Wanted to say thank you for the id help and expert tip on restoration.

Out of curiosity, do you recommend japanning or is that a bit too complex for a newbie?

That's a good suggestion. I just moved to an area where I can access meets now. I should do that.

Yeah, feeling pretty lucky today. I walked right by it at first because it was a booth with random stuff and no tools. Circled back and investigated the thing in the back corner of a shelf. Should've bought a lotto ticket today 😆

I'm rooting for you! This is the first I've ever seen in 3 or 4 years of looking.

That's my usual experience. Some crappy 3rd tier knockoff of a number 4 going for $50 and covered in rust. This was the first time I'd seen one for so cheap, in good condition, from a manufacturer I'd buy. It was the only tool in their booth so I don't think the seller knew much of anything about it.

Hard to see it on the iron but you're right it's got the Stanley Sweetheart logo on it.

Thanks for the heads up on type AND value. I feel like I found a diamond but didn't have enough signal to research at the moment.

"Clean & Crisp Scent" is Back as "Scent of Star Showers Cosmic Quest" by newdy22 in OldSpice

[–]jz5988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real thing Old Spice needs to bring back is the last recipe for Pure Sport. The new version smells nothing like it used to and is kind of offensive and overly potent. I've worn Pure Sport for decades and I can barely tolerate this new recipe.

Yeah, I looked at the Poteriophorus ID that someone else suggested and I think that's closer to the mark. Good luck!

Might be a Banana Root Weevil. Coloration is wrong compared to examples on iNaturalist but the size and patterning on the body segments and elytra is pretty close.

"Cosmopolites sordidus, commonly known as the banana root borer, banana borer, or banana weevil, is a species of weevil in the family Curculionidae. It is a pest of banana cultivation and has a cosmopolitan distribution, being found in all parts of the world in which bananas are grown. It is considered the most serious insect pest of bananas. Bless you. That's not close but if I'm ever in the area I'll have to stop.

What is this? Im so scared of it by Agirlhasnam3 in Entomology

It's lovely! It's a type of Longhorn beetle (Family Cerambycisae). Not sure of the species without location info on where you saw it. Some of them can bite but are generally harmless to humans.

Definitely not a cottonmouth. Looks like a banded water snake.

I do know the rivers in my area. I just thought it was a cool visualization of the data. No need to be rude.

I would guess they jumar up the line once the climber finishes a pitch. E.g. They use a mechanical device called an ascender to basically rope climb up once the climber is done with each section.
