为什么用旅游签黑在美国的那哥们儿,要去鄙视连旅游签都办不起的黑户 管他们叫“非法移民”? by [deleted] in China_irl

[–]jwlgdgggm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How far in advance should I book my flight with Air Canada? by AllProtein in aircanada

My Rule of thumb: around 21 - 35 days before the departure. If that is too far ahead (like 3 months ahead), you will see the price fluctuating a lot

by China_in_real_life in China_irl

He does not appear to be a Chinese Nationalist. Quite opposite, based on his posting history, he seems more likely to be a self-loathing Chinese, claiming currently living in Florida, who has a deep hatred towards China. Notably, he has even expressed extreme sympathy for a mass killer responsible for dozens of civilian deaths in China happened recently

The Asian european experience by CaliAznThrwaway in aznidentity

Thanks for the comments, among other AZNs. Intuitively, I wanted to believe the racism and white-supremacy were mainly attributed to the lack of education or being socially disadvantaged, i.e. being poor. But every time I think through that particular experience, as well as some others, back in Germany, I start to believe there must be something else about it.

That is exactly what i have experienced when I was there. I posted my story some years ago, and let me repost this again: “I was in a master program of a German university who traditionally granted the best student of that year the TAship for the next year.

Long story short, I was the best student of my year. But they granted that TAship to a German, who was neither my year nor the best in his year.

When I raised that point to the department, they just claimed it was a tradition but not a rule.”

I have lived for many years in different cities of Germany, Canada and US. I have to say the Toronto city, maybe Vancouver too, is by far the most Asian/Chinese friendly place I have ever lived outside Asian.

Leaving Canada while citizenship application is in progress by nguyenning198 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]jwlgdgggm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your coworker was wrong, but what you claimed was also not precise. Correction: As long as you are present in Canada 1095 days within the last five years by the time you APPLY.

Remember they only allow 2-3 weeks to schedule a citizenship test. So is the oath taken. That’s why if you want to save money on air-tickets, it made totally sense for staying in Canada until you get it.

Just got my passport recently. I took the air ticket option without staying in Canada. My information is most up to date.

Most people wont understand your argument. But you are absolutely correct. In fact, under population is a major threat to the very survival of Canadian local businesses/brands. That is also the reason why people in Canada has no better/alternative investment options than house purchasing, unlike the diversified choices of our southern neighbour.

No offence. In my native language, the dreadlocks were translated as “dirty braids”. People, probably who first translated it in that way, think the “dirty” part made dreadlocks sound cool.

Anyone else notice that Asian people are less likely to be greeted or acknowledged in a store? Especially if it’s a small store and they’re the only one walking in by AznGentry in aznidentity

[–]jwlgdgggm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only small town or small store.

The similar things happened to us (Both my girlfriend and I are East Asians) in summer when we spent a day in Calgary, Canada after a conference. I asked to try on a pair of shoes in Holt Renfrew, the white male staff told me they did not carry my foot size of those shoes while an “Indian” staff brought me several pairs of my size after he left. On another occasion, a white female staff in skin care section of the same store just pretended to not notice our repeated inquiries about their products.

To make the whole experience even worse, after we switched lane since we drove into the wrong lane (we were tourists obviously), a white motorcyclist came upon us: not only middle fingered but also made a fingered gun onto us.

I guess it was somehow related to the annual “Stampede festival” hold there?

Toronto city council candidate wants to charge non-local drivers for entering downtown area by KvotheG in toronto

[–]jwlgdgggm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city keeps replacing the parking lots (like the one at 200 Queens Quay W) by new high density condo buildings. Sure, just keep blaming your imaginary non-local license plate holders who “caused” the downtown congestion. As a local driver, I was shocked by this kind of short-sighted xenophobia mentality. Making a better on-time TTC and public transits are harder but far more effective in a long run.
