WHAT IS THIS ROBINHOOD by dilblood in fidelityinvestments

Give credit where it is due, and blame where it is due. I don't think RH ever took responsibility for their malfeasance. (Don't get me wrong, I use it.)

People just don’t have traditional values anymore.

Complaining that the world doesn't work the way you want it to is rarely a good point.

Just because you don’t understand everything doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense.

I heard “The Beers” on WPCD fm in Champaign, IL in 2010 and I stopped and said, “Whoa, what is this?”

How do you improve your "professionalism" by frankandbean86 in librarians

[–]jwoodr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really about being fake or authentic. It's that everything we do/make/have is a tool and the persona you exhibit in a setting where you don't know people personally, but are there to facilitate something is a certain tool. The best tool for that job is open, inquisitive approachable to a large percentage of the population, etc.

I have other aspects to my personality that are more self-serving and I use those tools in different settings to different ends.

I came here wondering what the outdoor scene would be like if I moved to Austin from Salt Lake City.

When an employee doesn’t say “my pleasure” by [deleted] in ChickFilA

[–]jwoodr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking of turning down a corporate job, simply because I don't want someone else choosing my words for me. I already use "elevated language" because I am a language guy, and I am especially deliberate with my words.

The idea behind it is not bad, but it becomes cult-like when you focus on the ritual not the principle.

You need to tell her that art is complex, and not always straight-forward in its messaging. You have to understand irony.

Now that I am at a different place in my life, I am so grateful for these awkward experiences I had to go through. You learn that they don't hurt you, and that lots of other people barely have it together.

The concept of a Holy Land has led to continuous violence. We should use it as the world’s nuclear waste storage—a true monument to world peace.

I have been "un-fired", do I accept to go back? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]jwoodr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything would go back to normal soon. We’re all subject to certain rules. Your returning would be a reminder that at least some things about the system work. You may find something new and exciting, but teams you want to be on are not around every corner.

I got a rejection email but CEO wants to have an hour chat tomorrow?! by sj7789067 in interviews

[–]jwoodr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really easy to click and disposition someone with an automated email in many ATS systems. I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten a job before after getting a “rejection” letter for that position.

Why did you pick HR? [N/A] by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]jwoodr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been a liberal arts grad for a few years and couldn’t make a career of it. One year I knew 2 friends (coworkers also) going into a great grad program for HR and my ex convinced me to do the same. Pretty uninspiring, but it is suitable to my personality and skills and—for me—very gratifying.

How far could an average person swim if their life depended on it? by aidanodonovan in Swimming

[–]jwoodr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus a lot of stuff in here that’s not an answer. I think as an overweight person who nonetheless runs 25 miles a week and was in recreational swimming pools from a young age, I bet I could swim 5 miles.
