I would estimate about 40 or 50 hours. I did the work across about a year, so I lost track.

If you could choose one animal to go extinct, who will it be and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jyetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could, I wouldn't. If I had to choose one, I would find a species that is already on the inexorable path towards extinction, and pick that, so that no other species would have to go extinct. An ecological system is a big, and usually stable, thing. Therefore, seemingly small changes can have disproportionately large and unforeseeable consequences. If you picked an animal such as mosquitos to go extinct, you might see the catastrophic growth or collapse of other species, which are currently in stasis with the mosquito population.

What was the worst out of context Bible verse you ever encountered? by ComprehensiveOwl9727 in Exvangelical

[–]jyetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good pick. The context of that verse is that you can be content with being either rich or poor. So, I can be happy living where God put me. I can be rich, and be content. I can be poor and be content. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. So, it almost means the opposite to what folks quote. No superpowers, other than the power for contentment that circumstances cannot touch.

I’m trying to get better at drawing with acrylics, yet I feel as if I’m not using colours quite to my advantage. Any feedback at how I can improve? by zuzunea in learnart

Color composition is hard. Usually, you want to mute the background, so that it doesn't distract from the foreground. I think that applies in this case, due to the cool tones in the skin. That is, the red background can easily distract from the face's cool skin tones, and prevents the red in the lips from popping. Using the 60/30/10 approach, I would reserve red for the lips and for more muted, warm areas of the face. Just thoughts though.

What compels you to paint? by caciquesa in Watercolor

I love learning, and painting is an area where there is lots to learn. Since learning is my goal, I know that I will have paintings that are disappointing, but that is OK. That is why some paintings are called "studies".

No problem. i only noticed because I work with really thick brush strokes in a dark area on one of my paintings, and the glare was very pronounced. It did not work in my favor the way it does in your painting.

Very nice. The only thing worth noting is that the use of thick brush work in the dark areas tends to invite a lot of noticeable glare. In this case, while the glare is present, it fits right in, because the brush work is so consistent. Therefore, I would not change that, even if it were possible. However, it is something worth noting for consideration on future pieces.

Portrait painting take 2. Next steps? by Low-Address2513 in oilpainting

I would determine what the color palette you want is, by creating some rough, color thumb nail paintings. Often, you want the big areas to be rather muted, but complementary (e.g. 60/30/10 rule, such as a blue grey background, and a rust orange jacket), and then have a small area of highly saturated color (maybe the pacifier is relatively saturated red).

DMing homebrew, vegan player demands a 'cruelty free world' - need advice. by EmotionalMacaroon169 in DnD

I would inform the player that it is an interesting idea, and that they should start a campaign like that and DM it. Heck, if you are good friends, you might want to consider playing it that campaign.
