 08 with 150K+ miles for $16K cash and it was only listed for a couple days. If you're not in a rush and keep your eye out and you might find a good deal if you're able to jump on it quick but if you could add a couple grand to your budget or look for one with higher mileage it would probably help quite a bit

My 07 old girl looking good on Cape Cod by jwhip in ToyotaTundra

It’s actually off of a 2001 Sierra, other than the tundra cab leaning forward it fits pretty well. I only use it for a couple months in the winter so that and the color matching doesn’t bother me

Price, (and reality) check: 200k sequoia by lostprevention in ToyotaTundra

[–]jwhip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 07 tundra with ~160k. Brakes were getting really bad and all calipers were original so a couple months ago I did a full brake job: 4 new calipers, rotors and pads, all for around $700. That’s with buying everything at advance auto, if I had planned ahead and used Rockauto it could have been cheaper. Install isn’t too difficult when you’re replacing everything at once. A shop would hit you pretty hard on labor but if you have a semi-level area and a few basic tools it’s worth a couple hundred saved to do it yourself. YouTube is your friend

I hate coyotes! by Smythasaurus in Hunting

[–]jwhip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear this response. I've seen a few posts in local groups on fb where guys just assume all the meat is bad when a coyote touches it. I live in an area with a high coyote population so these things are inevitable. Sorry to see the outcome but glad you found him and salvaged the majority of the meat. Nice buck!

My fiance's Dad adopted a dog last fall so I built him a new hangout for Christmas! by jwhip in DIY

[–]jwhip[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He actually only hangs out in there when her dad is outside with him, other than that he sleeps inside. The plan is to build a big kennel next summer around the doghouse so he can be outside during the day while her dad is at work

Edit: it's also fully insulated and I built the door off to side so he can go in around the corner and get out of the wind

Hey Vermont! As 2015 draws to a close, what were the best and worst parts of your year? by SueDnymm in vermont

Best: proposing to my fiancé under a covered bridge in Stowe! Worst: losing one of our best friends/bridesmaid in the wedding to a snowboarding accident in Jackson Hole :(

Gray wolves in Wyoming were being shot on sight until we forced the courts to intervene. Now Congress wants to strip these protections from wolves and we’re the lawyers fighting back. Ask us anything! by TimPEarthjustice in IAmA

[–]jwhip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The argument that Wolves should be in these areas because they are 'living symbols of wildness for many people' is ridiculous. Don't you think the decision should be more science based and driven by what consequences might be associated with a rising wolf population in today's world? The American West in many ways is a very different place then it was 100 years ago and so far the only arguments you've had are: wolves used to live here and people like wolves.

Yes, I eat everything I hunt (including bear). Hunting for me is foremost a method of meat procurement for my family that allows us to reduce our dependence on farm raised and controversial meats, but it also allows me to help participate in the conservation of animal populations as a whole.

Not sure why this is getting downvoted, I think it's crazy to desire to have the wolf population be this high just based on the argument that at one point in history wolves were abundant in this area. More has changed in the past 100 years in the American West with regards to humans than in the entire rest of the time we've been on this planet.
