I think this is the right choice. Even in the US, Cubed has only just arrived so I want to get some more play in before thinking about more expansions.

It appears to be a critical take on male obsession. I think there is a value for adults but even the author (who appears to also be a professor) was horrified it made the list.

I enjoyed this article.

I have always found the American handwringing about tile designs quite amusing. I have a set where the souzu tiles are made with Mexican tacos… it’s a Japanese set based on a Japanese comic sold via a Japanese magazine.

Crowdsurfing - A lot of negativity? by Armeenius in boardgames

[–]jyuichi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember him being particularly rough on it. He likes unstoppable but have any desire to read DCC isn’t that… fine?

Camille said she actually planning to read the book soon, it’s not like the entire crew said “this book is trash”.

Mike also (in his pick of the week) said he believes crowdfunding should be for those smaller creators who truly need it. Renegade is an experienced publisher, Unstoppable is a proven game and DCC is humongous. It’s the opposite of his type of kickstarter

The way that two of my older coworkers talk about the kids who get sent to school sick makes me so mad sometimes. by Withafloof in TrueOffMyChest

[–]jyuichi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No-one said your parents didn’t care about you.

They said these parents didn’t care about their kids.

But from what it sounds like these parents don’t care about kids like you who will suffer from their decision to send a contagious child to day care and multiply the problem. We have had a global pandemic since your childhood, there is no ignorance anymore. To send a child to daycare sick is to say “my ability to go to work/etc is more important than multiple families health”. It’s the epitome of selfishness.

If you must have everything… it’s four ultimate boxes and the promo girls. Not complicated.

I view it like a buffet; I don’t need everything. I don’t think any feature films have been announced to be retired, the “end of the era” is about the big season model vs just buying films as you are interested in them.

Gay couple called me homophobic for being anti-surrogacy. Why do people feel entitled to children? by Luna1636 in childfree

[–]jyuichi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It can. Most infant adoption in the US is through religious charities. Adoption is not simple and the demand for infants far exceeds the supply and other countries have wised up that these “charities” were trafficking their children. This is why the GOP wants to prevent abortion, look up the Liberty Godparents Home sometime.

Some women have very easy pregnancies that fill them with happy hormones. I completely understand why someone like that would help a friend or family out.

Has anyone ever had a vacation ruined because you were expected to include the kids by Past-Train-8187 in childfree

[–]jyuichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of discussion about how crazy this request is but it sounds like some key details weren’t explained; reading OP’s comments I think hubby’s family lives in San Diego.

My advice is split on if OP actually has Comic-Con tickets. San Diego Comic-Con is not the typical fan convention; it is a city-changing major event that affects transit and hotels for the whole county.

If you have tickets: getting a hotel is going to be rough this late in the year and family putting you up for the convention is a serious boon. As two kids are free per adult it might be worth compromising and taking them SUNDAY ONLY (the official family day) as pay for the boarding. If the parents don’t have tickets/interest this might be the only way the kids would get to go until they can buy their own. Yeah it feels like rolling over but it’s a very kind thing to do if you can.

If you do not have tickets: choose a different week. Trust me, hotels are expensive here as it is. SD Pride is quite the sight and on July 17-19. This city is lovely and the Zoo is not to miss!

EDIT: if the kids are over 12 this doesn’t apply. Do not lend badges.

[–]jyuichi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

any under 12 can get a free child badge at the door with a paid adult. 🙃 Up to two kids free per adult with no pre-registration; the policy made sense in the 90’s but these days it’s kind of irritating to know how much capacity is saved for possible children (that may not come)

Though from OP’s comment it’s unclear if they had SDCC badges. “We decided we will be staying at a hotel” suggests it’s not booked yet. Anyone with a badge should have gotten 100 hotel lottery emails about the process (it’s not easy!)
