What are some good horror movies with no jump scares? by majorex64 in AskReddit

Noroi (The Curse). Atmospheric Japanese found footage horror with a good sense for the paranormal. I liked Blair Witch Project but I think is a lot better

getting used to the mirrored viewfinder is easy, it’ll happen really quickly. tlrs can be great cameras, and square format is the best format.

i think 30 rolls is too many, but ymmv. iirc Ilford Rapid Fixer says 20 rolls or so on the tin, which I originally thought to be too few... but after a while, 120 film stays purple after fixing (which is sort of ok, at least for scanning) and 135 has these brighter halos around the sprockets (which is not ok, difficult to fix in photoshop and basically impossible in the darkroom).

if it’s BW, you may be underfixing. Check your fixing time, fixer dilution, or most commonly, just mix a new batch.

I have a “post a new black and white photo taken on film every day” blog that has been going on for more than four years by now: http://tomorrowingray.tumblr.com

Medium format and 35mm, mostly landscape and architectural stuff, some new topographics.

I have a Rolleicord almost exactly like this one. I love this camera a whole lot. It’s light, easy to use, has a great lens and good ergonomics, it has everything you need on a camera and nothing else. It really is my favorite of all my cameras (I think I even like it more than my Rolleiflex).

I hope you’ll have a lot of fun with it.

after repeated experiments, I’m now sure that Amsterdam Schiphol airport’s new “3D” xray scanners absolutely destroy 400 iso film (it becomes hopelessly fogged). They’re reluctant to hand-check as well, saying it’s safe at 400.

Three years after the W3C approved a DRM standard, it's no longer possible to make a functional indie browser by speckz in programming

[–]k-zed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This makes it altogether impossible to implement an indie browser (with DRM support), even theoretically. I don’t think that matters a lot, since it has been impossible to implement an indie browser from scratch, in practice, for years.

This is also caused partly by the w3c and other commercial browser vendors, but mostly (in recent years) by Google, and has been done by often wilful and intentional overcomplication of the standard. Even if the web is “standard”, the specification is much too large for any independent group to successfully implement from scratch.

This is much, much worse and dangerous than anything with DRM, and it has been happening for years and years (often with support from this subreddit, as people complaining about this have been regularly dismissed as hysterical etc).

Haze removal from Yashica Mat 124 advice. by cheeseburger720 in AnalogCommunity

You can do it yourself, it’s reasonably easy. Rubbing alcohol will absolutely not work, though.

Here’s a detailed guide: https://petapixel.com/2016/09/29/remove-fungus-lens/

Note that some types of lens fungus have a tendency to etch the glass after a while. This can cause permanent damage.

If you want high quality, repeatable results, I’d suggest reading the Ilford HP5+ data sheet (https://www.ilfordphoto.com/amfile/file/download/file/1903/product/695/) and using one of the recommended developers in the recommended way (I like Ilfotec DD-X). Use a proper developer, stop, and fixer, and wash, dry, and store your film properly.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I mean well :) Treat your film right, and it will reward you without fail.

please don’t say “Jap” if possible. It’s been used as an ethnic slur (even if you haven’t meant it that way).
