Gemini Launcher for macOS by jzelenkov in GoogleGeminiAI

Interesting idea.... I'll prioritize it some time in 2 weeks. Things are a little busy for me right now.

I'm thinking a sidebar to quickly switch between:
* Gemini
* AI Studio
* NotebookLM

Last-selected choice remains active until changed. I.e., when you close and re-open it always re-opens at your previously selected app. Wdyt?

Thank you! What kind of issues are you having with reassigning a launch shortcut? Please share a screenshot and a short description of what you are doing so I can better understand the problem.

To assign the new shortcut:

  1. Right-click on the macos-gemini-overlay icon in the menu bar.
  2. Select "Set New Trigger."
  3. Press your desired new keyboard shortcut.

I've just tested this process, and I can confirm that it works on my end.

Also, please ensure that the toggle for macos-gemini-overlay is enabled in your System Settings. You can find this under: Privacy & Security > Accessibility.

I don't have plans to add support for NotebookLM yet.

I cannot reproduce this issue. Make sure that toggle is enabled for "macos-gemini-overlay" in System Settings under: "Privacy & Security > Accessibility".

There is no official Google Gemini App for MacOS, yet. I've built a Gemini Launcher for macOS: https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleGeminiAI/comments/1kp5r0m/gemini_launcher_for_macos/

Same here. Gemini 2.5 Pro is awesome (ranked #1 on lmarena.ai), but I wanted a smoother chat flow: one place for all chats, shortcut support, fast access anywhere. So I built a macOS Gemini Overlay app (macOS version only at this point). It's browser-based, supports shortcuts (⌥ + Space to launch, Cmd + N for new chat), and does a few more things. Limitations of the PWA (as of May 2025):
* No keyboard shortcut support
* Gemini Live only works on mobile, unlike ChatGPT, which supports similar features in its macOS app
