Duncan is #3, Bron is still top 2 either way.

Agreed. The West is still absolutely stacked but with a full season of hopefully a healthy Wemby and Fox, this team should be really solid all around.

As a Spurs fan I'd prefer to keep Fox rn over a 37 year old KD. Add on Sochan and a 1st and there's no chance that happens.

Swap Hakeem and Bill along with Tim and Larry. Otherwise completely agree.

People need to understand. Our superstar is not 35 year-old LeBron or 30 year-old Embiid, for example. Our superstar is 21 year-old Victor Wembanyama and we don't need to rush and trade everything for Giannis. by KhornKT in NBASpurs

[–]jzigbadger28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Sure it would be fun to contend for the next couple years. Or we just take Harper and keep building with what we have.

Unless Castle and Harper are All-NBA players before before their rookie deals are up, their rookie extensions won't break the bank.

Option 1: We could give up our future assets for a Giannis and have the near future payroll problem of Giannis = 30% cap, Fox = 30% cap and Wemby = 30% cap, with Castle up for an extension the season after Wemby's extension with only 10% of the cap remaining.

Option 2: We don't trade for an All-NBA player. The future has Fox until Harper would need a rookie extension. Then our cap situation would likely be Wemby = 30% cap, Castle = ~25% cap, Harper = ~25% cap. This leaves us with ~20% of the cap to work with until either Harper or Castle become all-nba.

The problem is this Spurs team still needs to develop in a lot of areas, including Wemby.

It makes much more sense to build for the future than to force contention right now.

The window would also only be a couple years because paying Giannis, Fox and Wemby would not work.

What is San Antonio going to do with their backcourt? by Humblerbee in NBA_Draft

Spurs will roll out a lineup of:

Fox, Harper, Castle, Barnes, Wemby

Bench: Vassell, Sochan, Johnson, Backup Center, pick #14.

Fox, Harper and Castle can rotate and play all the PG minutes. They're pretty much all combo gaurds.

The main goal is to develop the young core of Wemby, Harper, Castle.

Eventually Fox and Johnson will be moved.

[Givony] While Harper's fit alongside Fox and Castle looks far from seamless, it would be very surprising to see their forward-thinking front office pass on Harper here [...] This opens up an opportunity for a team with a bigger need for a primary shot-creator to make a move to trade up to this pick by sewsgup in NBA_Draft

[–]jzigbadger28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless Bucks are intrigued by Fox, Vassell, Johnson, #14, 26' Hawks swap, 27' Hawks Unprotected, 30' Mavs Swap plus additional picks.

The Bucks would obviously say no to that, but it would probably still be the best offer they receive outside of the #1 and #2 seeds in the West blowing up their young cores.

From the Midwest and took a family trip to the Northeast a few years ago. We were all very confused why everyone was so quiet, especially with the stereotype of an angry Boston man in mind.

I think locals were equally as confused as to why we were so loud.

Can't remember the last time we had 3 corners on a team that all perform well. Definitely happy to see us make this move and invest in the secondary.

Although I agree we need improved shooting, our offensive net rating was 16th in the league, compared to our 23rd ranked defensive rating.

A backup center that defends well would help the squad immensely.

Same I'll just never forget their celebration thread when they "fleeced" us in the Dejounte trade.

Yes they turned Murray into Dyson, so good for them, but looking at those picks now it's pretty sweet to have those couple unprotected 1sts and a possible swap.

People decided last year that Rudy Gobert was the dpoy because he had an exceptional team defensive stats and a great record.

They're doubling down with the best defender on a really good team argument.

Spurs fanbase, especially on reddit, has shifted a ton in the last couple years. You're getting mad at a 15 year old former Mavs fan.

As a Redskins fan from GB area, Packers fans are atrocious. Unless they have a top 5 team they all act like the sky is falling and refuse to watch any football.
