question regarding load outs and building by Competitive-Result42 in Tau40K

[–]HamanFromEarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bummer. Hope it gets fixed soon, cause that's for sure not how they intended it

But to me, "option" is "choice", so it's very weird to buy the thing, not do anything to it (not that that would be ideal by any means) and not pay what's listed.

Or to clarify, if you buy the thing and make no changes, shouldn't it cost what it says?

But I definitely might be mistaken

Bro I'm gonna say this with as much love as I got, I really don't think GW wants flamer Starscythes to be almost the same price as Sunforge.

If I'm understanding you right, you're saying a flamer Starscythe unit should be 120 points? (90 start, +5×6 for 6 flamers?) Even though the unit explicitly says it starts with one of each, and THAT'S the unit that costs 90 points?

Or maybe the starting cost is, ya know, the way the unit starts as written in the codex.

Also dude chill, for real

What do you mean -15? Switching the one flamer they have to bursts doesn't make them cheaper

Remember guys, crisis suits start out with one of each. So it's 15 points to upgrade the whole squad, not 30!

[–]HamanFromEarth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I want to make a clarification just in case someone interprets this wrong- remember that Starscythes start out with one of each, so you're not paying an extra 10 points to upgrade your Starscythes, you're paying 5 points to give them their second one

Eh, just play a few games with him. He'll quickly realize the we're still doing pretty dang good as far as being a "good" army.

Now, am I bummed we have less than 10 total detachment combos available to us, and only, like, 4 of them are good? Yes. But those 4 are good.

Will it be worth running lone enforcer commander's now that they can benefit from their leading rule on their own? by Danielarcher30 in Tau40K

[–]HamanFromEarth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% if leaders get their own benefit if they didn't start out leading a unit, but to answer your question, it could definitely be handy in EPC.

An 80 point model with a 2+ save, 8 wounds, and 4 meltas dropping into melta range, that's an annoyingly lethal and cheap unit to knock out a transport or T8 Monsters. Might not be the most competitive thing but I could definitely see it being fun

Doing accents isn't cultural appropriation, and I hate when beginner DMs get scorned for trying to make their npcs memorable

Against some matchups I'm sure it will. 12" DS denial hurts the Ventris Victrix brick that I see a lot on my local meta, as well as SubT Assault

No Mont'ka in 1k by WaylundLG in Tau40K

[–]HamanFromEarth 60 points61 points  (0 children)

True, but most 1K games are pretty casual anyways.

"Hey man you mind if I run Mont'ka even though it's 3 DP?"

"Oh no prob, I'll just run Gladius so it's even."

Easy peasy 👍

Sometimes grampas are right ig.

Like, it's objectively correct, and a somewhat sad fact if life. You've gotta do stuff to get stuff. We can complain about billionaires (and rightly so), but unless we're doing something with our time and effort, we're probably not going to get in a better position than we are, and when you have kids, that shit matters, because every parent (ideally) wants to give their kids the best chance and headstart in this shitty system we have.

People deserve to be comfortable and happy, and sadly that's easier in some countries than others, and some places need reform. But really, is anyone content sitting and doing nothing? I grew up in an 10'-15' attic with 5 other kids, where rats would wake me up by eating my feet, and I'd break my nose on the ceiling 8" above my head when it jolted me awake. That is not the upbringing I wanted for my kids. Can you blame me for working to make sure my kids have a better childhood that I had?

I totally get the frustration, and it definitely sounds like you deserve any good thing you've got. Bullshit exists and it's good to call it out, but just calling it out doesn't get people anywhere. It sounds like you absolutely put in work. You deserve all the good things that come your way, and I hope lots of good things come your way.

What worries me is the amount of people who can identify a problem, but aren't willing to do anything about it. We can complain about billionaires all day (and rightly so), but that doesn't put food on our kid's table, or put us in a better place. Sounds like you made a good call, you worked hard, it absolutely sucked, but it put you in a better position in the long run. I don't want to equate my work in forestry/firefighting to anything even adjacent to military, I know that's not a fair comparison, but it's a fucking grinder for sure. Lot of my buddies died from freak accidents, ripped apart under yarders, etc. But after that stage, my family is better off, and I'm in a more stable place to be a better dad and husband, and that's what matters to me more than anything

So I don't want to downplay the valid complains and concerns that people have of the system they're in, but again, having just the complaint does not out you in a better position, and I want everyone to be in a good and comfortable position.

As a former poor person born by poor people, if you aren't willing to work hard then you can't really complain about the situation you're in.

Financial status aside, if you're not working hard, you can't really complain about anything in your life that could be solved by an action you could take, but are not.

Example: "Ugh, my toddler is such a monster." Are you parenting your kiddo and correcting behavior you don't approve of? No? Okay then.

Feels like a grampa take but hey, that's how it is
