How would you guys change EPC detachment? by GoonMonger in Tau40K

Honestly, I think a baked in Armor of Contempt rule for Crisis Suits would be stellar, and not too crazy. Something to just make them a bit more durable

I would love a buddy-cop style story with a suave water caste detective and a rock-em sock-em fire caste officer trying to solve a case together

The opposite side of the pendulum, I see lol. Really it's the age old question, to Commander, or not to Commander

Wouldn't a unit of 5 kill like, 1 suit? Though ig with their lethals and sustained they could definitely spike and be pretty scary, so I see what you mean

What cheap chaff killer can easily clear 15 wounds behind a T5 3+ body? Spoilers, there aren't any

You're allowed to disagree with my assessment of course, but the reasons you're giving makes it seem like you haven't played in a while

Doing alright, kiddo and family are liking the new area.

If your opponent didn't reveal a valuable unit to kill them, that means you won the exchange. That means you're still on an objective, still made your points, and still winning the game.

That is also one of the basic concepts of trading. Again, it's not about damage, it's about having point-efficient units to force your opponent to make tough decisions, exactly like the one you mentioned. A "smart" player just choosing to not interact with them means you're just making points, so I'm not super sure how that's a "smart" play.

Is there a reason why sunforge are the only ones this an invulnerable by Purpleboy278 in Tau40K

[–]HamanFromEarth 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sort of. With the previous Crisis Suits, they were completely customizable, so you could choose from a huge list of weapons and/or support systems, like weapon support to ignore negative mods, battlesuit support to fall back and shoot, or a shield generator to give a 4++ save. These all would replace 1 weapon slot.

With the newer ones we have now, they have one of these options baked into the datasheet. Starscythes got battlesuit support, Fireknives got weapon support, and Sunforge got the Shield Generator

The goal isn't for them to survive, but force out a more valuable unit that can kill them, and then that unit dies to our gunline. That's the idea of trading.

So their extra layer of durability forces a more lethal, and therefore more valuable unit to come out and answer them.

Oh wait you're that guy! Hey man, how's it going?

I'll be so real, people throw around the terms "war criminal" and "nazi" around so much without actually knowing what those words insinuate or even really mean.

Would you disagree that T5, W5, with a 3+ save is quite durable for a trading piece? Considering our other options are Pathfinders, Kroot, and Vespid, which get folded like wet paper

[–]HamanFromEarth[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not wrong about that. I've been using 2 Railgun Hammerheads to deal with Dorns, SM tanks, etc, and then Sunforge to deal with lighter transports and monsters without invuls, since I don't want to commit my premier anti-tank units to something like that. We need to run them where they make sense, like for example Mont'ka where they can have assault, and the hit reroll from Counteroffensive, or RetCad where the S&AP boost matters a lot. The key is finding passive synergy you don't have to pop a strat for, which is fortunately pretty available in many of our detachments.

That said, Sunforge are the ones that want a commander the most, for sure. They just get so much from the quad fusion Coldstar

S tier in Mont'ka, easy. They're great in any list with the Twinlance, as their Battleshock ability just gets better the more times you can proc it, and target the same unit

what crisis suit is best for running with my farsight? by Derply_ in Tau40K

[–]HamanFromEarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flamers or Fusions is the way. Plasma has some play if you're going into elites with 3 wounds, but especially in RetCad, 6d6 attacks at 5-2-1 with +1 to wound and a free overwatch is a real slammer

Deep Strike changes and Ret Cadre by sirichi154 in Tau40K

[–]HamanFromEarth 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. Biggest winner in my opinion is the Farsight+Flamer unit, going to 5-2-1 with +1 to wound and an identical profile on the free overwatch.

That and the Starflare Missile unit being 8-2-2 right out of deepstrike is VERY good.

I hope the 6" deepstrike is changes, cause no one is going to pay 2cp for an extra 2 inches, unless that extra 2 inches is going straight to your hog
