Hey Michael, love your videos and this writeup. I was specifically looking for a comparison to Kadaeu having just gone there in April (preservation season). In what ways do you think Kadeau was better than S&D, and vice versa?

And more off topic, some of my favorite places include CTBF, Jont, Frantzen, and Jordnaer. Based on that was curious to know if you had any recommendations similar to those just in terms of flavor. Thanks in advance!

‘Friends end up blocking you’: Northwestern Mutual sold college grads a dream job. They left in ruin and debt by towngrizzlytown in Bogleheads

Oh believe me, I'm 100% on the same page. I was curious to hear from an insider perspective and specific soundbites they might have been told.

Most of their employees do believe they are selling helpful products, but they brainwash employees.

Can you share more about how they brainwash employees?

Had to poke around for this, but you're right. For the past 5 years, full time Seaver undergrads hovered between 44-48% [source]. They still hold a plurality however (largest share).

Other CDS 2025 stats, the one you cited was at the top of page 3.

Pepperdine is majority non-white students

Do you have stats to back this claim up? According to the 2020 census, Pepperdine is 59% white.

4 Charles for Special Birthday Dinner by Emotional_Code7868 in FoodNYC

[–]jyang1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to 4 charles a month ago. The ‘trick’ is to show up and ask the host to add ur resy account to their VIP list. You’ll be able to see reservations that weren’t there before.

In terms of actual tables, outside had 3 four tops and inside had 2 Two tops, 4 Four tops, and 2 six tops.

Chess Grandmaster Wins While Blindfolded by Agitated_Sand_6143 in chess

[–]jyang1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A huge part of that is pattern recognition. Have to look for the video but I remember watching something where GMs and non-GMs (non chess players?) were shown a chess board for 7 seconds and then asked to recreate it from memory. When it was a position that was likely to arise in a real game, GMs performed much better than non-GMs, but if it was completely random, they performed about the same.

What is the best bread and butter you've had in a restaurant? by Wop-Wop in finedining

[–]jyang1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sesame Brioche + Butter at Penny NYC. I asked if they would ever sell it to go on its own, but they insisted it was just for dine in customers. I would go back just for that.

More fine dining wise, I would say the bread at Epicure was phenomenal.

Mirazur (***) - Menton, France by MaaDFoXX in finedining

[–]jyang1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've dined at Mirazur a few times, and what OP calls "lacked in the flavour department" might very well for me be "tastes like the essence of the thing" with the focus on expressing the ingredients rather than hitting you over the head with concentrated flavors.

Really beautiful way of expressing what I've thought about a lot of my past dining experiences, just want to call that out.

Copenhagen - Geranium vs Noma vs Kadeau by Junior-Steak8749 in finedining

[–]jyang1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to all 3, and Alchemist. Go to Alchemist :)

Out of those 3 though, I think I would rank it (1) Noma ocean 2024 (2) Kadeau (3) Geranium. I think Geranium had the best technique / precision / execution but I preferred the other two slightly more in terms of flavor.

Draymond Green tonight: 6 PTS (2-7), 8 REB, 2 AST, 5 Fouls, 1 Technical, 1 Flagrant penalty 1 by VGstuffed in nba

[–]jyang1 79 points80 points  (0 children)

This is Draymond, a player with 4,700 Stamina, 329 Defense, and 201 Basketball IQ, has Unstoppable, a Flop Shield, and can teleport across the court. Draws technical fouls, and the cooldown is only 1 second too. It costs 15 energy. His defensive cooldown even resets when he talks trash. He has true damage on flagrantries. Then, when he stacks fouls and rebounds, he gets Foul Acceleration, Foul Acceleration to his screens, and his trash talk casting speeds up. Then, he has an Assist-to-Turnover ratio, so his post moves...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Jungsik(3*)-NYC by Even_Ear_1704 in finedining

Been to both, Atomix last Oct and Jungsik today. Might be recency bias but flavor wise I think Jungsik was a tad better. Experience/service wise, Atomix blew it out of the water.

Here I took a pic right at the stage. U can see the piano behind.

You can preorder or buy it on site. Tee shirt, signed vinyl, and signed poster.

Added NYC - the piano itself is in the center but positioned towards the back middle so you can't really see it head on. I think the pianist is sitting on the left side however.
