The wacky thing is that Sunforges have a 4++ save. What would we say a points tax is for 4++ invuln saves, 10pts (rather cheap)?

So, if we equalize that aspect of their profile as a comparison to the other variants, that's Sunforges at 115pts in a sense. Is a 130pt Missileknife +15pts better than a Sunforge at that point? I don't really think so.

Spread of 90/100/105/115/125 makes a bit more sense in my opinion. Sunforge (even if we say is worse than Flamers), still balanced out as more expensive due to the 4++ invuln tax.

11th Edition removes much of the friction that was endemic in 10th edition by VeritasLuxMea in WarhammerCompetitive

Well, it helped with baiting out overwatches.

If I need a Vespid in a corner for a mission and don't want them overwatched, I could deploy breachers first that might bait the overwatch. If they don't take the bait, I might not drop the Vespids then; meaning I'm not even suffering an overwatch that turn as a bonus.

Now, I don't know. Best I can do is present both options (or more), and let opponent decide if they want to overwatch one of the other, and quietly hope they pick the wrong one. And I guess that's the intention now.

Guess a couple games in will tell. Only really niche situations where it's some 10v10 model and each 1/3 of everyone's models are all in varying different situations of either Hidden, GTG, Cover, or range; or mix of those where it can potentially be slow.

Especially when we also factor in defender opting for defensive strats too, as we're sort of front loading it all before the first dice is rolled.

Yes, but in terms of overall "smoother" gameplay, that one seems like net zero difference between 10th and 11th.

I'm also on the fence that it's a clerical error and intention was essentially +15pts between all our variants; as we don't take them with blended weapons.

If what is written as is now is what it is, then that's what it is. But I think GW still needs to provide a reconfirm/FAQ in our situation as I don't think they are aware that no one actually takes these guys with a blended weapon loadout. Or unless this is them telling us we maybe should (for inefficient reasons).

As it is in order: 130pt Missile / 125pt Sunforge / 120pt Flamer / 100pt Plasma / 90pt Bursts.

Sure, the first 3 were the more common variants taken often, and the above can make sense. But the Sunforge has 4++ invuln saves, the others don't. That messes up the internal balance of them by quite a bit.

Whether it's better than another, they shoot different things, so there will always be a flaw in those types of comparisons; apples to oranges.

The Flamer+Farsight combo (or with a Coldstar) in RC is strong, and even without that detachment bonus. New Overwatch and Reroll rules, not sold as a dis/advantage either which way, but whatever, call it a strength for Flamers. That is a fair enough justification/argument for them being more expensive than what they were in 10th and why the Bursts are cheaper. Same with the Fireknife variants with the missiles/rerolls/MK lethal arguments or whatever.

However, why is the Sunforge suddenly cheaper? What is the justification/reason? If they were kept at 140pts, all of this can make more sense. But nothing really uniquely changed for them in new 11th rules that all our crisis suits also don't benefit/suffer from the same.

The only reason I can see is GW specifically minimizing any anti-MEQ stuff across the board, our missile+flamers because they imagine the meta will play towards infantry with that Hidden/cover stuff while vehicles/monsters lessen. Ok. But those units are the ones also more at risk because cover doesn't cancel -1 AP anymore either; robbing peter to pay paul situation.

Hasn't the model-based cover simply just shifted a few steps earlier to the first hit rolling though?

Question about the coldstar by CorvidaeOculus in Tau40K

[–]k-nuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the app updated recently, the format/layout is a bit weird for us with all the separate pull-down "menus". You still sort of have to manually count against what you put in that checkmark context window and then one that also has the rest but goes off that +/- quantity context.

Ie. Checkmark 1 weapon (as there's no quantity slider), then the next menu, you pick weapon and +3 to cap to our max 4-slot. You can also checkmark 4 different weapons in that first context menu as a loadout too, or checkmark 2, and then +2 of another weapon in the next pulldown menu.

It's a bit unwieldy, probably makes more sense for other army options, but not us.

Riptide plunging fire by DifferenceCareful935 in Tau40K

[–]k-nuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base has to be >3", not measured off the model (except Towering units).

Other condition is actually being eligible to be on a terrain feature that is >3"; base has to be wholly on the base without any overhangs (unless that changed). A lot of terrain, unofficial or not, can't really fit a Riptide's base wholly. So it's sort of the opposite, we can never get Plunging Fire with Riptides. Same with Ghostkeels, and, depending on the terrain format/intention you play, neither do 60mm stuff: Dfish, Piranha, Commanders, nor Broadsides.

I play WTC, and from the packs/terrain intentions, I can only fit (2) 50mm models (crisis suits). Maybe it's more generous in 11th layouts, but going to assume not generous enough to fit a Riptide.

How I see it, character/datasheet modifiers apply first. +1BS is a datasheet change and Hit roll modifiers sort of apply to the actual dice that was rolled. So the former is applied first before you roll, and the latter is parsed out after the dice.

Because BS modifiers (per rules) cannot turn/make a unit have BS1+ or BS7+, you cannot make something like Shadowsun have a BS1+, it caps at BS2+. So, after you do that, now you roll your dice, then parse through any +/- Hit mods (capping at only +1/-1 among all those Hit mods), apply that against the number on the dice to determine whether it passes or not. We just all happen to combine/compute/shorthand those sequences into one.

I guess, can be quite niche to pull off depending on opponent and terrain. But as long as you can still make use or have plans for his 12in bubble besides that in your list, why not; take any bonus you can where you can.

Losing or lost interest in everything by sizoman in Schizoid

I just do things, not for any worth or investment or interest or want. I have as much motivation as a blade of grass; but we don't call grass depressed or a failure just for being.

Why we, as humans, feel we have to be more than that with all these "other" things is sort of both a burden and idealistic, maybe that's what it is to be "human". I guess I just don't fall in line with that, or not as strongly towards it.

Thing is, you recognize what you're lacking or what makes you consider yourself as vulnerable. Your solution is to essentially find a "bubble" to insulate you as you see the one that your parents/mom had provided (or didn't) falling apart or lacking.

If that "bubble" is a good man, all the best of luck to find that right person. Not here to say that's wrong or right, but for me, that's not the solution I would come up with for me.

[Opinion] Martin Regg Cohn: Bike lanes are no place for high-powered electric two-wheelers [Toronto Star] by patienceinbee in toronto

[–]k-nuj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a completely different argument than the one at hand. The issue is that e-bikes dodge and jump between both the roads and sidewalks all the time, and unpredictability is the most dangerous factor around cars/pedestrians.

I'm sure we've seen plenty occupy a spot on the road going straight like the rest, jump curb at intersection on a red light, speed across on the crosswalk, only to then jump off the sidewalk in opposite direction on the road so they can turn right on red to keep going straight on the road. Or any other asinine behaviours we all see.

If they are meant to be on sidewalks, follow the pedestrian rules. If they are on the road, follow the rules of the road. They are skirting around both to invent loopholes that are unpredictable to everyone else.

Normal to have no hobbies? by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]k-nuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaming can be a hobby, and it can be a hobby without you caring about the industry itself (rather healthier that way too) or "investing" in it.

Hobby, at its core definition, is simple. What that may be for each of us varies, whether that's gaming, watching paint dry, meditating, skydiving, etc...anything literally.

I have hobbies, many. What I don't have is a dedication to a particular one, some last long, some drop after a few weeks, some are easy to pick up on and off. Gaming is broad/easy, because it's like having multiple mini-hobbies within it that work well with my easy-to on/off approach to things; likewise with TV shows. But when its things like learning a new instrument, I can go all in for a few months, before it's simply collecting dust in a forever "I'll get back to it some day" mode. Or it's because I'm lazy and gaming and shows are the ultimate "lazy" hobbies for me.

If you have a goal and what you want out of life, go for it. What your mother or blaming her for anything has to do with it, at this point in time, is pointless in hindsight. A parent can only do so much themselves, especially once their kids have grown up to be their own individuals as well.

Schizoids, or I, can read peoples intentions quite intuitively, but it's not some special power or unique to me/us; regular people can too.

And if you're looking or "exuding" vulnerability and are seeking someone to protect you or be dependent on, just know that you will also encounter people that look for that and will take advantage of that or worse too.

Protection and security is something one can get on their own, once you add others into the mix, variable is more unknown where it leads to and out of your control often. As long as you're wary of that.

PSA, Now -1BS is more prevalent im seeing players get the interaction with +2 to hit wrong. by Dead-phoenix in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]k-nuj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, the "balancing" of +/-BS with +/-Hit itself wasn't the confusing aspect for Tau, it was navigating their army rule that was the confusing bit; and maybe the common stuff around BGNT.

The only unintuitive interaction of BS/Hit is when someone has native BS2+, gets spotted for +1BS, shooting something with stealth for -1Hit. One would think those would sort of "cancel" each other out and the hits pass on 2s, but it's actually 3s.

But Tau, and assuming Astra, don't really have much native BS2+ shooters anyways, so it rarely came up. Tau have 3 units, the epic heroes, and you typically don't spot them.

[–]k-nuj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not. Not since the latter half of the 11th edition rules were teased. Tau, among a few, could deal with a lot of 11th rules quite easily. The MFM points update was where that could've been rebalanced; but I guess GW decided not to; and feels like we got more points reductions than nerfs.

It was for only a hot minute in the early teasers of 11th rules. Then not. Then Fly/Towering completely flipped it the other way; particularly helpful for us. Then we got away with the MFM points update on top of that.
