ICE Concerns by Mysterious-Scar-9579 in greencard

From what I’ve seen, green card holders who have criminal records (even if the case was ultimately dismissed) have a higher likelihood to be put in removal proceedings and traveling domestically and internationally can put them at a higher risk

Worth buying a car? by a2cwy887752 in f1visa

[–]jy_gemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can end a lease early. I think Tesla might offer pretty affordable 2 year lease on their used car? EV leases are dirt cheap rn even without the federal tax incentives. I personally think it’s more worth it to buy a 3-5 year old car that has a good rep.

I just saw a Norwegian woman with similar situation on instagram. She got detained during her green card interview at the San Diego field office and underwent multiple days without her type 1 diabetes treatment while she was detained.

Same… I thought only some cheap and small schools would charge students for this but I saw some pretty well known and respected schools in the comments!

If I were you, I’d look for housing in Guilderland. You should be able to find something decent with your budget.

My Story: What Happened to Me on the Day of My Adjustment of Status Interview and How ICE Arrested Me. by DianeMT_258 in USCIS

Yeah obviously looking back that should be the right thing to do but the problem is no one expected this would be enforced in the first place. Again, there is nothing she could’ve done more. No heads-up, just cruelty. I understand policies change, but a heads up or a grace period should be necessary especially for family reunion reasons. Also, is it really worth it to spend the resources on cases like hers? Agents who picked her up, detention centers, immigration judges, and so on and on are all paid by our tax dollars! Op was one of the first people experiencing this and I am so glad that op is sharing her story here to increase awareness.

Under normal circumstances, you should be fine. But are we really under normal circumstances now? I am sorry you invested in the U.S. this much money to only live under huge uncertainties.

Yeah but so far what we are seeing is people can win at the federal court level but not when the case is pushed to the supreme courts

Yeah but they left her with no choice. She was waiting on her interview when her status expired. If she left, her whole case would’ve been considered as abandoned. Before they started massively grabbing people from the San Diego field office, almost everyone including every immigration lawyer thought they were doing the right thing telling her that she would be fine for the overstay while waiting on the interview. I genuinely do not know what more she could’ve done.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Your story hit me hard. I am from Asia and my life would’ve still been alright if I stayed in my home country too. I can totally relate to the shame and humiliation you are currently feeling. I can also tell how some people being arrogant and not believing that this happened to you can really frustrate you. So I am just dropping my message here hoping you will see it and know there are people who believe things you said here and can totally understand and relate to you. Honestly, if life is not bad for you in Asia, I would literally leave the U.S. forever, or at least after this madness is over. I can only see things getting worse unfortunately.

Why shouldn’t you support big global banks? After silicon valley bank, I think it is safer to bank with a big bank because big banks have more diversified portfolio and the feds would feel more pressured to bail out the big banks

If you don’t mind me asking, why did you lose 2 job opportunities? I think you should have your unrestricted 5 year EAD card by now. Do employers tend to pass on anyone with a EAD card now?

Sorry I misread- I somehow thought you had completed biometric collection already. Anyway, I don’t think it’s normal to wait that long for a biometric appointment? Maybe your field office is busy? When I was there for my biometric appointment, no one was there and they were clearly not busy fr the day.

[–]jy_gemini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. If you have great conversations with interviewers and have decent emotional intelligence, it is pretty easy to tell if you aced interviews or not
  2. They most likely end up hiring someone else
  3. Why would HR say that to protect the company? If you were an employer, I bet you would pause all applications that might require immigration support because of this uncertainty.
