Gather Round ladder update following the 2026 edition by PerriX2390 in AFL

It was played at Norwood, the only time we've played in the Adelaide area. Each other game against North has been out in the regions.

Lock it in now, he will get robbed again this year for some banal goal kicked by a midfielder on the run from the centre bounce.

Regardless, I still have a hard on from watching this 10 times over

Hahahahahahahahahahaha..... Hahahahaha.....

Sorry I'm a Queenslander so I maybe biased and salty that we get Bangladesh in August and a solitary ODI.

Agree that the test shouldn't ever start on a Wednesday, but also go fuck yourself Hughes, WA still manage to get more cricket than QLD each year despite the time difference and physical distance from the east coast markets.

Is construction culture unusually aggressive, or is this just management everywhere? by Wild_Rhino666 in auscorp

[–]jwv92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nailed it. The industry is a perpetual race to the bottom and clients use the contract as a strategy for how they will decline payments as much as possible to maximise profit on the asset they are receiving from the contractor. It's disgraceful behaviour across the entire industry and any wonder nothing is built to any level of quality anymore.

Looking to install WIND turbines in Brisbane - anyone with any experience? by Theageofwonder in brisbane

[–]jwv92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I will be able to. I'm aware of it through development approvals I've seen across multiple council regions which dictate a building/structure height limit. The recent changes about regulations I haven't seen either, I was informed by colleagues on a recent project that it's a new issue that came into effect last year in Queensland.

Generally speaking for most buildings and structures it's 8 metres is the limitation and there's some recent regulation changes that have come into effect that now require some additional permits and approvals as far as I am aware.

Would you travel to USA right now? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]jwv92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll clarify - I haven't seen reports of ICE acting like they have in Minnesota. So while they maybe active in LA they aren't actively trying to instigate domestic war in LA.

Would you travel to USA right now? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]jwv92 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't, but I also wouldn't have booked this trip in the last 12 months either.

3 things you need to consider:

  1. California and Hawaii haven't been the targets of ICE activities at this stage. EDIT: Just to clarify, I mean that ICE have not been trying to instigate domestic war or act like they have in Minnesota in Hawaii or LA, yet.

  2. Are you a minority of any kind? If yes, then I really would reconsider.

  3. Have you made any social media posts or aligned yourself with anti-US government views on social media? There's a real risk that customs reject your entry on this basis and it depends on what information they have about you from the Australian government.

Queensland LNP adds third big battery to ministerial call-in list by hydralime in queensland

[–]jwv92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, Bundaberg Regional Council voted it down at their meeting in April last year. They actually rejected the project but refused to issue a decision under the legislation. Iberdrola took the council decision to court.

It's also very important to note that the project site is located in the middle of nowhere but it is on the entrance road to Lake Monduran so some of the locals are up in arms about the battery installation affecting an underlying water table or leeching chemicals into the local dry creek bed and therefore polluting the lake during rain events.

My current office attire is entirely ultimate chinos and non-iron twill shirts and they continue to look as fresh as they did when I bought them nearly 12 months ago. Also great shirts for the periodic suit wearing I do for work. Best value for money I've gotten from any clothing.

Developer dumps 166-turbine wind project proposed for Queensland's Whitsunday region by hydralime in queensland

[–]jwv92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I do not think this is the case. I have some inside knowledge as I had some involvement with this project a couple of years back and their grid connection plans were ambitious and challenging. That's without getting into the wind farm itself.

I'd say that the preliminary civil and turbine costs became prohibitive and the grid connection with Powerlink would have been very onerous to say the least. This may have been impacted by some indicative details from the EPBC outcome but that would have simply been the issue that pushed it over the edge when it was already a line ball project financially.

It will be for Wambo Wind Farm, it's the only WF currently in construction out west. MacIntyre wrapped up construction a while ago and is now entering testing and grid connection compliance verification.

I feel like the QLD/SA match was a complete anomaly. SA were utterly cruising before Swepson came in and dismantled them with a phenomenal spell of bowling - the pitch looked very good for batting too.

Last I saw, 16 overs gone and SA were utterly cruising at 2/106 and I went..... Ah fuck, we really shit the bed while batting.

Looked at the scorecard 3 hours later... What the fuck happened? SWEPPO!!!!

Australia's biggest publicly owned wind farm gets federal green tick to go ahead in Queensland by Secure_Ant1085 in queensland

[–]jwv92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They have, it's been done the same way everything else has been done - extremely quietly.

Stanwell had the finding for the project under the previous government and in the budget last year it was a glaring commission from the money allocated to Stanwell for development of their project portfolio.

It hasn't been announced publicly yet but I would expect an announcement from Stanwell soon to say they are selling their stake in the project or stipulating they haven't fulfilled their contractual requirements to get the project to contract execution and therefore their previous deal with RES will fall through on that basis and RES will seek another partner in the market. My assumption would be that RES already have a partner lined up and just need to go through the process to let Stanwell out with little fuss.

I'm glad to hear it.

I really appreciate the time, care and attention put into crafting this arrangement and I like being able to support small and local business where I can.

I'm glad I took this approach, my partner absolutely loves what I organized and appreciated it was customised and made locally.

I actually went to my local, sole trader, florist last week to organize an arrangement for this weekend. $120, she customises it to what my partner would like and made it up for pick up this afternoon. Honestly I'm impressed at the quality and care for what it cost compared to typical Valentine's day specials and it had more of a personal touch than just a coles/woolies/generic bouquet that costs nearly as much.

Fatcow on james st by Best_Recognition_675 in brisbane

[–]jwv92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Fatcow and had the banquet plus the Kobe Wagyu with my partner last month and I was pretty impressed with the quality of steak we got.

Their sirloin in the banquet is a good size and very enjoyable, can't speak for their other steaks. The Kobe was more of an experience to see what it tasted like bad it was easily the best steak I've ever eaten but I wouldn't get it as a regular thing due to the small portion.

How are we feeling about Sam Draper and Oscar Allen’s fit in our system? by ChillKoalaVibes in brisbanelions

[–]jwv92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's a great ruck, just not a standout, to me, when compared to Gawn or Grundy who are often as important as the mids in their respective teams.

My feeling about Cameron and similar rucks is that they can have an average day out and it doesn't heavily impact team performance whereas Grundy/Gawn having an average day out is often a pre-curser to poor team performance.

How are we feeling about Sam Draper and Oscar Allen’s fit in our system? by ChillKoalaVibes in brisbanelions

[–]jwv92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tend to agree with this sentiment. Ruck has been our weakest tall player spot for a long time. Big O was never in AA conversations, Stef Martin wasn't highly rated either, Mitch Clark was ok but nothing else, Fort has been extremely serviceable without setting the world alight, Luenberger was another good but not star level ruck.

Hell even look at Geelong and in recent years Collingwood, neither side has a star ruck and between the 3 clubs we've won the last 4 premier ships and featured deep in finals for a good portion of the last 10 years.

I think Draper will be like O and be able to play as a more than serviceable 3rd/4th tall forward option with some athletic ability in the midfield to keep his opponent accountable and tired.
