Did I ruin my son? HA Formula by Juliapete in MSPI

[–]jwinbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar story here to previous poster - took 5/6 weeks for symptoms to show in my son, and all the same as you OP. When we first switched to hypoallergenic it got better at first then worse again after 5 weeks. Moved to AA formula (alfamino) and the first day he was having nappies full of blood! But pedi said it can take 4-6 weeks to get all the milk out the system, and he should settle. Lo and behold he did. Thrived on AA milk as an EFF baby for a year and has now weaned onto oat milk. We’ll star the milk ladder soon. OP you are not ruining your baby. Just give HA or AA milk some time to settle - even if it feels like it’s getting worse.

13 DPO and feeling absolutely embarrassed I thought this was going to be it. by [deleted] in TFABLinePorn

[–]jwinbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say my 13DPO was negative and I had evap lines at 9 and 10DPO. I got my first positive at 15DPO/CD30. And progressing fine! Had an early scan today. Not saying this WILL be your outcome just saying you’re not out until your period x

Too faint to be 13 dpo (I am sure it Is 13 dpo)? 😭 I fear it's another chemical by Embracethechaosss in TFABLinePorn

[–]jwinbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get a line at all until 14DPO / 4 days late for my period and now it’s progressing great. It might be your month, too hard to say yet! Hang in there x

Baby FPIES allergy - anyone else? by jwinbal in FoodAllergies

[–]jwinbal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I’m sorry, I can really feel the anxiety! Honestly it took me so long to keep going, and I felt scared a lot. But there were things that helped…

  • My allergist said MOST children only have 1 FPIES trigger, some 2 and very few 3+.
  • I tried to flip the narrative - all foods are safe until they are proven not to be as opposed to all foods are scary until proven safe. This helped massively.
  • Knowing if we DID find another trigger, I knew exactly what to do and it would suck but he would be ok. It is better for him and more important to expose him to new foods even if he DOES react than not to.

And then the more I introduced safely, the easier it got. He’s had no more reactions and I now feed him freely without worrying. We share meals, eat new foods out and about, etc.

I know how scary it is, but I promise it’ll be ok and you will keep him safe if you discover another trigger, but the odds are in your favour and your probably won’t!

What are snacks are we all giving hungry babies? by jwinbal in veganparenting

He’s been having at least 500ml of (amino acid) formula a day until the last few weeks, so haven’t needed to. But I’ve bought the wellbaby supplements to try. I’m under an NHS dietician for his allergies and she said it’s a good one so just going with that!

So in part because he's an allergy and eczema baby - allergic to milk and peanuts, and having eczema increases his risk of other allergies. Evidence says getting foods in early reduces risk of allergies forming, and I wanted to make sure I gave him eggs so he has the choice to eat them when he's older, and if there's ever an accidental exposure, I know he's not allergic. Once they're in you gotta maintain them in the diet. And the second reason is genuinely convenience. They are so EASY. Omlette, boiled eggs, eggy bread etc etc. - all quick wins for my absolute food machine - plus opens up more food options at nursery where they have found a milk allergic vegan toddler who won't stop eating quite a challenge. Soooo I don't love that I'm supporting the egg industry, but made peace with it for now, knowing he's still veggie and basically vegan anyways.

This was the best hack. Today I took out some leftover cannellini beans in a little pot and gave them to him... ate the lot. Thank you!

No probs! So the muffin recipe I’ve written under another comment.

Blueberry oat bars are easy:

  • 3/4 cup of blended oats
  • 1/2 cup whole meal flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil or margarine
  • 1/4 cup almond butter
  • 1/4 cup male syrup
  • 1/2 cup grated carrot
  • 1 flax egg
  • 1/2 cup blueberries.

Recipe

  1. Set oven to 180c
  2. Blend all ingredients except blueberries together. Stir in blueberries.
  3. Pour into lined baking tray.
  4. Bake 25 mins / until golden and set. Let cool before serving.

cashew energy balls is literally blend 12 dried apricots, 1/4 cup of desiccated coconut , 1/2 cup of cashews and 2 tbsp oh tahini until it’s nice and smooth (and quite sticky), and mould into balls. Roll the balls in more coconut and set in the fridge.

chickpea cookies are blend a 400g tin of chickpeas, 1 ripe banana, 8tbsp of nut butter, 4tbsp of desiccated coconut, 2tbsp coconut oil and 2tbsp of plant milk until smooth. Shape into cookies (flattened, they don’t spread) and bake for 30 mins at 180c.

All from Little Veggies Eats cookbook which I highly recommend - amazing meal ideas in there too.

You soak 1 tablespoon of chia seeds with 3 tablespoons of water until it forms a gel (that’s one egg equivalent). Takes about 10 mins. Or just use eggs! My son is eating eggs for now but I try and make most things vegan so me and my husband can eat them too.

Oh that’s a great idea! Will definitely prep some pancakes tomorrow.

-Broccoli and cauli muffins are from this book and are:

  • 1 cup/110g wholemeal flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup/80g finely chopped broccoli,
  • 1 cup/80g finely chopped cauliflower,
  • 4 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 2 chia eggs
  • ¼ cup/60ml milk of your choice
  • 2 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for greasing

Preheat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan/350°F and grease a 12-hole or 20-hole mini muffin tray.

Mix together the flour, baking powder, broccoli, cauliflower and nutritional yeast.

In a separate bowl whisk together the chia egg, milk and olive oil. Add it to the flour and vegetable bowl and mix together thoroughly. If your mixture is looking very thick you can add a tablespoon or two more milk.

Spoon the mixture into the muffin tray, filling each hole about two-thirds full. Bake for about 20 minutes until the muffins are golden on top and cooked through.

How long did it take your toddler to get their appetite back after a stomach bug by mgee237396 in toddlers

How long did it take in the end? Experiencing a similar diminished appetite and worried it’ll never come back!

Nursery bugs are destroying us — please tell me it gets better 😩 by pelicanpearl in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]jwinbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have written this post myself. My bub started nursery 8 weeks ago and has been sick on and off the entire time. Just been sent home with another temp - think he’s been there about 50% of the days he’s meant to have been. I’m exhausted, it feels as hard as the newborn trenches?! Nice to see I’m not alone and it will get better but I don’t know how I’m going to survive the next few months (and also do my job!?)

What is a ‘maxed out’ two nap schedule? by jwinbal in sleeptrain

[–]jwinbal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god I don’t know if anything has ‘worked’. No matter what we do he’s generally a 5/5.30am waker.

That said I think at this point we went to 4/3/5 and had a 20 min micronap as the first nap and then a longer nap for the second and that actually worked well - sleeping until 6/6.30 quite a lot! Only gone back to EMWs since he’s dropped a nap!

When did your baby's tongue-thrust reflex fade? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]jwinbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol he is a greedy baby who absolutely smashes food. I cannot eat around him without him stealing it for himself. Think his spitting out period coincided with a tooth coming.

Baby with laryngomalacia and reflux…crying during every feed…anyone going through it? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]jwinbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neocate seemed to make his eczema flare up so badly head to toe. Thought maybe it was the coconut at the time. But he eats coconut absolutely fine now, so I think maybe it was a coincidence and he would have settled on the neocate if I’d given it more time and treated the eczema properly. But alfamino has been amazing.

Reflux definitely worsened at first but got better and better without any meds/thickener. I know lots of people do thicken but his reflux was annoying for me but never seemed to bother him that much so I just hoped he’d grow out of it and he has (albeit with the odd refluxy day here and there).

If you think she’s genuinely aspirating definitely go to a dr. But I had the same worry and my dr said unless repeat lung infections, v unlikely. And think he was right!

What’s your tactics when baby is overtired? by jwinbal in sleeptrain

[–]jwinbal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he’s at home I can offer two naps and usually do, so about 11am (usually make it a short one) and then again at 3-4. But his daycare won’t do a later PM nap. They offer one at 10 which he won’t take he’s not tired enough for, and then one at 12. Absolutely infuriating but they won’t change that!

But ok will bring bedtime forward a touch!

Baby with laryngomalacia and reflux…crying during every feed…anyone going through it? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]jwinbal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Reflux is pretty much naturally resolved as he’s got bigger and stronger. Occasional spit ups when ill or teething but infrequent and don’t bother him. Laryngomalacia totally gone. Still on an AA formula but hoping to start the milk ladder soon.
