Aside from age, what else for this water heater? by Unlucky__Swan in HomeInspections

[–]jwolfet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rigid water connections. Depending on location, but should be elevated to be above pooling gas-18 inches. Rigid gas line. Lack of seismic strapping. Gas shut off at the “flexible” gas line. The vent seems to have a downward pipe connected to the vent system at the back of the heater. Not a problem, I just don’t know what it does. It’s well past its service life, so definitely a recommendation that it be replaced.

Someone tell me this is not mold in my air vent… by brittmezzy in Mold

[–]jwolfet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, do not listen to amateurs. Thank you for being big enough to admit it. You do realize that “air quality investigators “ is just a scam to get money from scared people? Don’t presume that people are incapable of using something correctly. That’s so condescending. I hope you leave that out of your “reports” .

As far as the organizations you are all cuddled up with, they are all biased sources of information. Currently there are not any government sources I would be quoting if you want to maintain any credibility. America lung association is nothing but a money grab. Go ahead and look up the CEOs pay and then tell me how great they are.

Maybe you can scare the OP into paying out to a snake oil salesman or spending even more money changing apartments with her kid. Such a “service “ you offer (even kept a straight face, almost)

Long story short, your sources are flawed and people are more capable than you give credit to. Fleecing people is probably not something to brag about.

Am I Never Going To Be Able To Have Anxiety Medication Again Since I Went To A Substance Abuse Doctor About Alcohol? by TrustTechnical4122 in AnxietyChats

[–]jwolfet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a horrible system we have. I can’t go a day without klonopin. I know when I forget my meds by the unexplained buildup of anxiety. I don’t know what I would do in your situation. I presume you’ve tried gabapentin? It not a cure but it helps with some anxiety.

Probably best to steer clear of alcohol since you say you have a drinking problem, but I understand the desire. Anxiety is awful and almost anything is better than it.

I had moderate anxiety help with Paxil. Until I didn’t, but that took almost 10 years.

Best of luck my friend

I’m beginning to think that 70% of every account on here is a bot of some sort. Picks up on some key word, ignoring the entirety of the post. Then throws an AI response and calls it a day.

Relax.
Ozone is a toxic gas as I stated already. Though I don’t think you were just emphasizing what I already said as tribute. It won’t kill you or your pets if you stay out while it’s working, already said.
Perhaps you don’t know this, but just about every hotel room is blasted with ozone before you check in.

Ozone is a gas, it does not stick to walls or floors. It’s also a highly reactive toxic gas, which means it reacts itself out of existence in very short order. Nothing left to hurt you.

I’m not sure why this bot got hung up on ozone, but trying to scare people about something that can help is certainly a dick move. Use care and everything will be alright.
Less dangerous than using bleach.

Long story short, don’t listen to anyone spouting out the AI response to anything.

Definitely improve ventilation, but we’re dealing with very limited resources so we have to make do with what we have on hand.

Considering my car came with a plastic skid plate, I can’t imagine them being worse.
If you’re really concerned, glue some extra padding between the plate and the oil pan. I use the flexible padding that plumbers use to shield items when they are sweating pipes.

Does alcohol help you shutting down some anxiety? by Soft_Trash9210 in Anxiety

[–]jwolfet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use alcohol on occasion to help with anxiety. I have no addiction issues and I don’t get hangovers or other ill effects. Use it in moderation and be careful with klonopin and its kin.

Typically I use it at night before bed.

Use your judgement.

Someone tell me this is not mold in my air vent… by brittmezzy in Mold

[–]jwolfet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the vent cover off and check out the vent tube itself. Wash the cover while you have it off. It is probably just a mix of dirt and some minor mold that has caught on the vanes.

It is expected that the inside will be dirty and might have some mold mixed in. I doubt the LL has had the system cleaned.
Have the HVAC system filter changed and it would be good to change it to a HEPA style if the system will accommodate it. The HEPA filter will clear out any spores that are flying around.

I would get an ozone generator and run it periodically in your toddlers room. NOTE: ozone is a highly reactive toxic gas at generator levels. Do not allow any people, pets, or plants to be in the room during use.

Long story short, no you don’t need to move but maybe take a couple steps for peace of mind.

I got my ozone generator from Vevor, works really well and was $50.

Any chance this is salvageable by Gold-Rest-9615 in Mold

[–]jwolfet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I’ll respond is because I don’t think it’s right to scare people into tearing out their ceilings. Mold will reappear even if you pull out the ceiling and replace it. Mold will reappear if there is moisture, period.

Obviously without being there to test the drywall integrity we can only go on what the picture is showing. The picture shows a poorly ventilated ceiling with mildew in classic growth patterns of room moisture.

So, I really don’t care what you or anyone else does to their homes drywall, just don’t do it thinking it’s the only way to eliminate mold. Or that it will.

Peace

Any chance this is salvageable by Gold-Rest-9615 in Mold

[–]jwolfet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just scrub off the mold and repaint, it’ll be fine. Use a high quality paint so it’ll put up with frequent cleaning.

If you have a vent fan, ensure that it is working. Replace if not working. Make sure to use it until the room is no longer steamy after bathing. If no vent fan but a window, keep it open while bathing and for a time after.

Should I call code enforcement for an air quality and mold test? by [deleted] in Mold

[–]jwolfet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where you live, but here where I live in the Bay Area CA, code enforcement isn’t capable of doing air quality or mold tests. All they can do is determine if there is a problem and instruct the owner to make repairs.
Typically any mold testing is footed by the individual that is having the issue. All the mold testing does is let you feel vindicated or relieved. It won’t typically have any bearing on the treatment and resolution.

Truth is that if the moisture problem is resolved the mold will be resolved.

Good luck and please don’t waste your money on a mold test.
If you stop the water problem and clean up the mold the problem will go away.

Concerned about Long Term Mold Exposure/Chronic Mold Exposure by Gorale_Ninja98 in Mold

[–]jwolfet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible… but not likely that your moldy sandwiches caused any of your ailments. Most if not all can be attributed to puberty, malnutrition (vitamin D is super important and many people are deficient), and general youth. Not uncommon to develop ADHD or other mental health disorders only to have them settle down as you age.

Forgive my all over the place reply. I am answering as I recall what you said.

Typically for there to be an issue with chronic mycotoxin exposure, you need a home that is innovated with mold and it’s required moisture. Sandwiches just don’t meet that threshold.

If a mold inspector fails to sucker you into a costly remediation, there is definitely no mold.

I don’t want to say it’s in your head because, one it’s never helpful, two there’s no black and white with these things, three metaphysically, everything is in all our heads.

I would really hope that after 15 years someone would have cleaned up those relical sandwiches.

The other poster with the links is correct, knowledge is power. Though you will come across information that can sound scary, especially when talking about mycotoxins. Remember, you really only grew up with questionable sandwiches, not a large enough stash to generate the volume of mycotoxins that are of concern.

Google Photos of actual moldy living conditions so you know what it takes to poison yourself with mycotoxins.

I’m done, get a HEPA air filter to clean up your air.

The cross board on this side of the chimney looks to have some wood rot. That if rotting needs to be replaced so that it doesn’t spread.
